We travelled between Olbia and Livorno…

We travelled between Olbia and Livorno on the Moby Fantasy which is a new boat, the service was great and the cabins were clean but we were hit by the €10 per megabyte for the Internet roaming charges which activated in the middle of the night at midnight on its own when we were asleep. There is free wifi but it disconnects after a while. We had roaming set on since we were in Italy but got hit with the charges once we lost signal from land.

Moby lines is terrible

Moby lines is terrible, i dont recommend. They say they have wifi, but it costs 5 euros. That would be completely fine if the wifi worked. The wifi was impossible to connect to, didnt work and when i tried to ask about it at the info point, staff didnt even let me finish my sentence and said “wifi not working”. When i tried to ask further they didnt let me speak and rudely ignored me. And the toilets were an absolute disaster. One stall had a broken lock, the other couldnt close, another one had a broken handle and the last one was the only one that worked. Terrible experience, corsica ferries is much better.

Perfect trip

Maybe we were lucky given so many negative reviews, but the return trip Genoa - Bastia was perfect. A huge ferry, loads of space where to sit, beautiful large deck, plenty of restaurants, clean bathrooms. I liked everything about it. The departure was on time too. Were didn't have a vehicle, so the boarding was very easy. Would definitely use this company again.
Bravi, complimenti!

We have payed for tickets online on mobylines.nl

I bought tickets for the ferry from Livorno to Bastia with Moby lines. Payment has been confirmed, but we haven’t received any tickets…. I have requested 3 times to send the tickets (or again). Because customer support is telling me that they have send the tickets. We have received directly the payment confirmation, or complaint confirmation. But not the tickets.... Off course we have checked every email folder. Nothing received... I have tried to call, but the support Desk is Italiano only and the menu is horrible. Nobody is helping out. The only answer we receive is that tickets have been sent...

Our ferry Livorno- Bastia was cancelled 16 hours before departure without any alternative same or next days - reason weather. However, the Moby ferry Livorno - Olbia was going. We were already 650 km down south and had to cancel our arrangements on Corsica. No money back yet from Moby. Never again.

Severe security flaws!

During my last crossing from Olbia to Genoa on the Moby ferry “Ale Due”, I had some very unpleasant experiences which, in my opinion, show that the security concept currently practiced by “Porto di Olbia” leads, on the one hand, to completely absurd reactions by security personnel and, on the other hand, to serious and very grave security breaches. For this reason, I will no longer use the ferries departing from there and can only recommend that other users do the same.
I had booked a crossing with my motorcycle and arrived at the terminal two hours before the ship's departure time, as requested. After passing through security with my motorcycle, I was first in line in the vehicle queue for motorcycles. At security, only my ID card and ferry ticket were checked. I did not observe any other ferry passengers undergoing more thorough checks. No one had to open their luggage. The interior or trunk of cars was not checked in any case.
As boarding was delayed, I asked the security staff where I could find a toilet. They directed me to the Porto di Olbia building. When I returned, the security staff sent me back into the building, even though I had already been checked, and asked me to be checked again. I was not aware that there were security checks in this building at all. Apparently, these are for ferry passengers who are traveling without a vehicle. These checks are similar to security checks at airports, where a metal detector is used and the contents of luggage are examined with an X-ray machine. There are no such strict security checks for ferry passengers who use the ferry with a vehicle. During this check, a pocket knife that I was carrying in my pants pocket, as is not unusual when camping with a motorcycle, was declared a “weapon.” The blade of the knife was shorter than 6 cm. I was then quickly surrounded by several security guards, who were all very nervous. One employee put her hand on the handle of her gun. I was then accused of illegally carrying a weapon. I was also accused of wearing pants with the protectors and metal buckles that are standard for motorcycling. Wearing such protective gear is mandatory in all EU countries when riding a motorcycle. I tried to point out these circumstances, using the English language, which is customary in such situations. Apparently, the security personnel did not have a sufficient command of this language. I was then taken to a bus parked in front of the building. I didn't know what would happen next or where this bus would take me. On the bus, I was again surrounded by several employees. It was obvious that I was being treated like a criminal. The bus then drove the few meters to the ferry. There, in front of the other waiting passengers and the ferry staff, I was escorted under guard—including an employee who kept her hand on the handle of her gun—to a room on the ship where my pocket knife was handed over to a member of the ship's crew. After that, the ordeal was suddenly over and I was allowed to return to my motorcycle.
This reaction by the security personnel was completely disproportionate. In my opinion, employees who obviously suffer from insignificance were trying to show off their enormous importance. However, it also became apparent that the security concept of the “Porto di Olbia” suffers from serious shortcomings: while ferry passengers traveling without vehicles are subject to extremely strict checks, as is the case with air travel, ferry passengers traveling with vehicles are not subject to any security checks whatsoever. Vehicles are also not checked for weapons or explosives. There also appear to be no detectors for dangerous substances that may be in the vehicles. It is therefore very easy to bring a suitably prepared vehicle onto a ferry and use it to carry out an attack. Unlike on an airplane, the perpetrators could even leave the ship again beforehand. It would also be very easy to smuggle weapons into the vehicles and then take hostages, as the vehicle decks are accessible to ferry passengers during the journey. Against the backdrop of Middle Eastern organizations announcing that they will shift their fight to Europe, or the increasing number of cases of hybrid warfare in recent times, I believe it is grossly negligent to accept such security gaps in ferry operations. There are between 2,000 and 3,000 passengers on a ferry. Taking so many people hostage would lead to significant security problems. In my opinion, the extremely strict controls on ferry passengers without vehicles are being misused to distract attention from the virtually non-existent security checks on ferry passengers with vehicles. This is possibly because effective security checks on vehicles involve considerable costs.

Bed bugs

I had a good time with the ferry from Genova to Sardegna. Stuff was old in the room/bathroom, but worked. Left almost punctually - only 10 min late. Meals are expensive and not good quality, but it all worked fine and staff was friendly. On the way back though, ferry left punctually. Which was good. But theeeen, our room 5409 at the ferry that left Sardegna at 21:30h on 21.09.25 back to Genova had bed bugs and I am left with lots of red dots all over my body and had to change sheets and wash literally EVERYTHING at home.

Terrible

We booked a ferry from Porto Torres to Genova at the cost of €387, car included.
The tickets stated that we had to be at check-in minimum 1,5 hrs before. We had all day in Porto Torres and walked by the terminal to check. The person at the desk stayed that the earliest we could be at the docks was 1,5 hrs before... Why would someone want us to be late for check in???
After queuing up for one hour before we finally embarked we where put as the car closest to the exit of level 2. This resulted in some beautiful scratches and a dent in the bonnet. Hopefully the rental company won't notice them...
The cabin had not been cleaned for many days. There was literally dust bunnies on the bed and the floor. Don't get me started on the shower...
We complained and got a new cabin, no questions asked. One could almost believe they had experienced this before...
The new cabin was "better", but we stikk chose not shower on board.
The boats are close to 40 y.o.
Just pray there won't be an accident, it would not turn out great.
Never again.

bad, worse, moby.

it's not the first time i travel with moby but this time was shocking. dirty rooms, i chose one for me and my dog but they gave me a normal carpet cabine instead of a pet cabine. the toilet was ugly and dirty. used toilet paper. bad organisation and kicking you out of the cabine 2h before arrival. just very very sad and unfriendly employees. everyone should get an education course.

Fly and rent a car.

The ferry itself is old and outdated. Cabins smell, bad. I changed many times. Mattresses are from 1970s, bathrooms are disgraceful and old. Food in restaurants was not hot, pasta in Italy! Terrible. No ventilation throughout boat, bad air everywhere. On arrival they announce arrival 2 hours in advance so you have to wait around or spend money in restaurant. Low class would be a compliment. You can see the culture of the company in general by how the staff treat customers. Generally a terrible experience.

Ferry was a no-show

Moby lines cancelled our ferry the night before departure, and has been uncontactable since. No information or alternatives were given, and I'm still trying to work out how to get a refund.

If your trip is important, I would *really* recommend looking at alternative ferry lines, as Moby is unreliable.

No refund no compensation, charging extra money

I booked in advance the return crossing for 3ppl from St.Teresa, Sardinia to Corsica for 08/09/2024. The ferry was cancelled just couple hours before the departure due to a broken boat. They said I could go with Ichnusa Line on the same tickets, but they didn't accept us. I asked for the refund and they delayed it and they charged me the extra cost of the bank transfer. Also they decline the compensation, which is given by the law. I complained about it. Moby Lines has not responded so far...

Be aware of different ships.

Before booking a round-trip from Genua to Olbia, we read reviews about different ferries. Most of them were bad, but we thought “let’s try it”, and booked one regardless. We chose Moby hoping it wouldn’t be that bad. From Genua to Olbia we traveled with the ship ''Moby Aki”. It was not a great experience but regarding cleanliness OK. Don't go to the restaurant, the service and food were bad. Our food wasn’t properly heated and had basically no taste.

For the return journey, we had the displeasure to experience “Moby Tommy”. Absolutely avoid this ship! As we entered the cabin, we were greeted by a horrific stench originating from the toilet—it had not been flushed. Even after having corrected this mistake ourselves, the stench never left the cabin for the remainder of the journey. Overall, the cabin was very dirty: not vacuumed floor, hair in the bathroom, dirty toilet, toothpaste stains, etc. The cabin hadn’t been properly cleaned in a long time, possibly ever. It felt close to a bio-hazard.

We briefly considered using the public toilets on the ship instead, but changed our minds after visiting one. We quickly realized our cabin reflected the condition of the entire ship.

Not on time and no customer service

The company wants you to be at the terminal in Bastia two hours before the departure. We arrived at 12:00 and we have been waiting ever since. Now it is 14:20 and counting.
Just to be clear, you wait outside in the hot weather not in the terminal with access to water.
No one bother to give us any information.
Don't make a reservation with this company.
