Although I like Grand Frais in Bergerac their meat products are horrible. If I buy prepackaged lamb or chicken or beef there is always skin or gristle or fat hiding underneath what appears to be a good cut of meat. It is a very sneaky and dishonest practice.
I shall buy meat elsewhere.

This Grand Frais is one of a kind. You will first notice that the parking is catered for Smart For 2, the small Fiat 500, the Panda or a convertible. If both sides are already occupied by other vehicles, you will have a really hard time to get out of your car. Second advice, try not to go into this shop on a Friday, Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, the waiting time is so long and that you can only queue up on the extreme right or left side, in effect, the shelves block access to all other tills. Third advice, check the price especially fruits and veggies with a lot of varietes, like strawberries and tomatoes. I was charged 5.99 euros for a panier of 500g Magnum strawberries instead of 3.99 (7.98 euros for 1 kg in big cardboard). As this shop has no loyalty card, and for environmental reasons, you will be asked if you want a receipt. My advice is to always keep the receipt, because if you are overcharged or sold rotten products, you can go back and ask for a refund, without a receipt, you will contribute to their annual turnover without getting anything back. Not the minimum of politeness either from the staff, don't expect a sorry. There is indeed a wider choice of everything than hypermarkets and the prices reflect this, especially more exotic produce. Finally, what you need to know is this shop, similar to a famous American internet outlet, uses different tactics to discourage the setting-up of a trade union.

Very silly negative review from uppity woman who objected to showing her shopping bag to the cashier. This is common practice in this chain - also in ‘Fresh’ which is a very similar shop. The French are not as bolshy as Brits about this sort of thing!
Superb quality and variety of food plus not always more expensive than supermarkets. Wish there was Fresh or Grande Frais in UK.

Brilliant quality and super fresh. Real pride shown in displays. Not an obvious big bulk buy store, not huge piles of cans etc but worth taking the time to plan and cook with.
Store near lac Passy. Loved it.

The diversity of products is impressive. It also provide fresh products from local producers in the region. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and choice.
Also (but I speak for the one I know in the center of France), employees are very helpful and welcoming.
