Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 175 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about massive, unexpected price increases that far exceeded the low initial estimates given over the phone. Many local people experienced unprofessional behavior from workers who demanded immediate payment on site. Some reviewers were not happy with ongoing communication issues, noting that phone calls were completely ignored and reaching a human after the service proved extremely difficult. Consumers also pointed out that emergency repairs were sometimes rushed, leaving behind poor workmanship or unfinished tasks while remaining vastly overpriced for the short time spent.

KEEP AWAY!

Thieves, scoundrels, bastards. Don’t use these criminals. They pray on old & single ladies in distress. Charged over £550 for a £20 lock which does not work. They broke the door and do not answer the phone. Wankers!

⚠️ Please be very careful before using…

⚠️ FRAUDULENT Please be very careful before using this locksmith

I am writing this review because I don't want anyone else, particularly an older or vulnerable person, to find themselves in the same situation as my mother.

On 26 August 2026, my mother contacted Locksmith London Ltd using the telephone number 0330 058 2995.

She says she was quoted £50 for the locksmith service. After the work was carried out, she was charged £690 by debit card.

The receipt states:

Locksmith London Ltd
Company no: 15755174
VAT no: GB501204071
Invoice no: 24473

The work on the receipt is described simply as “Supply new back set and supply new system locking.”

My mother did not expect to pay £690 based on the original £50 quotation. We have contacted her bank to dispute the payment, but they have currently declined to assist because she does not have a recording or written evidence of the original £50 quotation.

I am posting this so people are aware of the very large difference between the quoted price and the amount ultimately charged and so that anyone considering using this service checks the price carefully and gets the total cost in writing before allowing work to begin.

I would also encourage anyone who has had a similar experience involving 0330 058 2995 to keep all invoices, receipts, advertisements, telephone records and messages and report concerns to the appropriate authorities.

Please be careful and get a clear written, all-inclusive price before agreeing to locksmith work.

Absolute fraudulent rip off.

Outrageously expensive for a simple job. The price kept going up and up. I was given a reasonable quote for a lock change initially. I didn't do my research on a Friday teatime. The cost for an inferior replacement lock was enormous but it was getting dark and I needed my front door to lock. I paid the bill because as a lone female, i felt concerned. A complete rip off to the extreme. I hope somebody does the same to this person's grandmother. I researched today and saw 'rogue Trader' about this company. EVIL

done the job but ridiculously expansive

i can’t say the service was bad as all was fixed as promised . probably my fault of not triple checking what will be the total price for work
the guy done his job, all works well.
but CHECK THE QUOTE before beginning of work and if it’s a few options just realise it will be the more expensive option at the end.

Extremely unhappy with my experience…

Extremely unhappy with my experience and the way my complaint has been handled. This review is to warn others that this company is a total scam, I personally wouldn’t even give one star.

I contacted this company for an emergency locksmith call-out and was subsequently charged a total of £846, broken down as follows:

• £400 – lock mechanism
• £125 – new lock/cylinder
• £180 – labour

I formally complained about the charges and raised concerns about the amount being charged, particularly in relation to the parts supplied and the overall cost of the work.

Rather than properly addressing the concerns raised in my complaint, the response I received essentially dismissed my concerns by repeatedly referring to the fact that the service was an “out-of-hours emergency” and that the invoice had been signed. They have maintained that the charges are justified without, in my view, adequately explaining how such substantial individual charges were arrived at.

I find the whole experience extremely disappointing. What was already a stressful situation was made considerably worse by the level of the bill and, subsequently, by the way my formal complaint was handled.

I do not feel that my concerns have been properly addressed, and I am now taking the matter further through the appropriate channels.

My advice to anyone using an emergency locksmith service is to insist on a clear, written breakdown of the full cost before agreeing to any work, including the cost of parts, labour and any out-of-hours charges. Do not assume that signing an invoice means you cannot subsequently question whether the charges were fair or properly disclosed.

A very disappointing experience from start to finish.

Advertise low prices just to get through the door. Charged extortionate amount just to open stuck door. Quoted £700 for a job that was subsequently completed by a local locksmith for £250!
DO NOT USE this company.

Extremely awful company

Extremely poor workmanship, customer service, and communication.

General Services Ltd replaced a lock at my property towards the end of last year at a cost of almost £500. The replacement lock failed only a few months later.

I contacted the company to ask them to inspect and rectify the issue. On two separate occasions, I was told that a technician would contact me, but I received no calls or emails. I provided my contact number and availability and made several attempts to arrange access, but the issue remains unresolved.

I have now reached the point where I will need to pay another contractor to rectify the work.

Based on my experience, I would not choose General Services Ltd to carry out work at my property again. The initial work may have been completed, but a repair was needed soon after. My experience of the company has been extremely disappointing.

void at all costs – Grossly overcharged

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this company.

They attended a tenanted property for us in mid-July 2026 to replace a standard night latch. I was later charged an astonishing £406 for a lock that costs around £32 from Screwfix.

Before the work was carried out, I was quoted £49 for labour and £29 for the lock, which I agreed to over the phone. At the time, I was away and had no practical alternative because the property was tenanted and the issue needed resolving urgently.

Receiving an invoice for over £400 after being quoted significantly less is completely unacceptable. In my opinion, this felt like taking advantage of a customer who had no realistic option but to proceed due to the urgent circumstances.

I would strongly advise anyone using this company to insist on a written quotation before any work begins and to carefully check the final invoice. Based on my experience, I would not use their services again or recommend them to others.

I fell for the scam

I fell for the scam, it said £49 and you would be quoted on the cost of repairs. The engineer was quick to come out. Didn’t give me any estimated repair costs. He tightened the hinges and proceeded to make the invoice. An additional amount was added for vat making the full quantity £148.8 for a job that took about ten minutes. When I asked about the guarantee he said it’s for 6mths. I was away and just noticed on the inside of the door frame it’s split away from the wall. Called them and was received with complete defensiveness and denial. I was also questioned why I called a week later and both the engineer and office wouldn’t hear about the issue. The door frame was fine prior to the call out, and the issue I have now is surprisingly on the edge that was worked on. Complete scammers and over chargers. Please don’t be fooled or get caught!

I would not recommend this company.

I would not recommend this company.

I called at around 10:30 am after accidentally locking myself out. I was told an engineer would arrive within 30 minutes. After waiting for an hour, I called again and was told 20 more minutes. Then it became 15 minutes, then 10 minutes. In the end, the engineer didn’t arrive until around 1:00 pm.

During the initial phone call, I was quoted £50 + VAT for the service, and I agreed based on that price. However, when the engineer arrived, I was told the actual charge would be £89 + VAT if the door could be opened with plastic, or £124 + VAT if drilling was required. At that point, I had already been waiting for hours and had little choice but to accept the new price.

The engineer did open the door without causing any damage, but I feel the quoted price and the actual price were completely different, and the promised arrival time was also not respected.

Be very careful. I would not rely on this company for either the quoted price or the estimated arrival time. Make sure you get the full price in writing before agreeing to any work.

Appalling Service

Absolutely appalling service, quoted £40 to remove a broken key. Unable to remove it so had to break the lock, Unable to remove lock unit, did remove in the end and said to temporarily fit it was £264, and to get a new unit the cost would be nearly £500, what a joke but I had to reluctantly take the temporary repair begrudgingly. By this time I realised it was a SCAM, the East European locksmith, if you can call him that was clueless so I decided enough was enough knowing that any more work done by them would lead to a ridiculous end cost. So, I got an approved locksmith in who rectified his error, fitted me a good quality lock, the temporary one he fitted was cheap poor quality unit. The cost for this was £240, she said she could have done the complete job for this price, and had come across these scammers time and time again in the Leicestershire area. A lesson learnt, don't use cowboys/conmen which these are. Also, also a company called Kareb Locksmiths that are a Coalville based 'front' company located in an office.
