2025 Completely already dead in 2026

I purchased a BYD and two days later it died. No dashboard, no lights, no locks, completely dead. BYD said it was covered under warranty and that I get four free tows . First, they said they would call and let me know when they were coming to tow the car. No one called but the next day they said they sent someone but that I didn't answer the door; which is a lie because we were here all day with the door open and maintenance crew working on our house. Then they said it would cost me $50 to get the tow truck because it died in my driveway and not on the street. Then they said they could not test the 12 V battery before they towed it to the dealership because it would nullify the warranty. I can't wait to find out what other BS they are going to try to pull now that they are holding my car hostage at the dealership in Cancun.

Aftersale

Great cars, until something goes wrong and then buyer beware. To put things into context I’ve spent 20 years + in the motor industry working for Audi, BMW and JLR, all of which have had their problems but BYD is on another level.

Car developed a problem, called up AA came out car had to be recovered. STRAIGHT FORWARD SO FAR.

Trying to get in touch with the people to sort the loan car out, BECAUSE ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO IT, is a NIGHTMARE.

When you do get finally through you need to agree to their terms and conditions here’s a small selection as follows. By the way they use THRIFTY.

1, £350 excess on insurance with a £35 per day extra charge (that is not to reduce the excess)
2, 70 mile daily limit, if you go over this then the car hire company THIRFTY, don’t charge you an excess mileage charge. What they do is put you on a list (DNR:- Do Not Rent). Which means you will no longer be eligible for a loan car in future, if your car develops another problem.
3, £1 + charge per KW if it’s an electric car
4, 30% charge over current fuel prices if you don’t replace the fuel.
5, Drivers licence AND A UTILITY BILL when they drop the car off.

Believe it or not this is the short version. I have spent so far 2 days and unlimited phone calls and still no further on.

I have honestly never had or witnessed such poor customer service in all my time in the motor trade. It’s embarrassing, and the way you are made to feel because you question a question is outrageous.

HONESTLY, the after sale when something goes wrong is just disgraceful

Will never buy a BYD

The BYD instore experience was very underwhelming, sales people were not interested that we want to buy a car. The car interior felt cheap plastic like a happy meal toy, with a small tablet slapped on the middle. As little EV feel as possible, nothing modern about the car.

And now they're actively hiring Peter Szijjarto, the Hungarian nation's traitor, the fallen politician, the accused spy, who actively helped BYD establish a bigger foothold in Hungary. They're actually giving him a political lifeboat for his well known corruption. NO THANKS BYD.

Absolute worst customer service

The car is fantastic but the customer service is nil. It is a week tomorrow since we collected and we cannot get access to the app. Cannot get any contact or service. Won't survive in this country without better customer service.

Above & Beyond

I have just received my new BYD Motability car, From the Rugby site (Old Suzuki showroom) it looks amazing, I cannot wait to drive it. I cannot thank Ash enough for the great service and going above and beyond for me, after a very stressful day. Ash has looked after me from day one when I received my first Suzuki Vitara and now I am looking forward to a whole new experience, and knowing Ash is right there if I need help. If you need a motability car, this is the place to go, you won't be dissapointed at all. Ash makes it all so easy, he has many years experience (he is not that old) there is nothing that Ash doesn't know and if he doesn't he will find out for you. Ash isn't just a salesman, he actually cares about his customers, you are not just a number or a commision cheque. I cannot fault the customer service, the staff are amazing. Thank you... Am looking to the future with BYD.

I contacted the BYD support centre…

I contacted the BYD support centre because my car was unable to complete any software updates, which was affecting the speedometer and preventing me from using the app. Despite raising the issue, the software did not update and I never received a call back.

I then visited Alan Day BYD, where I was told someone would contact me — which they eventually did. The advisor, Ben, informed me that the update would cost £95 and that I would need to leave my car at the garage for the entire day. I explained that the contact centre had told me I could simply pop in and have the update completed immediately, but he insisted this was the process.

I asked Ben to call me back in an hour as I had a meeting, but I received no call. When I tried calling back, I was routed to the overflow contact centre and still did not receive any follow‑up. This all took place on 30 June 2026.

I have chased the issue again today and may have finally managed to resolve it, but the lack of communication and conflicting information made the experience unnecessarily frustrating. the service all round by BYD in Alan Day is poor. Ben requires customer service training and needs to ensure he understands the customers needs.

I walked into the showroom and noticed the female sales member texting on her mobile phone. Very poor professionalism

I walked into the showroom and could instantly see one of the female advisors on her mobile phone. Texting and making very little eye contact. Mobile phones being overtly used in a sales environment sets a very low standard, and shows lack of interest.
There were other potential customers in the showroom just looking around. This particular female (ginger or chestnut coloured hair) then looked up from her texting to say “you ok?” Then went back to her texting.
What ever happened to the physical greeting and customer interaction. This was going to be my first time with BYD Chester, but initial observation with this member of the sales team, did not fill me with any confidence that she would not be checking her mobile phone every 2 minutes.
Unfortunately, mobile phones are now taking over everyone’s lives. I had all intentions of moving to an electric vehicle…..so off to TESLA.

I received very good customer service from Kamil at BYD Maidstone. Professional, friendly and very helpful even though I stated at the beginning that I was a fleet buyer and he would therefore not have a potential sale.

I placed an order for a BYD Sealion 7…

I placed an order for a BYD Sealion 7 with BYD Haberfield on 13 June 2026 and paid the required deposit at the time of purchase. I was advised by the salesperson that the vehicle would be available within two weeks, which was a key factor in my decision to proceed.
After receiving no updates for a week, I contacted the dealership to follow up, only to be informed that there was no vehicle available for me at all. This was both surprising and disappointing, given the assurances provided at the time of sale.
In addition, my attempts to obtain clear and accurate information were unsuccessful. The salesperson handling my order provided inconsistent and incorrect information, and I was unable to escalate the matter, as requests to speak with a manager or another representative were not accommodated.
This experience reflects a lack of transparency and professionalism in the sales process. At a minimum, customers should be given accurate information regarding vehicle availability and realistic delivery timeframes before being asked to commit financially.
I would appreciate urgent clarification on:

Whether my order has been allocated a vehicle (VIN)
Which shipment (if any) my order is assigned to
A realistic and reliable delivery timeframe

I hope BYD Haberfield will address this matter promptly and improve communication standards for future customers.

I purchased a brand new BYD Atto 3 from…

I purchased a brand new BYD Atto 3 from the Arnold Clark Linwood branch, and it has been an absolute nightmare from roughly the one-year mark onwards. What should have been a reliable electric car has turned into a money pit of frustration, endless garage visits, and total incompetence from their so-called service department.
After about a year, the car developed a persistent knocking noise. Since then, Arnold Clark has thrown multiple failed repairs at it: three drive shafts, a steering column, brake pads, discs, and calipers. They initially tried to charge me over £1,500 for the brakes before eventually doing them under warranty. None of it fixed the issue. The fault remains exactly as before.
Over the three years I've owned this car, it has spent approximately 50% of that time sitting in their garage. I've had four different courtesy cars, the latest one since August 2025. They've repeatedly told me the car was "fixed," only for me to test drive it and have to hand it straight back because the knocking was still there. Countless wasted hours driving back and forth to Linwood.
When I specifically asked for an electric courtesy car (you know, to match the car I actually bought), they kept palming me off with petrol Corsas and similar. The fault was eventually confirmed by a BYD technician — I had to make the trip to the garage myself for that test drive, after Arnold Clark's negligent mechanics had yet again claimed it was sorted.
The latest genius idea from their mechanical department? Fitting a pedal box. How on earth they think that will fix a knocking noise coming from the opposite end of the vehicle is beyond any rational person. It just shows how clueless they are.
On top of all this, I've received zero compensation for the massive depreciation and lost value while they've had my car for months on end. I can't even sell it now because of the known unresolved fault. I've lost thousands in potential value, time, and pure stress.
Do not buy from Arnold Clark. Save yourself the thousands of pounds, the endless wasted trips, the lies about repairs being completed, and the total lack of accountability. Their service is shocking, their mechanics appear incompetent, and they clearly don't stand by the vehicles they sell. This experience has been one of the worst I've ever had with any car dealership. Absolute disgrace.
Steer well clear

Excellent Service from Ross Turner at Marshals BYD Northampton

We recently purchased a BYD Seal from BYD Northampton, and the service we received from Ross was outstanding from start to finish.

Ross guided us through every stage of the process, from introducing us to the different vehicle options and arranging the test drive, through to completing all the paperwork and keeping us informed throughout. His communication was excellent, and he was always available to answer any questions.

On the day of collection, Ross went above and beyond, taking the time to thoroughly explain the car’s features, user functions, and after-sales support. He was professional, knowledgeable, personable, and genuinely committed to ensuring we had a great experience.

The level of customer service we received was exceptional, and we would highly recommend Ross and the team at BYD Northampton to anyone considering purchasing a vehicle.

Should be good but after sales shocking.

Enjoy the car overall but a weird noise from one wheel. Told it was the brakes not being used (but why only one wheel) told to spend £900 on new discs and pads when they had zero wear. After sales none existent. Customer service not replying to emails after they said they would investigate months ago. Car makes a noise all the time on one side pretty shocking for a 30k car and people ask me why and I tell them! would consider other brands now given the poor experience.

Car Great - After Sales - Rubbish

I purchased my BYD Seal U DM-i in June 2025. Great car, very technical, very comfortable. That's the good news.
Two weeks after purchase, the Franchise dealer, who was based 8 miles away but whose main garage was 26 miles away, closed. So any repairs/service were then in London, 28 miles away.
So I chose another town which was easier to get to but 32 miles away. There I had a Dash Cam fitted (Dealer was very good).
Service was due this June so I asked if they can register me for the service. They said 'Yes' but of course I received NO reminder but by this time I found another BYD dealer had opened in yet another town, just 24 miles away.
Service done (again Dealer very good) but I had no 'Service Book'. The garage said 'No worries, when you find it bring it in'. I then read on the internet that there is NO service book and it's held electronically (somewhere).
I have tried to contact BYD UK and many other dealers to find out where my Service Record is held. Also has any other work I have had done, i.e Dash Cam (fitted by BYD) been noted so it does not affect any Warranty issues?
Either the Staff at BYD do not have a clue about the vehicle and system or they do not have a clue about 'Customer Service'. (or BOTH)
I bet this is not the way Customers are treated in China. So wake up BYD UK and learn what 'Customer Service' actually is and reply to peoples emails and contacts and do not ignore them or you may just find 'Customers' will go elsewhere and you will be wondering why you are out of a job (because you would be too stupid to realize it is YOUR fault).
Final line. A new BYD franchise has opened closer to me (9 miles away) but no communication from BYD about any of these 'updates'. and it's not on their 'Service Maps'.
BYD UK just does NOT care about you, they just want YOUR money. Shame, such a fantastic car too.

I have a very bad experience after…

I have a very bad experience after sales service. I bought my BYD in Australia Melbourne Nunawading. During the purchase, the dealership is providing a few complimentary accessories, however I did not receive those accessories during handover. The Sales Manager James Zhang mentioned that the dealership will update me once they have the stock. however, after 3-4 weeks of waiting I did not hear any update either from the Sales person or the Sales Manager himself. I would need to call, email and even went to the dealer to get my update.

I managed to have a chat with the Sales Manager about the accessories which they promise me, but seems once they have sold the car to you, the Sales Manager did not really care about our issue, thus this is such a disappointing experience I had with big company. I can understand if the BYD only a 1 dollar company, but this company is worth billion dollar.

This is a very disappointing experience I have with such a very big company such as BYD. BYD is a billion dollar company I would expect the professionalism and a very high standard service. I definitely would not recommend to purchase BYD product to anyone as their service is really really disappointing.

The vehicle itself is not very special. it function as it meant to be. I really regret that I have purchased this brand, should have been gone to other brand.

BYD Seal Hybrid Wagon Rental

Rented, did not buy, a BYD Seal Hybrid Wagon in Italy. First experience with a BYD of any kind. Car was attractively designed and really smooth driving on the flats and towns of Tuscany. Enjoyed the feel and it accelerated nicely. When I hit the hills was when it lost acceleration and the poor little engine started to make noise. First time I heard it I actually looked in my side view to find the vespa I was hearing. For a longer drive (a few hours) the seats were incredibly uncomfortable. And the absolute worst feature was the driver correction system. It was constantly beeping and booping at us. Over-sensitive lane correction, inaccurate speed warnings, and our favorite, the rather constant coffee warning. We covered the driver monitoring cam, which helped a good bit, but I would never buy a car that beeped at me that much.
