Damaged suitcase: almost 4 weeks, 6 contacts, no decision

On 26 September 2026 I flew TUI fly TB1551 from Brussels to Las Palmas. My checked suitcase arrived damaged, and I reported it at the airport the same day (Property Irregularity Report).

Since then I have done everything TUI asked. I opened a case with their baggage handler Dolfi1920, who told me on 12 October that it had been passed to TUI. I filled in TUI's damage form on 13 October and filed a complaint on 17 October, but my replies to that ticket bounce. On 20 October I wrote to them on Facebook, sent a formal complaint by email and used the complaint form on their website.

Almost four weeks later, nobody has given me a decision. Under the Montreal Convention the airline is liable for damage to checked baggage. I'm asking for €110 paid by bank transfer, not a voucher.

The flight itself was fine; the after-sales service has not been. I will update this review once the claim is settled.

A ticket-buying trap

In reality, TUI is one of the most inconvenient airlines!
First, you have to consider hand luggage size when buying your ticket; there are two options: the basic fare includes a small carry-on for free, while a large carry-on costs 22 euros. You might think you could simply choose the small carry-on when booking months in advance and then add the large carry-on or checked baggage a few days before the flight. However, a large carry-on can only be booked at the time of ticket purchase; later on, you can only add checked baggage, which costs twice as much! This feels underhanded and is clearly just an attempt to squeeze more money out of customers.
Second, it is 2026, yet TUI still hasn't managed to implement electronic boarding passes for flights to Egypt for passengers traveling without checked luggage! You have to arrive at the airport early and stand in a huge line just to get a boarding pass! This wastes my time as well as the time of passengers with checked luggage, who are also forced to spend extra time waiting in that same line.
I fly frequently, and the issues mentioned above are not typical of other airlines.

Do not fly DELUXE - waste of money

The departure flight was fine with a decent meal and nice service. The return flight was a disaster. The food "had not arrived" and they gave us some very cheap bubbly wine and a heated up dish from their menu (7.50 euros). Uneatable! No apologies, no compensation offered. Tuifly seem to think they can get away with it, even though they have clearly not offered what you paid for.
So do NOT book fly DELUXE. Any excuse will be used to rip you off.

Three Hours Early, Almost Missed the Flight

Our experience with TUI was disastrous. We were at Rhodes Airport three hours in advance, yet almost late for our flight. The reason? Baggage check-in was chaotic and inefficient. Two scheduled check-in desks were closed. Every three rows you managed to move forward, they let another flight go ahead of you (first the Düsseldorf flight, then the Stuttgart one). On top of that, they let VIP passengers cut ahead from time to time. And as if that weren't enough, they let passengers at the counter take their sweet time rearranging their luggage to make it lighter—because why worry about the huge crowd of people who have been waiting for hours? Worst experience ever.

1 STAR

1 STAR — THE WORST AIRLINE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD

I have never experienced such unacceptable and unprofessional treatment from an airline and its staff.

After boarding the aircraft, I decided that I did not want to continue with the flight and clearly asked to leave the plane. I was not allowed to get off. Instead of receiving reasonable assistance or a proper explanation, the staff started telling me that I could have left a bomb on the aircraft simply because I had asked to disembark.

I found this completely outrageous and extremely distressing. I was treated as if I had done something wrong, when all I had done was clearly state that I no longer wanted to take the flight.

What was even more disturbing was that I felt that I had no choice but to continue the flight after being refused permission to leave. The way the staff handled the situation was intimidating, disrespectful and completely unacceptable.

I have travelled with many airlines, but I have honestly never encountered such arrogant, insensitive and unprofessional behaviour from airline staff.

TUI — NEVER AGAIN.

Not tomorrow, not next year, not ever. I would rather choose any other airline than fly with TUI again.

This experience completely destroyed my trust in the company. I would not recommend TUI to anyone based on the way I was treated.

If this is how TUI treats passengers who simply ask to leave an aircraft, then the company has a very serious problem with its customer service and the way its employees deal with people. These people are absolutely insane. The Belgian pilot apparently doesn’t even trust their own security system — because apparently, at Brussels Airport, a national airport in Belgium, I can simply bring a bomb onto a plane!

What a bunch of complete idiots!

You have a big chance not being able to sit close to your loved ones or travel companions

Me and my partner got 2 seats next to each other on the flight out. As you would expect if you’re traveling together. Seemingly this was pure coincidence. On the way back we got 1 seat in front of the plane and 1 seat all the way in the back. It was not even possible to reserve 2 seats next to each other. This was an all inclusive trip it is strange that a company like TUI does not consider putting people with a shared booking next to each other or close to each other in that matter.

Also the flight was delayed 7 Hours.
I would only recommend TUI if you travel alone or do not care to sit close to your loved ones..

Seats have become too small on these…

Seats have become too small on these planes, especially with overweights next to you. Vomit from previous person on seat! There is not enough cleaning on flights between Punta Cana and Brussels. The vomit smell in my seat was nauseating and there were rests of vomit in the magazine pouch. Disgustingly dirty and not acceptable.

Disappointing overall

Disappointing overall. While the service technically delivered what was promised, the experience was far from smooth. I encountered multiple delays, and getting clear answers from customer support was frustrating. Nothing was outright terrible, but the lack of communication and attention to detail made it hard to feel confident. Definitely room for improvement.

TUI Fly is a complete scam

TUI Fly is a complete scam! My Rabat → Paris flight was a nightmare from start to finish. They weigh even small carry-on bags to charge extra fees, online check-in was not available, and the check-in staff in Rabat was rude and unprofessional. Worst of all, the plane took off with a deflated landing gear tire, causing panic on board. After landing, we were stuck for 45 minutes on the plane for repairs, then another 45 minutes to get our luggage. Avoid this airline at all costs – the worst low-cost ever.

Never again

They almost made me to miss my flights. They made me to pay 144 usd extra because of backpack overweight which could only be 3kg which was not stated anywhere and also a joke as it is always 10kg at least normally.
After paying they still made me to unpack my backpacks and pack the overweight separately as I can not bring it on board it has to go below. The most uncomfortable experience, also after 25 years of flying the first time someone measured my backpack and also be that picky. Never again.

The customer service is terrible

The customer service is terrible. They don't reply to emails, leave us on hold for an excessive amount of time when calling, and take forever to respond on Facebook Messenger. This is all regarding a flight they rescheduled. Terrible service.

We travel from Brussels to Antalya several times a year, the prices are cheaper than anywhere else. The staff are very good and we have a very good flight, so far we have not had any problems.

No reaction from customer service

I had bought a return flight from TUIfly Belgium with the fly deluxe service package (reservation number 100093082600). As TUIfly made a mistake on the first flight, the fly deluxe customers didn’t get the service they had paid for. A flight attendant told us that we could make a complaint to get a reimbursement for the missing service, which I did. In a week’s time, I received a message from TUIfly customer service that I had received a reimbursement. They also sent a link to a website where I was supposed to get a text message verifying that it’s me, after which I could introduce my bank account number. The problem is that I don’t get this text message. I have since mid-April sent several emails to TUIfly customer service explaining this, without any personalised response. They have just resent the link to the website, but it is useless as I don’t receive the text message that would allow me to go further. I have also called them and offered to give my bank account info on the phone. This was not possible. I have also sent emails explaining that I already have a new booking with TUIfly and proposing that they reimburse the amount on this booking. No reply since 1,5 months. I’m glad that I’m only entitled to a small reimbursement, cannot imagine how it would be if I was waiting for hundreds or thousands of euros and the customer service completely ignored me. What is wrong with TUIfly customer service - too many complaints perhaps?
