Broken Equipment, Lost Payment, Extra charges
Avoid unless you enjoy paying twice for equipment that never arrives intact.
I ordered a machine and used Hellman's Logistics for importing in November 2025. It is now August 2026 and this is still unresolved.
First, paperwork took nearly four months. As a sole proprietor I list the business owner's name, which was rejected for not using the business name, then, after I resubmitted with the business name, rejected again because it "must be the owner's name." I ended up resending my original form, which was finally approved in March, four months after I started. By then my quote had expired and had to be reissued.
We paid 1100$ in April 10. The machine arrived in June damaged beyond use. Five panes of 1" plexiglass shattered, panes missing entirely, handles missing, the shipping crate missing, the motor on its side and leaking, pressure gauges broken off. We refused delivery, since accepting it would have obligated us to pay for shipping and equipment that arrived as scrap.
Filing a claim was its own ordeal. No response from our sales rep, no answers on the phone. We submitted with photo documentation. Hellman's then invoiced us for $3,100 plus $700 in tariffs, on top of the $1,100 we'd already paid, which was more than the machine's $3,500 cost, to import equipment we never received functional. When I pointed out we'd already paid, I was asked to prove it, as they seem to have no record of said payment. They've also billed us $1,700 for customs storage with no day rate, no duration, and no documentation to support the charge.
Nine months in, we have no working machine, an invoice that exceeds the item's value, and unverified storage fees. Meanwhile, we ordered equipment last month and it's already halfway to us using just UPS with none of these issues thus far. I cannot stress how badly this one shipment was mangled by Hellmann's, and compared to other options, it's clear that Hellman's is simply an incompetent company that should not be handling imports for companies. They cannot perform up to a reasonable standard.
