Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 366 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently struggle with unhelpful customer support teams, difficult warranty departments, and lengthy troubleshooting processes that completely fail to resolve everyday technical problems. Many buyers also encounter severe hardware defects, including constant overheating, sudden system crashing, and unexpected device failures shortly after making their initial purchase. Some reviewers were happy with the fast overall performance, smooth typing experience, and clear screen quality found on specific computer models. Other users appreciated the great customizable hardware options, responsive keyboards, and helpful guidance provided by customer service representatives when choosing their devices.

I have an Alienware, hate the A/C adapter

I have an Alienware and love the laptop but the A/C adapter is a nightmare. It won't stay plugged in. If I try to move the laptop sometimes the A/C adapter turns off and I have to unplug it from the wall, wait a moment and re plug it. I replaced it 3 times, same problem every time. Will not but another laptop from them.

I used to like Dell. Now I hate it.

This business has gone downhill.

As an IT professional who has used Dell for servers and end user laptops for almost a decade now, they have turned into a money hungry entity. Cutting corners where ever possible.

I used to get white glove treatment with dell account managers who were competent and had the ability to help but now they are just glorified sales men who are useless to you unless it's shoving new products down your throat.

Quality assurance is abysmal. Newly bought laptops are coming in more and more pre-damaged. And if you try to get a hold of support to get the laptop replaced, good luck trying to get a hold of anyone.

What a joke of a company/brand this has become.

Manufacturing Defect on Inspiron 15 5501 — Poor Handling of Legitimate Complaint

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series 5501 laptop in September 2020 for £819. After approximately 5 years of careful use — always kept in a protective case and never dropped or mishandled — the rear casing began cracking, fragmenting and shedding debris. The bottom chassis has physically separated from the body with multiple retaining clips completely snapped. The laptop cannot be closed or transported without causing further damage, making it completely unfit for purpose as a portable device.

This is a known issue. A quick search of Dell's own community forums reveals multiple customers reporting identical failures on the same model. I raised a formal complaint in May 2026 under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Limitation Act 1980.

I want to be clear on something that many consumers don't realise — your rights do not end when the manufacturer's warranty expires. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods must be of satisfactory quality (Section 9), fit for purpose (Section 10), and as described (Section 11). Under the Limitation Act 1980, UK consumers have up to six years from the date of purchase to bring a claim. My purchase date of September 2020 falls firmly within that window. Dell's warranty expiring in September 2021 is completely irrelevant to these statutory rights — and no company can take those rights away from you regardless of what their internal policy says.

What followed was three months of being passed between multiple Dell departments — Fardeen Shah, Vijay Sai S, Rohith Unni, Divya Rokandla and finally Prateek Nayak from Advanced Resolution Services. Throughout this process Dell:

Described structural chassis fragments as rubber feet
Quoted a repair price of £247.21 then later said the parts didn't exist
Stated their own Customer Relations team was not trained to discuss law
Gave me a 3 day deadline to respond that included a Bank Holiday weekend
Maintained there is no known defect despite their own forums saying otherwise

Dell's final position was to offer a £100 goodwill voucher — but only redeemable against a minimum £400 spend on a new Dell product, meaning I would need to spend £300 of my own money to use it. For a product that failed through no fault of my own, this is not an acceptable resolution.

I want to be fair — Dell did eventually escalate to a senior level and engage with my complaint seriously. The goodwill gesture shows some acknowledgment that something went wrong. But the conditions attached to it and the three months it took to get here do not reflect well on the process.

If you own an Inspiron 15 5000 series and are experiencing casing issues — you are not alone. And if any company tells you your rights expired with your warranty — they are wrong. Research the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Limitation Act 1980 before accepting any response. Know your rights.

Dell technician destroys XPS 13 during diagnostic check - Legal Action Required to resolve

I ordered a £44 diagnotic check for my 2 year old XPS 13 2-in-1 detachable 9315 with a degraded battery (battery life was around 2 hours). The idea was to get them to fit a new battery which is tricky for this tablet style device.
The diagnostic check found the unit FULLY FUNCTIONAL but with evidence of liquid ingress. They quoted around £600 to replace the battery and other components. I declined as I only wanted the battery replaced but Dell were unwilling to do a partial repair. I asked for the unit to be reassembled and sent back in the same functioning condition as when they received it.
On receiving the device back from Dell, the screen has been damaged and not properly seated. There is a gap around the edge on one side and colour bleed the size of a thumb-print near the power port.
Dell won't refund the diagnostic fee or repair the damage their technician caused, free of charge.
After 4 weeks, I'm still without my device. I told Dell that I needed a device by 4 Sept 2026 latest. No timely resolution has resulted in me having to purchase a replacement device (Surface Pro 13 as I'll never go Dell again).
After numerous emails and escalations, Dell are now offering to take the device back and consider a discounted repair cost.
As they are in breach of the Goods and Services Act 2015 for not performing a service with satisfactory workmanship, have destroyed my property, and have caused me severe inconvenience by not repairing the device in a timely fashion, I have served them with a Letter before Action and intend to start legal proceedings in 14 days.
I am claiming £450 for the refund of the diagnostic fee and the fair value of a functional 2 year old device with degraded battery.

Dell Turkey & Dparca Refuse to Provide 3.5" HDD Bracket for Tower ECT1250 - Corporate Security Risk

I am writing as the end-user of a Dell Tower ECT1250 i5 desktop computer. This computer was deployed and handed over to me by my employer on July 21, 2026. Our institution has deployed around 50 units of this model, and we discovered that NONE of these 50 desktop towers contain the internal 3.5" Drive Bay (HDD caddy/bracket) or the internal proprietary motherboard SATA power cables.

Dell's official marketing images, website illustrations, and product catalogs clearly showcase this desktop chassis with an internal 3.5" Drive Bay. Based on these official visuals, this part should have been included by default. I am completely denied the fundamental right to upgrade a desktop PC's storage.

I spent weeks trying to reach a real person through Dell Turkey’s automated phone systems, virtual assistants, and social media channels with no success. Finally, on August 5, 2026, I managed to speak with a Dell Engineer named Mr. Caner. He officially directed me to Dell’s authorized spare parts partner in Turkey, "dparca.com". I then spoke with their representative, Mr. Cihan, who strictly stated that this internal drive bay is not sold separately, cannot be back-ordered, and can only be obtained if configured during the initial factory assembly.

Because of this absurd restriction, I am forced to keep my 1TB WD (Western Digital) HDD in an external USB enclosure on my desk. This creates a severe corporate data security risk, as anyone in the office can plug out the drive and steal sensitive institutional data.

I demand that Dell Turkey immediately provide this missing bracket kit and the required cables to me free of charge based on their misleading advertising, or at least make it available for purchase separately at a reasonable spare-part price. I also demand a clear explanation as to why Dell distributes this desktop model in Turkey without basic upgrade components, leaving corporate clients and hundreds of end-users stranded.

3rd party SSD alegedly non-compatible in DELL 16S laptop

Purchased a DELL 16S laptop with 512Gb SDD with intention to use 2Tb SSD from defective DELL Laptop.

I installed a cloned WD BLUE SN570 SDD and was met with a BIOS level warning 'a non-compliant SSD is installed, resulting in missing backup files. Replace with a compliant SSD. Failure to replace may result in boot failure'. I ignored this and the PC boots without issue. The DELL tech dept have told me the SSD is compliant so why the warning. DELL cannot explain it nor can they remove the warning. I am not buying an 2Tb SSD from DELL (possibly costing near £600).

I will live with the wrning message but it could steer lesser knowledgeable people to aksing DELL to assist. If I wanted to be a sheep I would by a "fruity" computer.

Poor show Dell

Design problems increase

Last year I bought a Dell XPS Pro Laptop (for the second time after the first died thru overheating).
The XPS Pro 16 still has the same design problems as my previous 5-year-old one despite reporting the problem (Shutdown and fingerprint reader are the same key). In addition, the keyboard mouse has been dropped and incorporated into the keyboard frame, meaning right-click is now ambiguous with left-click. and the laptop requires an external keyboard to work.
Not good publicity for a firm with a good reputation.

Dell desktop computers have been…

Dell desktop computers have been outstanding for the many years I have owned them. However, the Dell 22 Monitor SE2225HM and likely all their monitors are junk.
This Dell 22 died after 4 months and 12 days. It's cheaply made of plastic and wobbles turning it on and off. But in trying to replace it under your whopping 1 year warranty period, you have to go thru 64 questions, send a photo of the monitor plugged in since they don't believe you anyway and all this aggrevation for a lousy $80 monitor? No thanks. I had a spare Acer just in case, plugged it in and was good - make that better - to go. They have all worked great and lasted several years - not a few months.

Disappointing Customer Service – No Response After Three Weeks

I contacted Dell because our nonprofit organization was ready to purchase a new computer and needed to have our tax-exempt status applied to the purchase.
The Dell representative asked me to provide the documentation required to process the tax exemption, and I promptly submitted everything requested. Since then, more than three weeks have passed. Despite several follow-up emails asking for an update, I have received no response and no information about the status of our request.
What makes this particularly frustrating is that we are not even trying to resolve a problem with an existing purchase — we are simply trying to buy a Dell computer.
After more than three weeks of waiting and repeated attempts to get a response, we are now considering purchasing from another manufacturer. This has been an extremely disappointing customer service experience and certainly not what I expected from a company like Dell.

Extremely Poor Dell Customer Service

**Extremely Poor Dell Customer Service**

Very disappointing experience with Dell. My system has been non-functional for **45+ days**, and despite raising the same issue **6 times**, there is still **no clear resolution, no proper clarity, and no firm commitment**.

For weeks, I have received only changing and general updates from the support team. Even after escalation, there is still no clear explanation about the actual reason for the delay or what concrete action is being taken.

As a customer, I cannot keep waiting indefinitely based on uncertain information. **45+ days without a working system and still no clear solution is completely unacceptable.**

Very poor communication, poor ownership, and extremely disappointing after-sales support from Dell.

Terrible support

Terrible support. Every few weeks they make it a little bit worse. Now you need to talk to an AI robot to open the case via chat on the site, or call, and then you will be talking to 3 different layers of AI that will ask you why you are calling for and not understand the issue. When you eventually talk to a human, they can barely open the case, and then will do nothing else. You then have to call again to escalate because you cant even add a simple not in the case, yet you can add attachment, you you can communicate by screenshotting your notepad and sending as jpeg. This is retarded. And once the case is closed, the manages will keep calling youn to give feedback to fill their forms. It s a complete pain if this is what you call Enterprise support , well, good luck. I am not even an end customer, I am partner, with special process to open cases on behalf of end customers. The process is completely broken and nobody cares. This is ridiculous to be honest especially when you know the cost of support contracts.

Profoundly disappointed- Will explore…

Profoundly disappointed- Will explore other options in the future. Have been dell customer since 1999- professional. Bought multiple laptops, docking stations, monitors, etc.
Typical tech support was usually good, informed, competent. If new part required, typically a tech would quickly come on site to repair (motherboard replacement) or part would be sent Fed Ex 2 day service, sending back the replaced part.

June 22,2026, premium tech support diagnosed my dead docking station. He tried to order it and was reject- reason unknown. It had been a refurbished Dell docking station sent October 20, 2025, replaced on warranty. It was still under warranty till July 2026.
I DID NOT RECEIVE THE CURRENT REPLACEMENT DOCKING STATION UNTIL 08/11/2026, ALMOST 2 MONTHS FROM JUNE 22. The time DELL customer service could not figure out what was going on PASSED THE WARRANTY DATE!
I could not get an explanation out of Dell why I was not getting a replacement docking station, starting on June 22, 2026. I persisted, making repeated calls- (premium tech package)- no explanation-left hand and right hand did not communicate.Made it up to Corporate Resolutions desk. They told me NOW the prior docking station was out of warranty AS OF JULY. I pushed back, saying it was due to their not figuring out how to replace it. I ended the call with understanding they had found a new replacement and that it would be covered under the warranty. I just saw my Am Ex and discovered they CHARGED ME FULL PRICE.

Profoundly disgusted with Dell.

My Dell Inspiron laptop is still under…

My Dell Inspiron laptop is still under warranty. So when I had a problem with the battery draining much faster than it should, I contacted Dell Support who told me I would have to send it to them to fix. First, they tried to sell me a different hard drive which had nothing to do with the problem. But even though I would have considered that, I was told my original hard drive would not be returned so I told them to just fix the problem I sent it to them to fix and leave the hard drive alone.
After several weeks and a hassle with FedEx because of Dell's shipping instructions, I finally was able to pick the laptop up. When I turned it on, I was shocked that I was getting a a piercing noise with a white screen that said "there is no hard drive installed" and to shut the computer down. I took the laptop to a computer tech I use. He opened the laptop and, indeed no hard drive was installed. I immediately called and emailed the service advisor I had been dealing with but he did not address that issue, only acknowledging he received my voicemail. But sheer happenstance, while I was at my tech's store, I saw an approximately 1"x4" strip on his work table that looked like what was stapled inside a baggie to a "Post Repair Letter" that came back with my computer from Dell.
I am not a tech savvy person. I had no idea that the little blue strip inside the small ziplock bag stapled to the Post Repair Letter was my hard drive. Once my tech told me what it was, I had to return home to bring it back to my tech's shop for him to install. Why would Dell ever return a computer to a customer without first reinstalling the hard drive???? That’s not how I sent it to Dell!
Once my tech reinstalled the hard drive more problems arose. The touch pad did not work. The touch screen did not work. My PIN did not work. The numeric keys did not work. He was able to fix the touch pad but my PIN still doesn’t allow access and I have had to leave the laptop in his store to work on some more. Apparently, someone at Dell created a conflict between the mother board and the hard drive that is keeping the laptop from recognizing a PIN and it is still not fixed. What the heck did the Dell techs do to my computer? They were only supposed to diagnose and fix the accelerated battery drain that would cause it to power off in less than an hour. Nothing else should have been touched. Instead, Dell's techs changed a bunch of settings and I don’t know if I will get it working again like it used to. In the Post Repair Letter that was sent with the returned laptop, it says: “Replace Cables. We ran full diagnostics on your system to make sure everything was running smoothly before shipping”. How is that possible when I have had all the problems cited above. It will cost me at least $200 to have it put back so it works like it used to and I still don’t know if Dell fixed the problem it was sent to them to fix. I emailed Dell's tech supervisor that I had communicated with about all of these problems but have not received any response.

I'd prefer to give 0 stars

I'd prefer to give 0 stars. I ordered two items and paid extra for faster shipping so they'd arrive on the day i was off work. Days passed and didnt recieve any shipping update. Its now past the delivery date and still says processing. Trying to contact them via phone or online is impossible. Online it sends you to their chatbot that is completely useless and wont connect you to an actual person. Instead it gives you a link that connects right back to the chatbot. Then when you call its impossible to even get through to a human being and when you do its someone from india that clearly does not even try to do their job. Save yourself the trouble and order from literally anywhere else.
