Do not rely on Commerzbank cards when…

Do not rely on Commerzbank cards when travelling outside Germany. I ( a so called premium customer) have had numerous transactions blocked, failed to be able to rent a car and the customer service is worse than dreadful. I recently reactivated 2 uk cards and the blocking problems are non existamt there, and customer service is kilometres ahead of Commerzbank. I might now consider ING DB or N52 for my German banking too.

Incompetent Customer Service and a Terrible Banking App

The most disgusting bank I have ever dealt with in my entire life.

You never know when money will actually be deducted from your account. The whole banking experience is unpredictable and stressful.

The customer service is completely incompetent. Whenever you contact them for help, you end up wasting your time and often creating even more problems because different agents provide misleading or contradictory information.

For example, when I simply asked why the Kontoalarm was not working, a customer service representative actually told me to file a complaint against her instead of trying to solve the problem.

On another occasion, both photoTAN and online banking stopped working—I couldn’t activate photoTAN or even log into my account. After I explained this, the agent simply told me that I had to activate photoTAN before he could help me, completely ignoring the fact that the reason I was calling was because photoTAN itself could not be activated.

The online banking app is a complete disaster. The Kontoalarm has never worked properly despite reinstalling the app and updating it to the latest version. Incoming transfers are frequently delayed. I often had to wait half a day or even an entire day longer than my colleagues before my salary actually became available in my account.

To make matters even worse, after closing my account, Commerzbank even charged me a fee without any prior notice or a clear explanation of what it was for.

The worst experience, however, was related to a failed direct debit. In my experience, the failed payment was caused by technical issues and problems with their online banking system, which resulted in the payment being reversed and Payback pursuing me for the returned payment.

I filed a complaint with BaFin. In its official response, Commerzbank insisted that the returned direct debit was “not due to a technical error” (”nicht aufgrund eines technischen Fehlers”) and described the refund as “a one-time gesture of goodwill” (”einmalig aus Kulanz”). They also stated that they considered all of my questions to have been “answered transparently and conclusively.”

I found this response extremely arrogant. Instead of acknowledging my concerns, they denied any technical problem and presented the refund as a gesture of goodwill, as if they were doing me a favor

What a high handed uncaring bank

As others report here, my account was closed by this high handed and arrogant bank after 35 years. No reasons given. Apart from that, communication with them is almost impossible. No humans, just machines. Stay away as far as you can.

I truly regret opening my account with this bank. Support online is horrible ! They are not willing to help and block the conversation so you can’t write and they force you to leave. Beate Dicks one of the employees left the chat completely ignoring me and being very rude. Horrible bank ! I will change it soon.

Very bad and rude customer service

I need to complain about the Neu-Isenburg office, today after waiting for so long to receive my online banking information I went with my husband to this office to open a Girokonto, i speak english and german but my husband doesn't and the lady said "to have an account he must speak english or German otherwise we cannot accept it" I can't believe this kind of discrimination is used for the people who work at this bank, of course I thank her politly even she didn't deserve it and I went to another more famous bank and I got immediately an appointment for tomorrow to open an account for him. Unbelievable Commerzbank. So sad . 2thumbs down

CB provides no reason for cancelling loyal customer account

Having been a CB customer for over 40 years, and having continued to use the bank services for monthly transfers within Germany/Europe (and certainly not incurring overdrafts), I recently received notice that my account would be closed. No explanation provided. Bank officials are adamant that, by law, the bank doesn't need to provide reasons. So what if they don't "need" to? This is just downright rude and hugely inconvenient. I strongly discourage anyone from having any dealings with this bank.

I would give it zero

I would give it zero, the service is absolutely awful. Give yourselves at least an hour to wait at the Wiesbaden branch for simple transactions. Every single time. And no one gives a shit.

Worst bank experience I had after dealing with Banks in 4 countries.

I applied for opening account to get my corporate shares 18/07/2025. Today is 06/10/2025 - account is still not opened.
1) After 2 months, They lied that they contacted to me trying to put responsibility on me.
2) After I sent additional info that was requested, and another week of silence I wrote once again if they can confirm they got my info. they wrote back that now they are missing my opening account form which was sent 18/07/2025.
3) all this communication is going through regular email instead of some web page form or app where it would be possible to see status and data attached which can eliminate issues with application forms and data missing.
4) every time it is me trying to find what is wrong with their opening account procedure.

The only reason I am dealing with them is my employer works with them.

Hope they carry money better then opening accounts.

Forty years+ as a loyal client.... joke

After more than forty years as a loyal client, Commerzbank abruptly cancelled both my private and business accounts without explanation and ignored all my objections.
From the outside, the decision looks less like an individualized review and more like a “de-risking” exercise — a compliance shortcut where long-standing customers are pushed out because they are seen as low-revenue or potential AML risks.
This is absurd, since regulators themselves have warned banks not to hide behind de-risking and algorithms, and the real money-laundering dangers usually lie with large-volume clients, not small customers such as me.
Instead of engaging with me or even replying, the bank simply shut my accounts on the date it had set, leaving me unable to transact.
In short, Commerzbank maximizes profit and cancels service completely, even in such situations.
The strategy of Commerzbank’s top management obviously means that, for all intents and purposes, there is no longer a customer who is banking with Commerzbank — and if this is the future of banking, one can only hope that such banks cease to exist soosn, going forward.

I would give -50 stars if it was…

I would give -50 stars if it was possible. After being a loyal customer for 13 years with a giro account, I was forced into a Business account and locked out of my accounts repeatedly over and over. I have literally never dealt with this level of incompetence before. 10 visits to a bank 30 minutes from my house, numerous phone calls, and over 20 hours of work to try to just shut down this damn account and no one can actually get it right. Its endless and shockingly bad. So many lost hours of my life with no apologies for taking all my time and messing up so many times. Over and over and over.

If I could give minus stars, I would

Having been customers for 4 Generations we have never had an issue - until the Commerzbank decided to close our daughters account. Despite numerous queries and complaints we were told "we do not give explanations for why we close accounts". I am beyond disgusted and if I could give minus 5 stars I would.
This is not to say they haven't been great previously, but this decision will cause us to leave the bank and take our money elsewhere.
