Unfortunately, Scam customers

Unfortunately, my experience with Alamo ended with a disputed damage claim of €965.28, despite the vehicle being returned personally to an Alamo employee at the Friedrichshafen location on 21.05.2026.

I handed over the keys in person and specifically asked for a return inspection. I was informed that an inspection was not necessary, and no damage was mentioned at the time of return. The deposit was subsequently released.

Weeks later, I received a damage claim alleging a burn hole in the driver's seat. What I find concerning is that no damage was documented in my presence during the return process, while the documents later provided to me indicate that the TÜV repair-cost assessment was commissioned on 01.06.2026, approximately 11 days after the vehicle had already been returned.

I have my own photos from the day of return showing the interior, driver's area, footwell, instrument cluster, roof, and exterior of the vehicle. I have therefore formally disputed the claim and requested the complete documentation, original photographs, metadata, pre-rental condition records, and evidence linking the alleged damage to my rental period.

I will leave others to draw their own conclusions, but my advice is clear: always insist on a documented return inspection and take extensive photos and videos of the vehicle when returning it.

DO NOT RENT FROM ALAMO

I rented a car in Illinois, and I added the rental car to my pay-by-plate iPass in Illinois. I have rented many cars in Illinois from different car rental places and NEVER had an issue. I received a fee that I didn't pay my tolls which I knew was a mistake. I immediately provided Alamo with my proof that I registered the rental with my pay-by-plate for tolls. I received an email from Alamo stating that they cannot return my fee because did not include 2 letters when filling out the license plate. Remind you this license plate was not your typical Illinois blue/white, red writing plate, this was a special plate that looked very weird and was green and white. I spoke with several representatives with no resolution and even contacted Kieara which kept apologizing but did not attempt to return my money off something that wasn't my fought. I WILL NEVER RENT FROM ALAMO AGAIN! I highly suggest others not to waste their time as there are so many better rental companies that care about customers and would never be this petty in adding a fee off of something that was clearly an error.

Dirty car no fuel

We hired car from bari railway station today. On arrival advised by attendant car would be 200 metres around corner. Walked to road and meg by msle on electric scooter how handed me key say I ng car was around corner. No show around car. After walking around corner wheeling 4 bags found disgusted dirty car. Loaded bags up to drive back to office and found half tank of fuel. Parked car and office locked. Drove to destination and called office and told. Just return car dirty with no fuel to which I advised I had no intention of cleaning car but wanted a clean full car on receipt. They didn't care. DO NOT HIRE FROM ALAMO. UNPROFESSIONAL AND DISAPPOINTING. PERHAPS MANAGEMENT COULD CONTACT US.

Some problems - but great customer service

I rented a mid-size SUV for 3 days from O'Hare. When we arrived, there were none available so had to wait about 10 minutes for one to be delivered to the rental area. Then had some relatively minor issues with the vehicle - the brights would automatically come on (and not at the right times). We changed that setting, but each time the car was turned off and on, it went back to the default. Worse was the screen which was used for all settings - at times it would not turn on, which meant no access to anything including the A/C settings. I mentioned these issues when turning the car in, and what made this a 4-star review is that I was immediately offered a discount for my inconvenience . I hadn't asked for anything and was just mentioning the screen malfunction so that could fix it, so it was great customer service for them to offer the discount (thank you Shawn!).

Toll pass rental is very deceptive

Toll pass rental is very deceptive. I don't recommend. I spoke with the desk agent when picking up my rental. I was on my way to see my mother in the hospital before she passed. I had a nice chat with the agent and thought that renting the toll pass meant the tolls were covered. I've had them covered with toll passes from other rental companies. There was nothing in the rental agreement about having to pay all tolls even if you rent the pass. And the agent let me rent it thinking that was the case. Then I got a bill for all the tolls, plus a "convenience fee"--all on top of renting the pass. The advice from Alamo is that I should have looked up the fine print online. I trusted that the agent would have informed me.

Profiteering from their customers misfortunes

Rented a car from them in Croatia. The car was actually an Enterprise car (not sure what the relationship is!). We had also reserved a child seat but they said they didn’t have any but sent us to another company desk to pick up one of theirs (couldn’t be bothered sorting that out themselves!). The car had a few battle scars but was functional enough - similar enough to what we had actually ordered.
Whilst driving near Trogir I clipped a stone jutting out by the side of the road and got a puncture. (No spare tyre). I phoned the hire desk and they advised that it would be cheaper for me to get the repair done myself. I phoned a couple of local tyre companies who advised that they didn’t have those tyres in stock and expressed surprise that I had Winter tyres on! They advised it would take a few days to get one. I rang the hire desk back and they arranged for a replacement car to be brought out which actually was undertaken quite efficiently. The issue came with the bill! Admin charges and vehicle recovery charges were itemised separately and were okay. The new tyre (which I was quoted €100 from the tyre companies) was charged at €663!! I obviously complained but customer services issued a “matrix” which they use to compile their charges and in no way explained or justified the level of cost being applied. They completely avoided the point that the incorrect tyres were fitted in the first instance and failed to respond any further. I feel that they should be exposed for profiteering to such an extent from the misfortunes of their own customers. Appalling behaviour and quite shocking customer service!

I am submitting this complaint because…

I am submitting this complaint because my experience with Alamo was completely unacceptable and demonstrated a serious failure in customer service.
I arrived at the San Diego airport late in the evening with a confirmed reservation. Earlier that day, I had completed the online check-in, as Alamo recommended, confirming that I would be picking up my vehicle.
When I arrived at the rental counter, I was told that Alamo did not have my reserved vehicle—or any vehicle at all—to provide. The representative offered no meaningful assistance and appeared annoyed that I was asking for a solution. I was simply told, "There's nothing I can do. We don't have a car. You'll have to leave and call the main reservation line."
When I called Alamo's reservation center, I was told they also could not help because the local office had no vehicles available. Their "solution" was to create a new reservation beginning the following day. However, because they did not honor my original reservation and instead created a new one, the price increased to nearly three times my original confirmed rate.
I explained that stranding a customer at the airport around midnight and then requiring them to pay nearly three times more to fix a problem caused entirely by Alamo was completely unreasonable. Instead of addressing the issue, I was simply asked whether I wanted to accept the new reservation at the higher price.
I declined.
What is most disappointing is that no one from Alamo ever followed up to apologize, offer assistance, or attempt to make the situation right.
Fortunately, my hotel was only about a 25-minute Uber ride away, and I was traveling with my 16-year-old son. Had I been traveling with younger children, elderly family members, or needed to travel a significant distance from the airport, this situation could have left us stranded in the middle of the night with no practical transportation.
The most troubling part of this experience was not simply that Alamo failed to honor my confirmed reservation. It was that after failing to provide the reserved vehicle, the company attempted to charge me nearly three times the original price to resolve a problem entirely of its own making.
In my opinion, this type of business practice should be illegal. A company should not be allowed to fail to honor a confirmed reservation, leave a customer stranded late at night, and then attempt to profit from its own failure by charging substantially more for the same rental. Whether or not it violates consumer protection laws, I believe this is exactly the type of conduct those laws are intended to prevent.
This experience has completely eroded my trust in Alamo. A reservation should mean that a vehicle will be available, or that the company will take responsibility for providing a comparable solution at the agreed-upon price. Neither happened in my case, and I will never rent from Alamo again.

Stay away from Alamo

Alamo sent me a bill for about $1100 for a small scratch on the bumper. I didn't get the bill until 6 weeks after the fact. There are a couple of reasons I know I did not make that scratch. But there is nothing you can do with these big companies. This was an outright scam. Don't rent at Alamo. I got the car in Grand Rapids.

Holy shit!!

Holy shit, I would never recommend this shitty place to rent a car on Mallorca. Our flight was delayed, and when we finally arrived to pick up our car, they told us they had rented it out to someone else. The only way we could get a car was by paying several thousand more for one that could fit our family. Stay far away!!!

I returned my Chrysler Pacifica to the underground return at Edmonton International Airport. While gathering my belongings, I placed my expensive DITA sunglasses in the overhead sunglasses compartment. I clearly remember seeing them there when I finished unloading the vehicle.

I realized my mistake almost immediately and went back to Alamo. By then, the sunglasses were gone. I even noticed the rental employee checkimg the sunglass compartment as he drove off with it to park it in a stall now realizing he snagged them right in fromt if me .

So I rented a van from Alamo in France…

So I rented a van from Alamo in France at the CDG airport it was the worst experience ever. They gave me a van about two hours into our drive the van electrical components completely turned off no air conditioning no power steering no dash. OK so we pull off the road Call Alamo they stated they would send a Tow truck to pick up the van which they did. Then we call back and stated are they gonna Send send us a replacement vehicle They stated they only had one vehicle remaining for four people I stated to them there's eight of us this is why we rented a van, they said they would call back, they never did. We got stranded for two days had to rent two additional vehicles from a competitor at $500 per day is what they charged me. So for the next two days I preceded to call Alamo 22 times Every single time they hung up. Then I proceeded to call the national number they promised me that I would get a return call within one hour, never happened. We Lost booked tickets to tours for those two days that were non refundable. I understand things happen however their customer service is as bad as it gets Actually I don't know that I would call that customer service. However they had the audacity 5 days later to send me an email stating that the booking is complete and they will be charging my credit card. I would never ever recommend anybody rent from this horrible place where their main goal is to charge you and not give you any service. Never again

Alamo Jerez Airport refused to release…

Alamo Jerez Airport refused to release a paid rental car because they incorrectly treated a physical Debit Card as a prepaid card, despite their own published conditions stating that debit cards are accepted for this vehicle category.

The card was physically presented, in the driver’s name, and clearly marked “Debit Card”. Another member of our group collected an Alamo vehicle with a debit card the same evening, which shows an inconsistent application of the policy.

Very poor customer service, unclear policy enforcement, and zero practical support at the desk. I will never rent from Alamo again.

Really easy to pick up and drop off & great staff

Really easy to pick up and drop off. Friendly staff. I left a case in the boot and Michael who drove the shuttle helped me, he was so reassuring made sure I had my bag and made it back to the airport in plenty of time. It was great service before this, and the customer service was just fab in a crisis.
