Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service. Untrained, unable to answer simple questions about the products offered. If asking for a supervisor they keep you on HOLD then continue to tell you no one is available for over half an hour!
Australian small-business warning: @SquareAU has processed approximately $20,000 of River Cafe Parramatta’s ordinary café sales without remitting the money. Repeated support contacts and formal complaints have produced no substantive explanation or release date.
These are essential operating receipts needed for wages and suppliers. @SquareAU: assign a senior case manager, release all undisputed funds and provide a definite written resolution date. I will update this thread publicly when the money is received.
These funds are being held illegally. Do we need to call the Federal Police to investigate???

I have now used SQUARE for over 6 months. It is easy to use, easy to set up and their support has been helpful. There are a few issues that are problematic which they have not resolved, and unfortunately they have just got really greedy advising that their fees are going up from 1.6% to 1.95%. Given a Bank EFTPOS system is a lot cheaper at 1.1% you could probably justify the extra 0.5% due to the functionality of the overall system, however paying almost double the bank rate is not viable and will now need to look at alternatives. AND, their web site is still promoting a 1.6% fee even though they have advised their customers of the new rates effective 1st October 2026.
Operational wise, my biggest concern which they have not addressed is that you can only put a product on promotion in store by setting up a % discount on that item or group of products. In retail you don't want every product to be at a set % or to sit there an try and calculate out a % for every product you want to put on promo and with rounding this does not always work out either. You want to choose a particular price point. Unfortunately you cannot set individual price points except for the online store only. (I don't get why they make it so you can set a price point individually for an on line store but not for instore - go figure). So if you wish to put 20 different products on promotion you need to calculate and create the % for each product, assuming they are all different percentages. Then for every transaction the operator has to select the % discount for that product when a sale is made. This is crazy. This makes it impossible for staff to navigate, has the potential for unlimited errors and deliberate mistakes. Further, if there are multiple items in a category, then the system starts rounding. So if you sell 4 different varieties of Gatorade at the same % discount, 3 will be charged at $3.35 while the fourth charges at $3.36. This is a really a major issue. How do you advertise a sell price when the sell price varies. This also have an impact on profitability.
They have units of measure in the system but do not cater for cubic metre (m3) - only cubic yards due to the imperial based system they use. They issue a daily sales report which is good, unfortunately it does not give a breakdown figure for the cash taken - which is painful. So overall I can only give three stars.

Absolutely disgusting treatment of a legitimate small business.
After using Square to process genuine retail transactions, my account was suddenly deactivated. I provided the information and documentation requested, spent considerable time responding to their questions, and explained that I operate a legitimate physical retail jewellery store where customers attend in person and make purchases.
Despite this, Square simply responded that their decision was “final” and that they were “unable to provide additional details”.
So a payment provider can disrupt a small business’s ability to accept payments, potentially affect access to funds, demand hours of your time providing information, and then refuse to clearly explain what you are actually alleged to have done wrong.
The impact is real. I had a customer walk into my store wanting to make a purchase and I could not confidently process the transaction through Square while my account was deactivated and there was uncertainty surrounding access to funds.
Small businesses rely on payment providers to help us operate — not to suddenly prevent us from trading and then hide behind a generic response without providing a meaningful explanation or genuine opportunity to resolve the issue.
Being treated as though you have done something wrong simply for conducting legitimate business transactions is incredibly frustrating.
After this experience, I would not recommend Square to another small business owner. If your ability to trade depends on your payment processor, I would seriously consider the risk of having your account deactivated with little explanation and apparently no meaningful avenue for review.
Edit : don’t just update a shitty comment saying you don’t have my email address, you do and you did f all about it ! There’s no one to contact and I’m a real business .. are you ? WE ALREADY TREID THE HELP I GOT A STOCK EMAIL SAYING I CANT DISPUTE IT _ DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT Make sure my machine is refundable since YOU deemed it useless.

Square was surprisingly easy to set up. Simply download the app and follow the prompts. I ended up purchasing a Square reader and paired it with my phone to get payments from customers. Thank you Square for making a device that is compact, reliable and easy to set up!!!!

Perhaps a reminder when someone is starting out putting the information on the device … (a prompt when doing the part where the “business name” will appear on someone’s bank statement)
That’s the challenge that I have had. No matter where I have researched and on the mobile app, I cannot figure out how to shorten the name of our club so it makes sense when it appears on a players statement.
Used it for the first time on Saturday and we had trouble with the cards tap and pay we finally got there, we had to hold the card off the mobile device not down on it like you would think you would have to so hopefully that solve the issue.

Square is a simple solution to point of sale at things like craft markets.
The ability for offline transactions should there be a network outage is a big plus as some venues have "dead spots" for phone coverage and if your stall is placed in one of these it would be very inconvenient to have to walk outside every time to make a transaction.

I run a small consulting business helping local tradies and service businesses get set up online, and Square is one of the payment platforms I regularly recommend and configure for clients. The onboarding is fast, the dashboard is genuinely easy for non-technical business owners to understand, and support has been solid whenever a client's had a setup question.
What stands out most is how quickly a client can go from "no payment system" to actually taking card payments — whether that's in person, online, or through invoicing. I've set it up for a handful of small businesses now and it's consistently been the smoothest part of the process.
Would recommend to any small business owner who wants something reliable without needing a dedicated finance team.

Easy to use on my Android phone, with no additional hardware. Customers liked that it was 'Square' we were using.

I had to try and delete my weebly account but since they were aqquired by squareup i had to create a squareup account. But then, weebly kept redirecting me to squareup and squareup redirecting me to weebly. Their support didnt help much.
I asked support to delete my account but they only deactivated it and didnt do anything.
Please DELETE my squareup and weebly account and all data.
Thes guys not only have great prices, but their staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and help sort out any issues. They were extremely fast at getting the new hardware shipped out to us and Laura has been extremely nice and helpful during the onboarding experience!

The constant request for more information is tiring especially when square disables transfers out of my account until the information is reviewed when they finally get around to it...
