★☆☆☆☆ Charged for extras I never asked…

★☆☆☆☆ Charged for extras I never asked for – and billed MORE than the contract I "signed"

Rental at Ljubljana Airport, 27 June – 4 July 2026 (RA 9611920769). Booked through DiscoverCars for 130.34 EUR, car hire only, with Loss Damage Waiver already included. I have full rental coverage through my Mastercard and told the counter staff explicitly that I wanted nothing added to my booking.

What I was charged: 445.54 EUR. More than three times the booked price.

How it happened: the agent's screen faced away from me. I was handed an electronic signature pad showing nothing but a blank white box. No price breakdown, no terms, nothing on paper. I signed, believing I was confirming my existing booking.

What had been added: a "Basic Package" (deductible reduction) at 203 EUR incl. VAT – more expensive than the rental itself – on top of coverage my booking already included. Prepaid fuel, switching my booked full-to-full policy to full-to-empty. A "Flexi-Return" fee for changing return location – although I picked up and returned at the same airport.

The part that should worry every customer: the rental agreement they later sent me totals 426.02 EUR. My card was charged 445.54 EUR. They billed me beyond their own signed document. When I complained, they refunded only that difference and declared "all other charges are correct and will remain unchanged."

They also claimed I "received the signed rental agreement when collecting the vehicle." Their own system emailed it to me at 14:19 on 4 July – six minutes after I returned the car.

A signature on a blank pad is not consent to 300 EUR of extras. If you must rent here: refuse the pad until you have seen a printed price breakdown, photograph it, and record the conversation. Better: rent elsewhere.

So we got upsold egregiously for car…

So we got upsold egregiously for car insurance, which is completely overpriced. Please do not believe the lies that they will tell you.

They told us that our third-party car insurance wouldn't work here because the Slovenian police don't operate properly and we would need police reports to claim on our car insurance. This is all false. The Slovenian police operate fine and our third-party car insurance didn't require anything in particular. They would just try to pressure us into being upsold.

Then she packaged together a lot of things we'd already bought and claimed that she was giving them to us for free with a massive discount if we bought the car insurance. The car insurance she sold us was £400 compared with £40 from the third-party car insurance. Unbelievable ripoff.

Then they say that they're going to give us a better car but then the car isn't even here so we're waiting around in this car park.

Criminal car rental

Sixt Slovenia scammed us for 300 € in insurance even though we specifically told them No Insurance as we have a good travel insurance at home.
They keep telling us we have signed the agreement, but we were only presented with the signature screen on a mobile phone.
From all other reviews here we can see this is an outlet with a criminal scamming mindset.

Stay away!

Be careful with extra charges at SIXT

Be careful with extra charges at SIXT

We prepaid €449.92, with a €1,000 deductible and Roadside Assistance clearly stated as included. At pickup, we explicitly declined additional insurance.

We were nevertheless charged an additional €306.37, including charges for an LDW upgrade and Roadside Assistance.

SIXT refused our complaint, referring to the signed rental agreement, without addressing our concern about what was already included in the original booking.

Our advice: take screenshots of everything and check every single item before signing at the counter!

DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT LJUBLJANA

DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT LJUBLJANA!

When returning the car, they "found" a dent <1cm long on the rear passenger side door, the paint hadn't come away and it could not be seen unless observed at a specific angle. They are claiming that it occurred whilst I had the car for the 4 days I hired it for, but I know that it was there at the time of pick up - I must have missed it whilst checking the car (because it is so small you cannot notice it unless checking the car with a microscope!)

I refused to sign the rental agreement at the end of the rental and despite disputing the claim, they have ignored me and sent me a bill to pay for the damage.

Save your money and your energy - do not rent a car from these people, they will scam you.

Sixt checkout team claim 50% of cars come back with “damage”.

At pickup, I was strongly pushed to take additional insurance, being told that around 50% of their cars have damage. Then, after the rental, they claimed damage inside the boot — an area that had never been checked with me at checkout.

When I challenged the claim, SIXT relied on its terms and conditions rather than addressing what actually happened.

In my opinion, the whole process gives the impression of proactively looking for ways to charge customers rather than dealing fairly with genuine damage. They have lost a loyal customer.

Misleading process at pickup

When I placed an online reservation I deliberately selected the maximum deductible to keep the costs low.

At pick up, I did not knowingly upgrade this to an optional Basic Package. The employee did not clearly show the different protection options and their individual prices in the same transparant way as the online booking process.

ECC-Net and European consumer guidance for car rental emphasize that optional extras, especially additional insurance or protection products, should be clearly presented and priced so consumers can make an informed choice before signing.

I don’t believe this standard of transparancy has been met.

I contacted SIXT Slovenia to dispute the charge. Unfortunately, their response focused only on the fact that I signed the agreement, while my actual complaint about the lack of clear and transparent information was not properly addressed.

In my opinion, the sales process at pickup was misleading. I would strongly advise other customers to carefully check every additional charge on the tablet before signing, especially insurance or protection packages.

SIXT Ljubljana claims 77 euro damage on…

SIXT Ljubljana claims 77 euro damage on a car for small dent of 3 cm without paint scratch for which they do not have high resolution photos that it was not pre-existing at the time of the pick up (pick up was at 23;30 at night, black car and according to their own exterior dirty at the time). The report also has not high resolution photos that shows this dent (return outside of working hours). I have asked for evidence, this was ignored and bill was send. Do not rent here, they have a list of reviews showing customers with similar problems. I am currently in dispute with SIXT Ljubljana airport due to lack of any evidence.

BEWARE. DISHONEST COMPANY

BEWARE.
Even if you buy insurance thru them like tire protection. You will be billed a LOSS OF USE FEE.
after spending all that money for their insurance they still screw you over.

I never write reviews but this was gross. Im pretty reasonable. I get if you have a major accident and you take out a car from their fleet to rent out …. but for a tire patch they charge you an entire day - even after you pay tire insurance.

And for scratches you have to check everything. They are more stringent than Toyota is with defects off the factory floor.

ANY small defect will be used against you. Any tiny scratch even under the car is fair game for them. Even the plastic inside the car.

Being charged for extremely minor signs of use

I recently had a very disappointing experience with SIXT in Slovenia.

The issue concerns being charged for extremely minor signs of use – small scratches and normal wear in the luggage compartment. These are, in my view, completely insignificant and should be considered normal usage of a rental vehicle, not damage.

What is particularly important in this case is that the vehicle already showed clear signs of heavy prior use at the time of pickup. In particular, there was a large stain in the interior, which clearly demonstrates that the car was not in pristine condition when it was handed over to me. This strongly supports my position that the vehicle was already well used, and that the minor marks now being claimed as “damage” are consistent with normal wear and tear.

What is equally concerning is that my objections to the damage report have not been properly addressed. My comments were effectively ignored, which raises the question of why customers are asked to provide feedback if it is not taken into account in the handling of the case.

I am still waiting for clear documentation proving that these minor marks were not already present at the time of pickup. From my side, I documented the condition of the vehicle at handover, including existing signs of prior use, yet this has not been properly considered in the response.

Instead, the claim has simply been continued without engaging with the substance of my objection, which I find unacceptable.
I also do not understand how SIXT International can accept or endorse this type of business practice from SIXT Slovenia, where customers are charged for minor wear on a vehicle that was clearly already heavily used at the time of rental.

Insurance

I hired my car two weeks ago in Portoroz Slovenia. I drove Skoda Octavia which was almost new, as such in great condition.
My contaxt was Emanuel- a great service, very clear explanation and good advices, for ex. To take some insurance more than just basic.
I have some experiences with other rent a car companies and in my opinion Sict is not so much different: every company is looking for every detail, every scratch, that is why one should always take at least the second level of insurance (as with the basic one you will pay all damages up until 1000 eur).
I also found a day lease very expensive, but is it everywhere almost the same for a short terms lease.
Emanuel for sure contributed a lot to an overall good experience.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY…

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!
They are a bunch of con artists that will find the smallest minuscule mark and claim it is on the car you hired. They don’t supply date marked photos or show the registration number in the photos so there is no proof what vehicle it is on. Looking at their reviews it’s clear this is a standard practice scam they employ and the threatening emails they send are designed to get people to cough up to avoid the aggro. DO NOT PAY. An absolutely despicable company!

SCAMMERS - AVOID AT ALL COST

No surprises, SCAM COMPANY. This teaches me to read reviews before renting a car. They "find" "new" microscopic damages (in my case it was a >3cm door dent) that they cannot even prove in their own photos. Feel free to show me the dent on a photo they provided as supporting documentation of the damage. Of course a car body repair shop (probably the same for every case like this) will happily issue a bill for fixing any micro damage.

The case was forwarded to ecrcs . com, you can also file against them with gov. si - market inspectorate.
DO NOT PAY THEM, OF COURSE THEY WILL THREATHEN YOU WITH LEGAL CASES. Good luck with forwarding a 70euro case to any debt collection agency. I don't give a damn about being blacklisted and will not pay.

Oh, Sixt, don't bother with forwarding this comment to the Sixt Damage Department and the Country Manager. They are well aware of this case. Best regards!

INSPECT THE CAR with vigor!!!

The prices are reasonable and the car was pretty good (tire pressure was low 2 miles from pickup at airport). YOU MUST INSPECT THE CAR and point out EVERY TINY SCRATCH INSIDE AND OUT when picking up!! They do not mention anything about this but when you return the car they will go over it with incredible scrutiny. They charged me 350$ for tiny scuffs to interior trim and finish. Total SCAM to increase their rental profit.

SIXT franchise = SCAMMERS!

SIXT franchise branch in Slovenia are SCAMMERS! They gave me a car with 20 pre-existing damages, scratches all over the place.
After the rental they went straight to the drivers side door, checked really close the inside of the door and "found" small scratch. Afterwards tried to quote me for 338 Eur damage claim (I didn't cause the super small scratch, and it was visible only if you know where to look and only form like 30 cm away).

They threatened to blacklist me, and start a legal action if I didn't pay up. Their customers service is non-existent.

I submitted my case with the European Car Rental Conciliation Service and Customers EU service. They answered me:

"Having carefully reviewed the information from both parties we are now in a position to offer our comments and observations. We understand that you seek for the charge for damage to be removed. We liaised with Sixt and due to the size and location of the damage, we requested that the charge is removed as we did not believe the damage was visible enough to be determined by you on collection, if it were present. Sixt agreed to remove the charge for damage and therefore you will no longer receive any requests for payment of that charge. We hope that the above can help to resolve your case to your satisfaction and we would like to thank you for bringing the matter to our attention. "

Scam car rental - fictitious damage

Scam car rental agency that charges for phantom damage.
I picked up my car in SIXT Maribor and it already had small scratches reported on each of the front wheel rims.
I didn’t take any insurance since I have a travel insurance with a car rental add-on that is valid anywhere in the world.

When I returned the car, I was informed a small scratch (less than 5cm) was found on the rear rim and in a few days I received a damage report and an online link to settle it.

It has been my first phantom damage experience with car rentals and I am deeply disappointed by SIXT Maribor/Slovenija and will definitely never use the company again neither in Slovenia nor anywhere else.

Beware “loss of use” claim not covered by insurance.

We bought all the insurance cover they came up with. 2 days in we got a flat tyre. They told us we could not get the tyre fixed, they had to give us another car and so they swapped it for us in the next town we went to.
After the end of the rental we received an email from their Damage Department saying we owed them for the loss of rental on the days they kept the car off the road to get the tyre fixed. (3 days to fix a tyre??)
Any damage it seems will incur this charge, so even if you have paid for all insurance offered you will not be safe from this scam.
They threatened that if we don’t pay it they will blacklist us from Sixt internationally. As if we will ever rent from Sixt again. Still fighting this charge.

Up Sale and Damage Scam - RUN!!

Upon renting the car there was a strong attempt to up sale unnecessary insurance. The attempt was borderline fear mongering and the attendant next to us shook her head in disapproval that we didn’t buy the insurance. lol. The strong up sale gave the impression we’d have trouble when checking the car back in.

The pre-check with the car attendant was sub-par without good direction. We took our own photos and video as we anticipated they would “find” new damage upon returning the car. (Re up sale attempt)

When i returned the car the attendant took the key and told me I was free to go. I walked a distance away to observe what would happen next. He then began to inspect the car and take pictures with his phone. I approached him and asked if he was finding damage. He said he had. I then produced images showing the damage existed during the pre-check. He was satisfied with this and ended his inspection. If I hadn’t watched and gone back I would have FOR SURE been charged for the damage that was not done by us.

Finally, I was charged for “2 extra days”, 32 eu. However, we didn’t keep the car longer than agreed upon and had it back on time.
