Kia ... Not!

I am sharing my recent experience with Hummingbird Motors to raise awareness about vehicle safety and consumer rights.
I purchased a used 2019 Kia Sportage from them in January. By May, it suffered a serious engine failure. Following their repair, a severe safety issue emerged: the vehicle actively pulls the steering wheel sharply left and right and the brakes engage independently without driver input.
The dealership eventually agreed to look at the car, leaving me with a hire vehicle. They held my vehicle for 5 weeks, failed to produce a diagnostic report, and has now rejected my legal right to a refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015—dismissing independent braking as "normal behaviour."
From Monday, I will be stranded without a safe vehicle to drive. I expect a higher standard of safety and consumer care from a major brand franchise. Be very careful about the brand you buy! @KiaUK

Today 28/07/2026

Today 28/07/2026, I took my car to the Group 1 Kia
Unit 6 Gateway Business Park
Pipers Road
Coulsdon
CR5 2AR for services and as I had issues with reverse camera as well as my AC not working. I arrived at around 8:50 for a 9:15 appointment. At the reception, there were two gentleman serving customers, it took them some time to finish and I was confused but I can tell something was not right. Soon after, one of the customers were not happy, he started saying “this is the 3rd time you let me down. Give me my fu*** car key “and then left. There was one lady trying her best to ease things and change the atmosphere by approaching and reassuring us that it will not be long. There were so many men wearing the company uniforms coming in and out as if they are in the Gym showing off their big muscles. After more than 20 minutes of waiting, one of the receptionists took my details, and I told him the reason why I’m here, he told me it will take between 4-6 hours plus the price, so I agreed and sat down. After 16:00 which is almost 7 hours since I handed it over, I went to the gentleman to update me and he took the car details and that was when he told me “unfortunately no one has seen your car yet as we don’t have a technician” I was so angry and disappointed that it took them 7 hours without informing me. I am a self-employed person and I lost my daily income just seating and waiting without any explanation. I then requested to see a manager and they pointed out to the person who was near by. He apologized and he told me he was new to the place, he offered if I could leave the car over night for it to be done the following day. However after my awful experience with them I did not feel confident to leave my car there so I left without a service I went for.
My day was ruined and I lost potential income I could have earned if the job was done on time.

After this horrible event, I personally think those gentleman need to be trained/serviced before opening their doors to others. One of the things I noticed is that, they have the guts to display a note asking customers to rate the service 10/10. What I received today was way far from 10/10. If I was to be honest and rate my experience, I would say 0/10 without exasperation.image0.jpeg

I hope to hear your response soon.

Kind regards Mr Hagos

Kia sportage gt line hybrid my26 fwd car. ADAS system intelligent speed limit assist gives incorrect road speed limit. Contacted dealership and was advised to contact Kia as they can not fix the issue. Contacted Kia customer service and they advised that they are not technical and I must go to dealership. Nothing was done by kia Australia or dealership. Kia Connect app was updated in June and most of the Street address are not available through app now. Contacted Kia Australia and they advised they are not technical people and cannot fix it and i should visit dealership. Dealership advised this is not car issue this is app issue and kia Australia has to fix. Sent documentation from dealership to kia Australia. Received response that only maps are not working and this beyond their capabilities to fix the issue. Very disappointing and frustrating.

Worse warranty experience …

After more than 12 vehicle transactions with Kia of Newmarket—including purchasing, trading in vehicles, and referring friends and family—I never expected to be treated this way.

My 2023 Kia Telluride suffered an engine issue that I believed should have been covered under the factory warranty. I provided all of my service records and cooperated fully throughout the investigation. When they requested additional information, including proof of payment for oil changes, I did everything I could to provide it and even offered for the repair shop to verify the records directly.

Despite my cooperation, Kia Canada’s warranty department denied my claim, stating the vehicle had not been serviced correctly. What disappointed me even more was the dealership’s response. Rather than advocating for a long-time loyal customer, I was repeatedly told that the warranty decision was “final” and that there was nothing they could do.

The most frustrating part was the complete lack of customer advocacy. Instead of fighting for a customer who has supported their business for years, the focus quickly shifted to returning the loaner vehicle and asking me to decide whether I would pay over $14,000 for an engine replacement.

I escalated the issue to Kia Canada, hoping for an independent review. Unfortunately, Kia Canada simply referred the matter back to the dealership, and the dealership responded by saying they still could not help because they could not override the warranty department’s decision. I felt like I was being sent in circles, with no one taking ownership or trying to find a fair solution.

Customer loyalty clearly means very little here. After years of supporting this dealership and recommending Kia to others, I expected much better communication, stronger customer advocacy, and at least a genuine effort to resolve the issue.

This experience has completely changed my opinion of both Kia of Newmarket and Kia Canada’s customer service. If you are considering buying a Kia because of its warranty, be aware that when a major issue arises, you may find yourself fighting alone.

I sincerely hope no other customer has to go through the same experience.

NO FREE CHARGER PROVIDED

Bought a new EV3 on the proviso that this came with a free charger and free installation. When signing the forms I was told I would need to switch to Energia and that they would provide us with our free charger and installation. After 2 months of essentially fighting for this the costs of public charging were simply too much and we had to bite the bullet and just go with another EV charger company who could supply and install a charger for our property. We went with NMD Electrical who were very professional unlike Circet, the company Energia use. As it turns out we had a lucky escape by leaving Energia and going back to our original supplier Electric Ireland as Energia actually have a lot of hidden fees in their billing. Read the fine print! Although the staff in Kia Liffey Valley were polite and supportive, Kia Ireland were EXTREMELY unhelpful and communication was very poor! All in all we did not receive what we were promised when we bought our new car and no effort was made by Kia to enumerate us for this. If you do not own a private wall that you can have your charger attached to and instead require a pedestal Energia will not provide you with the free charger etc. Kia do not warn you about any of this at the time of purchase which is false advertising. I will be reporting this to consumer affairs.

Poor Delivery of Kia Cars

I signed a lease contract with Select Leasing in Feb 26 to have delivery of a Kia Sportage by mid June 26.
As of today 29th June 2026, I am being advised by the dealer it is still in port and unlikely to come to them till 13th July 2026 meaning i am likely to get delivery on 16th July 2026. The problem apparently is Kia transport has a massive backlog in delivering cars to dealers. This has resulted in me having to hire a lease car for over 5 weeks and will cost me over £1000.
I have just spoken to Kia Customer Services who were unaware of a problem with delivery of Kia cars.
I said I want to speak to someone more senior and she said please hold. I then waited 25 minutes and no one came back to me. Very poor customer service and delivery. I assure you my next car will not be a Kia!!!!

Osborne Park Kia, Perth, WA

Osborne Park Kia, Perth, WA.
Posting this review after a genuinely disappointing experience today 16 June 2026. When I booked my logbook service, the receptionist clearly informed me that courtesy drop‑offs were available. However, on the day of my appointment, I was suddenly told that “Kia doesn’t do drop‑offs anymore,” despite my home being only a six‑minute drive away.

If the service has been discontinued, I can understand that, especially with the petrol prices — but what I cannot accept is being given incorrect information at the time of booking. Had I been told the truth, I would have arranged for my wife to pick me up. Instead, I was left inconvenienced because of misinformation.

What made the situation worse was the inconsistency among staff. When I asked others employees, half of them weren’t even sure whether the drop‑off service still existed. The driver who dropped me off said he has no idea at all. It gave the impression that they simply couldn’t be bothered and chose to give whatever answer was easiest in the moment.

For a company as large as Kia, this lack of clarity and integrity is unacceptable. Customers who choose to service their vehicles with you deserve honesty, consistency, and basic professionalism. As loyal, paying customers, we expect better.

Avoid this brand

Avoid this brand. Kia excels at passing the blame between dealerships so no one takes responsibility for vehicle defects. My experience has been absolutely shocking.

The Dealer Runaround: The first Kia dealer diagnosed my car's defect but refused warranty repairs because they weren't the selling dealer. I took the car and their official diagnostic report to my original selling dealer, but they refused to recognize their own brand's report! They demanded I pay out of pocket to diagnose it all over again.

Refusal to Escalate: Front desk staff at the selling dealership actively blocked me from speaking to a manager, simply repeating that I had to pay out of pocket to fix it.

Corporate Enabling Blame-Shifting: Kia Australia Corporate flatly stated they will not mediate or discuss disputes between customers and franchise dealers. They completely ignore notices and complaints.

Do not let them oversell their warranty or customer service to you!

Horrible Warranty Service

We bought a Telluride new in the fall of 2022 and have had it for 3.5 years and have approx. 55k miles on the car. The car has been in the shop for warranty work multiple times with the longest 2 occasions lasting almost 3 mo & 2 mo respectively. The first time Kia assisted at the end with a courtesy payment for rental car reimbursement, inconvenience, etc. The last time, ~2 mo, in the shop, I requested the same payment and after a month or two I get a short email stating that since they paid me before that I was ineligible for a 2nd payment. Just horrible customer service during both occasions and to be told at the end was a slap in the face, the dealer was no help either. So a quick recap, had car 3.5 years and its been in the shop multiple time with the longest 2 occasions last approx. 5 months in the shop combined.

£250 excess voucher is a scam

I purchased a KIA from their Ely branch last year.

After the sale the salesman said that as part of the deal I would be entitled to a free £250 excess refund if I had an accident.

Unfortunately I had an accident recently and contacted KIA Aftercare which is a company called Kindertons to use my voucher and firstly found their staff there very blunt and rude over the phone.

I normally choose Go Compare who offer a £250 excess refund but didn’t use them as I had the excess voucher so went with AXA which had a £400 excess.

For over a month I tried to get Kindertons to contact AXA but nobody bothered.

In the end I sent a complaint email in and then spoke to a manager.

During the conversation I asked him if there would be any penalty for using KIA aftercare and the voucher and he told me that AXA would increase their excess to £600 if I used their services.

I asked why this was not explained when I purchased the car and when I’d spoken to four customer services agents at Kindertons and didn’t get a straight answer.

My advice to anybody out there reading this review is to not use the KIA excess voucher as it’s a con and very misleading to KIA customers.

My last two car purchases have been KIA’s but after this experience I will never purchase a KIA again nor will anybody else in my family.

I am now left with a £400 excess charge.

Thanks a lot KIA/Kindertons.

I will be escalating this complaint to Trading Standards

Thinking about buying a Kia

Thinking about buying a Kia? You might want to reconsider.

My 2021 Kia Niro has just suffered a major mechanical failure at under 70,000 miles — including a clutch system issue serious enough to require transmission removal. This is not normal wear and tear for a 5-year-old vehicle.

Even worse, the customer service experience has been extremely frustrating: long delays, conflicting information, and little to no communication from the dealership.

A car is a major investment, and reliability matters. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to think twice before choosing Kia.

Disappointed Beyond Words – Kia EV Experience

Buying a Kia EV has been one of the most disappointing decisions we’ve made. Our vehicle broke down unexpectedly and was off the road for nearly 20 days, causing major disruption to our daily life—especially during the holiday period. Despite the car being relatively new and under warranty, we were left scrambling for transportation, paying out of pocket for rentals and fuel.

What’s even more frustrating than the breakdown itself was Kia’s customer service. Communication was painfully slow, emails went unanswered, multiple cases had to be opened, and in the end we were told that no reimbursement would be provided for rental or fuel expenses. Hearing “there’s nothing we can do” after weeks of stress was heartbreaking.

An EV is supposed to bring peace of mind and confidence in the brand. Instead, we were left feeling ignored, undervalued, and regretting our decision to choose Kia. If this is how customers are treated when something goes wrong with a new vehicle, potential buyers deserve to know before making the same mistake.

Think carefully before purchasing a Kia EV—the technology may look good on paper, but customer support when it matters most is severely lacking.
