Free trial. Extra charges no refund.

I signed up for a free trial to see if it was worth the price. After the free trial, I cancelled and was charged a fee ($24). Okay whatever. But again I cancelled the subscription/account entirely after the charge. However by doing so, they charged me ANOTHER $27 for cancelling!!? So now I’m out over $50 for a FREE TRIAL incident!!!! SHAME ON THEM FOR MONEY GOUGING!!

Stolen Information as I never used any of these websites. How did they get personal information? They deny it.

They committed fraud by creating an account with my parents and grandparents names although I had never signed to their services. I received an email stating changes to their policies. Thats how I found out. BEWARE OF their practices and stealing information. I spoke with a rep who told me I was not a member. So why would they have personal info and my email? YOU ARE FRAUDS.

the worst genealogy site on the internet for searching records.

I subscribe to Ancestry, but only use it for my tree & for DNA. If you,re thinking that youre going to search their records & find your ancestors with this site, you,ll be disappointed. You put in the name, area, age etc in the search & it gives you completely different names & ages of people living in other parts of the world, you,ll never get what you,ve searched for...so you alter the paremeters to narrow the search, and it gives you zero results & says that your search is too narrow. Even if you just alter the parameters a tiny bit, you get this message. I wrote a similar review a couple of years back & Ancestry sent me 2 links to show me how to search. They were in a foreign language that I couldnt understand, but after searching, I found the english version. I then followed it exactly...but nothing changed, so I telephones Ancestry customer services, and the lady tried using the details that I gave her...she got the exact same...either completely different people from different parts of the world, or zero results if she tried to narrow the search. I,ve given up even trying to access records with Ancestry as its just too frustrating.

Hi there. We completely understand how exhausting it is when the search engine feels like it’s working against you rather than for you. It is incredibly frustrating to feel stuck between results that are far too broad and the "zero results" message that comes with narrowing things down even slightly. We aim for our search algorithms to be flexible enough to catch spelling variations, but we hear you loud and clear that, in your case, it’s missing the mark and creating a circular, disappointing experience.

It’s especially disheartening to hear that even after following our guides and speaking with a representative, the results didn't improve. When the search is acting this way, it sometimes helps to use the "Exact" checkboxes specifically for dates or locations to lock them in, but we realize you’ve already put a lot of effort into following the rules exactly as written. Your feedback about the search parameters and the language barrier you previously encountered is very valuable, and we appreciate you sticking with us for your tree and DNA even while the records search has been such a source of stress.

Hi there, Craig. We are very sorry to hear about the difficulty you’ve had with the cancellation process and the frustration regarding the continued charges. It is never our intention to make ending a subscription a complicated or stressful experience.

While we understand you have already taken steps through your bank, we want to ensure this is resolved permanently on our end as well. If you have been unable to cancel through the website, it may be due to an active session error or cancellation that didn't finalize; we recommend ensuring you receive a "Cancellation Successful" email, as this is the definitive proof that the auto-renewal has been stopped.

Regarding the secondary charge, please reach out to our support team directly. If a payment was taken after a cancellation attempt, our agents can investigate the transaction numbers and, in many cases, process a refund for charges made in error. We take your feedback seriously and are committed to making sure your account is handled correctly.

I ordered one test and paid with credit card everything perfect. One day later I decided to order another test. I paid with the same credit card. The paiment was successfull but on the website it said not successfull. I tried to contact ancestry but never got a reply. The test costs 70 euros and they seem to be lost because nobody responds.
Update 01.06.2026:
In the end the problem has been solved. The results of the test were very acurate. Ancestory even found out the exact location I am living. Since I am carribean the results were very interesting and showed the history of colonisation. And I was surprized were my ancestores came from. Thanks for this.

Hi Michel. We very sorry to hear about the trouble you've had with your second order. It is definitely concerning when a payment is processed but the website doesn't reflect the success, and we understand how frustrating it is to feel like you're not getting a response after spending 70 euros.

To help resolve this, we recommend checking your email (including your spam folder) for a confirmation or a transaction ID, as this will be vital for our team to track the payment.

Since you haven't received a reply yet, please try reaching out to us by using the "chat" feature on our support page during business hours; typing "Agent" into the chat can often help you bypass the automated system to speak with someone directly. We want to make sure your second test is processed correctly or your money is returned, so please give us another chance to track down that transaction for you.

Hi Czokobo and thank you for reaching out to us. We're sorry for any distress and disappointment this charge has caused. We just wanted to clarify that we only charge a cancellation fee if you subscribe to a semi annual or annual subscription but opt to pay it monthly. In doing so, you are committing to the entire length of your subscription and so if you choose to cancel before the end of the 6 months/ 12 months, a cancellation fee applies. Cancellation fees are the lesser of (i) $25 for 6-month subscriptions or $50 for 12-month subscriptions (plus any applicable taxes) or (ii) the remaining cost of your subscription. We have linked our Renewal and Cancellation Terms below for your convenience. Please note that we also offer a monthly, semi-annual and annual subscription which are paid upfront and there is no cancellation fee for cancelling these.

Please see our Terms and Conditions for more information: https://www.ancestry.com/cs/legal/renewal-cancellation-terms

We hope this helps clear up any confusion around our policy and again are sorry for the frustration the charge has caused.

Locked features after Update.

Generally pretty good, but I don't like that they locked things like "DNA by Parent" which used to be free, randomly required payment now, even tho it was free before. no more than three.

I never received a result. Waste of money.

I have sent the sample around two months ago, and I never received a result back. So I should assume that I will never receive a result. I consider the order to anchor tree as a waste of money or end time. Very deceiving. I should recommend to anyone reading this not to trust the company. If you cannot produce a result within two months, you probably don’t know the business of analyzing DNA. Or else you aim at keeping the money without doing any work.

Hello Ralph, thank you for contacting us on here. We’re sorry to hear that you haven’t received your results yet.

Unfortunately, your message doesn’t mention whether you received a confirmation that your sample arrived at our lab. DNA processing usually takes around 6–8 weeks after the lab has received and scanned your samples, so at a period of 2 months you would still be in our standard processing time. If you haven’t received a confirmation that your test arrived at the lab, please contact our support team - they can check the status and, if necessary, arrange a free replacement kit for you.

Please send a direct message to our customer service team via the following link: https://support.ancestry.de/s/email-us

It was easy to use, was delivered quickly. It was processed very fast, but my main problem with the test that's it's very general. I didn't get any subregions. But I know they will be updated. In general, very interesting experience!

4/23/2025

4/23/2025 - Ancestry.com makes it so that you have to do a combined trail bundle, essentially, with Newspapers.com and Earthview. Ancestry makes it convenient to sign up for all three right there together.

However, the same is not true of canceling that free trial. I have a 14-day free trial that began on 4/15/2025, and have been since 4/16/025 trying to figure out how to cancel. Ancestry.com should make it as simple to cancel as they did to sign up. It feels like it's skating on the thin ice of being a scam.

There is no precise information

There is no precise information. Just the fact, that I came from certain country, tells me that I have 99% of these genes. And it’s heterogeneous, really diverse with nationalities place. So, i wouldn’t recommend to lose money with this service/App/genetic test

Dear Ancestry Team,

Dear Ancestry Team,

I recently received my DNA test results and wanted to share some feedback. While I appreciate the effort put into providing a comprehensive breakdown, I was disappointed to see that the Anatolia and Caucasus regions were combined into one category.

As someone with 93% ancestry from this region, I was hoping for a more detailed breakdown to learn about my roots on a deeper level. Unfortunately, the combined category didn’t provide any new insights, as I already knew of my connection to this general area.

I would encourage Ancestry to consider offering more granular regional data, especially for those of us with a significant percentage of ancestry in such broad regions. This would greatly enhance the value of the service and the customer experience.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hello Angela, thank you very much for your kind review.

We understand your disappointment that specific regions such as Anatolia and Caucasus are currently not listed individually. Often historical border shifts and numerous migrations make it difficult to clearly categorise individual countries until we find clear indicators of specific people's characteristics. For this reason, some categories include larger areas such as ‘Central and Eastern Europe’ or ‘Anatolia and Caucasus’ at the moment.

Please note that our breakdown of DNA regions is constantly evolving and we regularly update our ancestry regions based on advances in DNA science and a growing number of samples in our reference panel. With each update, we improve our analyses and add new regions, making your results even more accurate. This year alone we added 24 new ancestral regions, 54 subregions, 64 African ethnic groups, 266 Germanic Europe communities and more for improved granularity of our results.

You can find the complete overview of our current regions here: https://www.ancestry.com/c/dna/ancestry-dna-ethnicity-estimate-update

As soon as we update the regions on our platform you will be notified of any changes to your results.

We wish you continued joy and success in discovering your roots!

The results are way too broad, giving all eastern Europe and all Balkan countries. Does not give regions or separate countries, like eastern Europe is just 1 big country.

Hi Merima, thank you for your review.

We understand your disappointment that specific regions are not listed individually. Historical border shifts and numerous migrations in Europe often make it difficult to narrow down DNA differences to more precise, smaller regions and to clearly categorise individual countries. Therefore, some categories include larger areas such as ‘Central and Eastern Europe’ or ‘German-speaking regions of Europe’.

Please note that we regularly update our ancestry regions based on advances in DNA science and a growing number of samples in our reference panel. With each update, we improve our analyses and add new regions, making your results even more accurate.

We wish you continued joy and success in discovering your roots!

Scam

Biggest mistake was deciding to take the Test with them.
1- There is zero tracking of your sample you never know where the sample is.
2- The Website doesn't have an English language option.
3- The test was sent more than 6 weeks and yet nothing registered if it arrived. And when trying to request a replacement sample, it is the most complicated process ever. No form to submit and when using the chat the bot replies with the same message that the request was submitted but no number or tracking for the request zero professionalism.
4-Conclusion I paid 90 Euros for nothing.

Not recommended!

I would have rated higher, if one would be able to download the SHARED DNA parts.
The pro tool gives hints as to how a DNA match is related to me and all the others, but a downloadable file would tell far, far, far more precise who is our common ancestor.

Customer service couldn't find my order!

I ordered 3 kits on the 09.12.2023 from their website and paid with Paypal, I waited for email or confirmation but I got nothing. So on the 21.12.2023, I sent an email to their customer service to request for help. They replied with a list of questions which I responded to but instead of getting a respond back, I got the same list of questions multiple times again and again. It was very annoying because they were exactly the same questions written in the same way, you can really tell that they just have some template and they just sent it back to me multiple times instead of trying to actually help!

Yesterday the 06.02.2024, 2 months after they took my money! I finally got a confirmation email for my order saying that they will send it.
