Purchased laptop online then only option to upsell

Purchased laptop online showing in stock and 2 days later they contacted me saying it wasn't in stock and trying to up sell me to a higher priced, lesser specced laptop.

Nefarious business practise. Stay away from this company and definitely don't purchase online.

Buy our product, go away, only come back to buy again.

My experience is with the Seaford branch.
The feelings I am left with after the few dealings I've had with them, are that they will tell you any garbage to get you to buy, but do nothing to help you after the sale. Buying here is a one way ticket. My son went with his mother to get a laptop stand. At home I looked at it and told him we need to return it because it covers most of the laptop's intake vents, and that would cause overheating and throttling back. Took it back the next day and the shop said we can only get a store credit. Well, I needed a keyboard so chose one, and asked the store person if I could take it out of the box to try it first because there was no display model. No they don't allow that. I was told it's a great quality keyboard for the price. I asked if I could buy replacement wireless dongles if I ever lost the one for this keyboard/mouse combo. Was told most Logitech's have that facility, but he wasn't 100% sure. So I buy the keyboard/mouse, go home, check about the wireless dongle on the net. Nope, this one has no replacement if I lose it. The two well known Logitech wireless receivers are the Unify type and the more modern Bolt type. Clearly the "highly knowledgeable" Centrecom staff knew zippo about that, OR he just gave me BS to get me to buy and piss off. Tried the keyboard for feel and it was horrible. Smooth, slippy plastic, sloping palm rest, and the only purpose that served was to make my palms/arms slide down and back towards me. I immediately put it back in the box and took it back next day. The store person told me I can't have either a store credit or a refund. I told him I'd be happy to buy a much better keyboard at twice the price but no, tough luck. Gave me BS about keyboards are not returnable because of "hygiene" reasons. Told him I simply tried it for feel and immediately put it back in the box. Also said just about every single consumer product on the planet gets touched by hands as soon as the buyer takes it out of the box. Don't care, tough luck. A ridiculous reason, seeing as the box itself will have been handled by several people before the sale.
This store has lost the customer lifetime value from myself, my family, and everyone else I will inform about my experience. What a way of doing business.

Arrogant Management & Illegal Bait-and-Switch.

I am a high-value enthusiast customer who has spent around $10,000 with Centre Com in just the last three years alone on premium gear, including two identical high-spec RTX 5070 ti gaming laptops (32GB DDR5 RAM), 4K monitors, and high-end accessories. Despite my consistent financial loyalty, their head office management treated me with total arrogance, deceit, and complete personal disrespect regarding my purchase (Order Ref: 1942206).
On June 30, I paid $999 AUD for a limited-edition ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Keyboard. My legally binding tax invoice explicitly locked in "Shipping Method: Australia Post". Instead, their warehouse committed an illegal bait-and-switch breach of contract, covertly downgrading my shipping to a budget courier (Aramex) behind my back to cut costs. The courier completely failed to deliver it, logged fake attempts, and my mobile number was hit with fraudulent phishing scams. For nearly three full calendar months, Centre Com held my $999 hostage, completely ignoring over 10 of my customer service emails. When a senior manager from their Footscray head office finally broke silence, his lazy solution was to aggressively push me into accepting a raw refund just so they could cancel my order and dodge accountability.
The most insulting part was the calculated silent treatment. Following a formal review with Consumer Affairs Victoria (Case: C2026/09/009043), my CAV case manager instructed me to serve Centre Com with a formal legal notice under Section 36 of the ACL, giving them a strict 5-business-day deadline to resolve the matter. Head office management completely and willfully ignored this official notice for the entire 5 days. Once the deadline expired, CAV formally authorized me to escalate the dispute directly to VCAT. CAV advised me to drop one final notice into their system before filing the lawsuit. I posted the VCAT intent warning into my active support ticket, and magically, after ignoring me for weeks, manager Paulo Arandia replied on the exact same day.
This timing is an absolute joke. It proves their management team is actively sitting at their desks reading every single escalation email in real time, but they consciously choose to ignore a customer until a formal tribunal summons threatens their personal corporate metrics. When Paulo finally replied, his attitude was incredibly passive-aggressive. He never once said "sorry" or "thank you" for a three-month nightmare.
What makes their management truly pathetic is their complete lack of basic business knowledge. Everyone knows most profit margins come from retaining loyal customers. I offered a massive compromise: I stepped down from demanding a $150 bank refund and agreed to accept a $150 Centre Com store voucher instead. This meant I was willing to spend even MORE money in their store. Instead of taking this easy out, Paulo Arandia chose to "蹬鼻子上脸" (push his luck). He dug his heels in over a petty $150 credit, burning a $10k VIP relationship and throwing away my future business.
In total contrast, the local Clayton store counter staff who handled my physical collection (on 7th Oct) were absolute gentlemen, very polite, and felt terrible about my situation.
I'm planning on upgrade my 4070 Ti desktop with $12,000 cash budget saved up for RTX 60 Series when released. Because their upper management plays childish silent treatment games and alienates loyal customers over a petty $150 dispute, I am taking my entire $12,000 budget straight to Scorptec and PCCaseGear instead. I will never spend a single dollar with Centre Com again unless their corporate office can provide an explanation on how they think it's legal to bait-and-switch shipping methods, and explain how my situation is not enough for a $150 compensation with this line printed directly on their own invoice: "You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage." Buyer beware: if your package goes missing, Paulo and his team will stonewall you until you threaten to sue them.

1 star — Very disappointing experience.

I went to Centre Com looking for a 500GB NVMe SSD for my laptop. I explained what I needed to the guy at the cashier and he recommended a Lexar NQ710.

I installed it at home and immediately noticed that my laptop was much slower to boot. I put my old SSD back in and it was noticeably faster. I even tried another older SSD and it was still faster than the NQ710. I recorded a video showing the difference.

The next day, I drove about 45 minutes back to the store to ask for help. I had removed the SSD because it’s my wife’s laptop and she needs it for work. I was sent to the repair area, where I had to wait before someone finally spoke to me.

I explained the problem and told them I had a video showing the issue, but they didn’t even bother looking at it. They tested the SSD and said it was detected, so there was nothing they could do. I explained that I never said it wasn’t detected — the problem was how slow the laptop became with this SSD.

I asked what I could do and was basically told, “nothing.” I even asked, “So I’m just stuck with it?” and they said yes.

The attitude from the repair staff also made the experience worse. I drove 45 minutes back to the store expecting some help, but instead I left feeling like I was just being a nuisance.

Very poor customer service. I definitely won’t be buying computer parts from Centre Com again.

Awful experience

Just had an awful experience and will never shop there again.

We purchased computer fans for about $200 from the Macgregor store. These did not work out the box, intermittently turned on and off (fans and the LED lights) and we found that problem could be easily replicated by wiggling the wire that went into the controller. Obviously a wiring or connection issue.

I took them straight back to the store, they would not do anything without testing them - and said they had no way to test them. They sent me to their Springwood store, and guaranteed me that the technician at the Sprinwood store would test them straight away and replace or refund. Driving to the Springwood store and back in rushhour traffic took about 90 mins. The treatment I received at the Springwood store was disgusting. I got as far as saying the fans were faulty, but then just got talked over and told it was my fault, I had not set them up right etc - there was absolutely no interest in listening to what the actual problem or symptoms were. I tried several times to talk and describe the issue but he just talked over me every time. He said he could not test them that day, and when I said the Macgregor store had guaranteed me that this would happen, he was then quite abusive towards the Macgregor staff. He 'booked them in' and I had to leave them with him to be tested the next day, and he said he would call as soon as he had tested them.

I had not heard anything by 2pm the next day, called the Springwood store who were surprised I had not been contacted and said they had been tested and found to be faulty and shorting out, and I then had to chase a refund.

Overall I'm very unhappy at how I was treated, how I was spoken to, how much of my own time was needed to sort out this issue,, and basically how I was made to feel like I was the one at fault throughout the process.

I would not recommend anyone buys anything from Centre Com.

-⭐️ Avoid if buying premium tech

-⭐️ Avoid if buying premium tech. Unlawful customer service and zero accountability.

Extremely disappointed with Centre Com’s complete disregard for the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

I bought a flagship, top-of-the-line ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo laptop from them. Recently, the unit suffered a catastrophic motherboard failure (total loss of power). Under the ACL, statutory consumer guarantees do not just vanish when a manufacturer’s warranty ends; they are based on reasonable durability. For a premium, flagship laptop, a dead motherboard after 4 years is a textbook "major failure."

When I approached Centre Com to remedy this, they completely tried to "fob me off" to the manufacturer to protect their own margins. First, they gave me an absurd quote of over $2,700, and then they tried to dump me onto ASUS’s third-party repair network, which resulted in another ridiculous quote of $1,562.

Under Australian law, the retailer is legally obligated to provide the remedy (repair, replacement, or refund) for a major failure. They cannot legally pass the buck or force the customer to negotiate with the manufacturer.

Despite being a loyal customer who has spent over $22,000 on PC tech across my household, Centre Com has chosen to dodge their legal responsibilities. I have formally escalated this issue and am currently preparing my filing for the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) to force compliance.

If you expect a retailer to honor consumer guarantees on high-end hardware when things go wrong, SHOP ELSEWHERE.

Happy with the service and product provided

I recently bought a Samsung Pro 8tb ssd for extra storage space for my PS5. I found the customer service to be excellent particularly from Chris. He kept me informed as to when my product was ready for delivery and rang me to let me know it was on its way. I found the service to be professional. I am also happy with the product i received.

Do not order online from centrecom

Do not order online from centrecom. I had purchased multiple pc parts, and one item didn't arrive. After waiting a few days, I emailed their online customer service to see if it was still coming to me. Turns out, the item was not in stock, and I was never notified that it was never being sent out to begin with! It is extra frustrating that that was the only item that required shipping, as all my other parts could have been collected at my local store. This is an ongoing issue with Centrecom, as shared in several other reviews and friends' experiences. They are very comfortable taking your money but will not compensate you when they do wrong. Stay away.

Very bad handling of customers' belongings

Lodged in an RMA for my Astral GPU because of dead lighting array. Expected to take only around 2-3 weeks of process. Ended up with more than 5 weeks without a GPU for work. Staff specifically told me to return all the original accessories and box (For what? Testing them too??), and I complied anyway, also specifically told them to return every item back once finished. Every customer would expect careful handling along with original state of the items shipped back to them. Eventually, the box that I tried to keep it as pristine as possible for showcase, is torn like an injured animal, and my day is ruined. No love for tech and things related, these staffs are not professional as they claim to be. Will not buy from them anymore as long as it is possible, since they treat RMA tech as garbage.

Amazing helpful staff

Incredibly helpful staff at the Springwood store - in particular Jermaine, who basically took nearly an hour to help my 13 year old son build a PC from the parts we had bought from the store a couple of days earlier. My son ran in trouble connecting everything up and Jermaine basically finished it all off for him and wouldn't accept any money or anything. Absolute legend and so very grateful!

They became defensive when I lodged a warranty claim after explaining that the docking station intermittently fails and stops working.
Instead of addressing the issue, they asked me to bring in the laptop so they could diagnose it. Do they really expect customers to take time off work just to troubleshoot a faulty docking station?
Very disappointing service from the Centre Com Pulteney Street store.

Waste of $6,000

I spent more than $6,000 on a computer from Centre Com, and it hasn't worked properly since I received it. After trying some things a sales rep asked me to do in order to narrow down the issue, the computer completely shut off without warning and was unresponsive for 10+ mins. I don't know if what the sales rep suggested is what caused it to shut off on me, but it didn't do that before I did what they asked me to. Now I'm supposed to send it back and be without a computer for 3+ weeks because of this, which isn't really possible for me since I need to use a computer for tasks. I just have to hope it doesn't decide to die again.

Purchased a new Gigabyte motherboard…

Purchased a new Gigabyte motherboard from these frauds on Friday 29th May. I contacted them yesterday to inform them that I have a dead board. I was advised to take itinto the store and they will see what needs to be done. I took the board in this morning and the board was inspected behind a wall and I couldn't see what was happening. The technition came out shortly after and told me there were dead pins on the proccessor slot. He then said that this was user damage and that it was out of warranty. I know for a fact that the pins were fine when I took it in so what did they do behind the wall? I now effectivly now have a boat anchor and am out of pocket to the tune of $200.

I have now purchased my last product from these frauds and once the warranty claim on the dead RTX5060 they sold me is sorted out I will be closing my account and purchasing my computer parts elsewhere.
