1) Went to work and someone else’s details were logged in to our devices.
2) Take Payments were charging us double fees on both our accounts for years, they backdated to December with the refund. Acknowledging there has been a human error. but not before this. So I have been overcharged for years and now I am getting no response.
I worked out we paid around 1.9% last year- when we are contracted much much less.
I honestly would not go with takepayments in future, and neither should you if you want a smooth experience with no hidden fees, and good customer service.

Great service from Dominique today, efficient thorough and very friendly.
Zac Ackroyd - star man, thank you.
Had some issues with both terminals, called Takepayments and Zak answered our call, he was informative, patient (i'm not the easiest to deal with), knowledgeable and really helpful, turned out to be a Barclays issue and not a terminal one, jake offered to end the call while he was on hold to Barclays and call back, within minutes he had called back and went through a few steps with our machines, they now seem to be working fine.
Thank you so much Zak.

This machine has not worked since I…
This machine has not worked since I received it. Take payments keeps passing the buck the Elavon - have to call them every week to ‘update’ the software. Never seems to get repaired yet they are happy to keep taking payments from me. Spoke to a sarcastic’James’ who enjoyed telling me I’m in contract so I can’t cancel but they can upgrade me to another crap product with another contract attached to it.
Awful company, rude staff, faulty equipment, please avoid this company!!

We have found this service very reliable, at realistic rates. Maintaining PCI compliance is extremely easy with the support provided. This year, Rachel Tuplin excelled in this regard, providing exemplary customer hand-holding with pleasant efficiency.
Warning – this company is a bunch of bandits
I had a sales agent come out to my home to go through what services 'Take Payments' could offer my business. We discussed the options available and agreed on a handheld 4/5G EPOS system, an online payment system, and a website package.
We were told, flat out, that the payment terminal did not require Wi-Fi to function. The line we were fed was, "after all, you are paying for the 5G, you should not be paying for Wi-Fi on top." It was a lie, dressed up as reassurance, designed to close the sale.
We were also told that once the paperwork was signed, someone from the website team would be in touch within the week to start building the site, and that we'd have unlimited amendments and changes to the site both during the build and once it was live.
None of it was true. Every single promise made to get our signature was worthless the moment the ink dried.
We had issues with the handheld EPOS system from day one. The unit was replaced once, and the SIM card was replaced once. The terminal repeatedly disconnected from the 4/5G network, leaving us unable to take payments in our own shop. Since we had deliberately not installed Wi-Fi — on the strength of what we'd been promised — the terminal was completely dead. Not fit for purpose for four months.
It took hours of calls and multiple complaint emails to the CEO, before we finally got an answer. It turned out 'Take Payments' had simply never activated the SIM card. Basic incompetence that cost us months of trading.
Next came the failure of the 'contact us' page on our website — utterly pointless when messages sent through it never reached our inbox. We went back and forth, and again it came down to negligence on their part: they never sent us the configuration or password details needed to set it up on our own machines. When they eventually handed over the login details, months later, we discovered we had missed over 40 inquiries — all silently lost. The financial loss came to just over £14,000. We were then put in the humiliating position of having to contact every one of these people individually to apologise for a failure that was entirely 'Take Payments'' doing. To this day we still cannot receive notifications and are forced to manually check a back-end login instead.
I raised a formal complaint, addressed directly to CEO, who did not have the basic decency to even acknowledge it. The complaint handler, Derryn Palmer, achieved nothing — the process dragged on for an unreasonable length of time and remains unresolved. The product does not work. It has never properly worked. It is not fit for purpose.
As "compensation," they offered two months' free website hosting and three months' free EPOS terminal rental, later stretched to six. But to receive any of it, we had to reinstate the direct debit. Derryn Palmer personally promised me that no payments would be taken until the free periods ended — December for the website, April 2023 for the terminal. That promise was worthless too: the moment the direct debit was reinstated, 'Take Payments' took two payments straight out of my account regardless. The direct debits have since been cancelled for good.
Through all of this, 'Take Payments' has never once admitted fault, never acknowledged they are in clear breach of contract, and never shown a shred of accountability. They are, without exaggeration, the most dishonest and contemptible company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I have served notice and count the days until I never have to deal with them again.
My advice: read the reviews for yourself. They are damning. And look closely at the pattern — the moment a negative review goes up, a cluster of glowing positive ones appears right behind it, almost always from accounts that have never left a review before or since. That is not a coincidence; it has the hallmarks of a company manufacturing its own reputation. I've since spoken to a former employee who confirmed this is standard practice there. Staff communications are abrupt, rude, and dishonest as a matter of course.
Avoid 'Take Payments' entirely. They are not cheap, they will nickel-and-dime you at every turn, they will lie to get your signature, and once you're in, getting out is a fight.
