Title: Unprofessional behavior and financial loss caused by BYD Brazil and DX Company
I was selected by the agency DX Company to work as a test drive driver for a new BYD vehicle in Brazil for nearly three months. Based on this confirmed agreement, I canceled my entire work schedule and declined other contracts, resulting in immediate financial loss. One day before starting, DX Company scheduled a meeting with BYD’s Chinese executives. The agency gave wrong technical instructions about the meeting link, causing a connection failure. Instead of providing support or rescheduling as promised, BYD and DX Company suddenly canceled my participation on the very same day, claiming that BYD chose an internal driver instead. This lack of organization, terrible communication, and complete lack of respect caused me a severe financial injury. BYD and its partner agency showed zero responsibility towards a professional who cleared his schedule for them. Today I am just a driver harmed by your process, but I could have been a future customer. Terrible experience with BYD Brazil’s management
Not great quite abrupt
Absolutely shocking behavior from BYD UK, very rude and confrontational by someone named Simon Bisp - that's not how you meant to treat people you need to learn some social skills and be more respectful ! wouldn't get a BYD purely due to this reason !
Come on UK people
Come on UK people, don’t buy Chinese rubbish cars. You can see lots of Chinese videos saying how problematic the Chinese cars are. Don’t buy the cars because of cheap price and some fancy features
Two BYDs, two very disappointing experiences – SEAL UDMI and SEALION 7
Unfortunately, my experience with BYD has been extremely disappointing and has left me with very little confidence in the brand or my current vehicle.
My problems actually began with my previous BYD SEAL UDMI. Within just two days of taking delivery, I discovered issues with the paintwork/paint contamination which were significant enough that I rejected the vehicle. The rejection was ultimately accepted.
Despite that experience, I decided to give BYD another chance and subsequently entered into a three-year contract hire agreement for a new BYD SEALION 7, which I collected in March 2026.
Unfortunately, I have experienced a considerable number of problems with software issues.
These have included faults with the rear tailgate, air conditioning, steering lock malfunction, gear lag, driver monitoring system failure alerts. There have also been issues with the window anti-trap safety function. On one occasion, while I was driving with my arm resting out of the window, both windows closed automatically without any input from me. I had not touched the window controls or operated anything that should have caused them to close. My arm was consequently trapped by the closing window, which was extremely concerning, particularly given that the anti-trap safety function should prevent this from happening. This was consequently reviewed and reset by the garage.
However, by far the most concerning issue has been unexpected automatic braking, sometimes referred to as “ghost braking”. The vehicle has braked when I have not expected it to, including in situations where I consider this could potentially create a safety risk.
I reported the problem and the behaviour was subsequently experienced during a test drive with a BYD technician. I was advised that a software update was awaited, and, in the meantime, I was advised to disable the relevant collision-warning/driver-assistance function each time I drove the vehicle.
For me, being told to disable a safety/driver-assistance feature every time I use a relatively new vehicle is simply not an acceptable long-term solution.
This second experience is particularly disappointing because, having already rejected one BYD, I deliberately chose to give the manufacturer another opportunity. I am now left in a three-year contract for a second BYD in which I have lost confidence.
I have spent a considerable amount of time reporting faults, chasing responses and trying to get matters investigated and resolved. The situation has caused significant inconvenience and has taken away the confidence and enjoyment I should have had from a new vehicle.
The matter has now escalated to the Financial Ombudsman Service, and I have agreed to an independent inspection of the SEALION 7.
I appreciate that other BYD owners may have had completely different experiences, but this review reflects my own experience of two separate BYD vehicles. Having experienced significant problems with both a SEAL and a SEALION 7, I personally find it very difficult to recommend the brand.
A new vehicle should provide confidence, reliability and peace of mind. Unfortunately, my experience with BYD has been the opposite.
I will update this review if and when the outstanding issues are satisfactorily resolved.
Chinese cars no service after sale specially parts
A bought i new byd Sealion 7 and unfortunately I had an accident and took my car for repair. For one month that garage order parts from China as byd don't stock any part in uk and till now no definite date to receive those parts. China is selling millions of cars around the world but they do not care about customers after sale. Please do not buy any Chinese cars as it is causing a lot of stress if things goes wrong.
Abysmal service from this garage
Abysmal service from this garage. I contacted the garage about a car and was promptly sent a very good video, I replied and said I’d like to reserve the car on Autotrader and BYD phoned and said it’s better to reserve directly with them so I paid £99 to reserve. Later that day the salesman phoned to try and get me to purchase a paintwork preserving product, initially for £500 to which I said I had no interest in. They then said what about for £230 and I said I’d speak to my husband and get back to them, the salesman said okay I’ll ring in 30 minutes so I had to quickly contact my husband at work to ask him and of course he also had no interest in the product, which I then told the salesman and all of this pressuring happened before I’d even seen the car in real life!
I had the test drive booked for a Saturday but had to contact them to ask them to do the test drive Sunday instead as I’d had a family emergency and was told by the receptionist that she didn’t have access to the salesman’s appointments but she’d tell him the next day. This message was obviously never passed to the salesman because he rang on Saturday expecting the test drive to still happen so I explained we couldn’t come and asked to do it Sunday instead. He said they don’t have enough staff working on Sundays to do test drives! The salemesman asked when we could next do and I said my husband would have to check his work commitments, the next day he could do was the coming Wednesday and the salesman said “oh no, that’s not going to work for us either”, then proceeded to pressure me to go on Monday when I’d already said we couldn’t do Monday. We got off the phone and just thought, if we’ve had this much pressure and inflexibility buying a car what are they going to be like to deal with in person or if we had any problems with the car after purchasing. We decided to go and look at another car on Sunday as we wanted to with BYD and we ended up buying that vehicle. So I emailed the salesman to ask for a refund of the deposit and received no reply.
I waited a week and emailed the salesman again and was ignored again. Once I reached the 2 week mark I emailed the salesman, Royston mantles, byd Europe and byd global. Finally I got a response and an email with a refund receipt so in the end it took 16 days to get the money refunded. This service is so dismal it’s put me off BYD as a whole and I would not deal with the Royston dealership or any other BYD garage if this is the amount of pressurising, inflexibility and incompetence they treat their customers with

I had been to BYD service center in gaurighata service center to install the app I found the lady dealing with me Ms Sujata was very friendly, very cooperative and caring.
BYD customer service
BYD customer service. Very bad expereince with BYD purchase. We bought BYD sealion 7 at dealership and the next day they start selling at $54990 drive away.
We purchased it for $619900 drive away a day before.
We don't have trust in the brand and would not recommend this Chinese company to others.
UNSAFE!
Unfortunately I cannot give 0 or negative stars.
Not only were our FLT's faulty from the start, the customer service has been consistently awful and has now escalated to downright rude. Totally unprofessional behaviour, extremely unsafe vehicles with issues on all that are still unresolved.
Went in today looking to replace 3…
Went in today looking to replace 3 vehicles through our company (2 BYD Sharks + 1 BYD Sealion 6 — an order worth over R2.5 million) and asked for a salesman, Mpumi, whom I'd dealt with last year. He refused to help, telling me: "Don't talk to me, I don't want to help you because last year you were unhappy. Why don't you speak to your Indian friend over there" — pointing at another salesman.
I've never had a car salesman turn away a multi-vehicle fleet order, let alone with a comment like that directed at a colleague. Completely unprofessional and disappointing for a dealership of this size. Went elsewhere for the sale. If you're looking for a BYD dealer that actually wants your business, I'd look elsewhere too.
After a test drive in a number of new…
After a test drive in a number of new models I think these cars are exactly what you would expect from china. Temu quality springs to mind and that's not a good thing. I've tried other new models from other new Chinese car manufacturers and they are all the same when it comes to build quality. In my opinion anyone who decides to actually purchase one of these budget vehicles really does need their heads examined. To place your families safety in a BYD is something I just would not do primarily because of the fact that it's a cheaply constructed vehicle and taking one on a test drive clearly shows huge difference in ride and handling. Then there's the BYD battery degradation in the electric and hybrid models and reliability issues and showing themselves already. It's simple and obvious, these Chinese cars are a false economy and all those people who have bought them will realise very early on that they have made a costly mistake by basically buying a Temu vehicle that will depreciate like a stone and encounter problems from very early on in ownership.
Cancelled Test Drives
Second time I've tried to arrange a test drive with BYD, and unfortunately the experience has been disappointing on both occasions.
Two different branches, same outcome where my test drive was cancelled within 24 hours. This time, the test drive was cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice and preicously when i arrived.
If this is how they treat potential sales, it causes concern for how they treat existing customers with potential car related issues.
From my experience, the booking process and communication across BYD dealerships seem inconsistent, which has made arranging a simple test drive more difficult than it should be. Other car dealerships have called to be helpful, booked in and followed up, they will get the business not the company that cancels and doesnt accomdate.
Chester branch lies and not returning calls
We wanted to test drive a vehicle in CHESTER and was told it wasn’t on site until the next day because the staff that had it wasn’t in. We rang next day and were told it wasn’t in the workshop and they would ring us. Another day passed. Then we rang again and they said it was sold! We said we would still like one and waited two days for a call back and it never happened. We rang again today and even though the staff member had our number and was present they were always busy. So thumbs down from us. Imagine if you had to resolve a problem with a car you bought from them?
Fictitious test drive!
Booked my test drive online. Arrived for my test drive to be told that the garage doesn’t have any byd cars.
What an utter waste of time and effort
Just bot our 1st BYD car
Just bot our 1st BYD car . Office was impressive & clean but the salesman named Denny who served us were late & came looking like he just had a whole night of clubbing outside . While other customers whose gifts were already laid on table long before their arrival , Denny came late only to try to scramble to find the welcome gifts for us . Moreover, his bad breath was so bad - perhaps agould at least brush or wear a mask . The whole 2 hrs of explanation was rubles of his bad breath filled with coffee. His attitude was subpar and when there was a phone call, he should at least excuse himself or tell the caller to call back later.
When BYD customer service officer call, he took the phone over through loudspeaker & rated himself 10 out of 10. Is not even our feedback .
BYD should just find a new replacement. I probably won’t buy another BYD car coz of his poor working attitude .
2025 Completely already dead in 2026
I purchased a BYD and two days later it died. No dashboard, no lights, no locks, completely dead. BYD said it was covered under warranty and that I get four free tows . First, they said they would call and let me know when they were coming to tow the car. No one called but the next day they said they sent someone but that I didn't answer the door; which is a lie because we were here all day with the door open and maintenance crew working on our house. Then they said it would cost me $50 to get the tow truck because it died in my driveway and not on the street. Then they said they could not test the 12 V battery before they towed it to the dealership because it would nullify the warranty. Now they say they ran all the tests and there's nothing wrong with the car, I should come pick it up! Notice all the terrible reviews already posted… BYD does not care at all.

Aftersale
Great cars, until something goes wrong and then buyer beware. To put things into context I’ve spent 20 years + in the motor industry working for Audi, BMW and JLR, all of which have had their problems but BYD is on another level.
Car developed a problem, called up AA came out car had to be recovered. STRAIGHT FORWARD SO FAR.
Trying to get in touch with the people to sort the loan car out, BECAUSE ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO IT, is a NIGHTMARE.
When you do get finally through you need to agree to their terms and conditions here’s a small selection as follows. By the way they use THRIFTY.
1, £350 excess on insurance with a £35 per day extra charge (that is not to reduce the excess)
2, 70 mile daily limit, if you go over this then the car hire company THIRFTY, don’t charge you an excess mileage charge. What they do is put you on a list (DNR:- Do Not Rent). Which means you will no longer be eligible for a loan car in future, if your car develops another problem.
3, £1 + charge per KW if it’s an electric car
4, 30% charge over current fuel prices if you don’t replace the fuel.
5, Drivers licence AND A UTILITY BILL when they drop the car off.
Believe it or not this is the short version. I have spent so far 2 days and unlimited phone calls and still no further on.
I have honestly never had or witnessed such poor customer service in all my time in the motor trade. It’s embarrassing, and the way you are made to feel because you question a question is outrageous.
HONESTLY, the after sale when something goes wrong is just disgraceful
Will never buy a BYD
The BYD instore experience was very underwhelming, sales people were not interested that we want to buy a car. The car interior felt cheap plastic like a happy meal toy, with a small tablet slapped on the middle. As little EV feel as possible, nothing modern about the car.
And now they're actively hiring Peter Szijjarto, the Hungarian nation's traitor, the fallen politician, the accused spy, who actively helped BYD establish a bigger foothold in Hungary. They're actually giving him a political lifeboat for his well known corruption. NO THANKS BYD.
