My wife surprised me by booking one of the Mystery Vacation packages through Groupon as an early birthday trip for us. Since our birthdays are only a few weeks apart (hers is at the end of July and mine is in August), we usually try to take a trip together every year, so this sounded like a fun way to do something different.
Prince called us within 48 hours, and I honestly can’t say enough good things about him. He was professional, incredibly patient, and never made us feel like we were just another customer. He took the time to explain how everything worked, answered every question we had, and helped us figure out the best travel dates and destination without ever making us feel pressured.
We travel quite a bit, so finding a destination we hadn’t already visited wasn’t the easiest task. Prince worked through several options with us and helped make Denver happen, even though we had to adjust our original dates. He also helped us upgrade our package while finding the best value possible.
For about $780, we ended up with round-trip airfare for two, four nights in a 4-star hotel, and a destination we’ve both been wanting to experience. That’s an outstanding deal in my book.
What impressed me the most was that Prince genuinely cared about making sure we were happy with our trip. Good customer service is getting harder and harder to find these days, but he reminded me what it should look like. He’s a huge asset to the company, and if we book another Mystery Vacation—which I’m sure we will—I won’t hesitate to ask for Prince again. He made the whole experience easy, enjoyable, and something we’re really looking forward to.

THIS IS A SCAM! There are so many hidden fees and upcharges that makes this trip extremely overpriced for what you get. If you book your own flights and accommodations, you will save yourself hundreds of dollars. I purchased 2 Gate A vouchers for $199 each. When the agent called me, they told me that my preferred airport didn't have availability and that I needed to pay an additional $50 per person to switch airports. Why would they advertise that they use a particular airport if that's not actually the case? And if they are forcing customers to change airports, we shouldn't have to pay an additional fee. Since I was given no other option, I paid to switch airports. After doing that, I was told my destination... a city within the state I live in and have visited multiple times. I was very underwhelmed so I asked if they could check another destination. I was given another destination but was told if I choose it, I will have to pay an additional $69 per person (on top of the additional fee I already had to pay to switch airports). I declined and went with the original destination. After spending nearly $500 for this trip, I looked up the cost of flights for my exact airports and dates... Round trip flights are $50 per person. So I paid 10x that for the "mystery" aspect. As far as hotels go, I don't know the exact hotel yet but I looked up options and hotels are very cheap for the dates of my trip. I could have booked this trip on my own (with my own preferred dates, not the ones they gave me) for less than half of what they charged me. I reached out to the company and expressed my concerns. I asked for a different destination or refund, neither of which they would honor. This company is unethical and has shady business practices.

Bad luck or bad service?
First, right as you receive your mystery vacation they make you leave a review. It feels like the customer service agent needs these in order to process the booking because they’ll wait on the phone. This makes a lot of the reviews a bit sketchy.
Second, the airports that I selected on the websites didn’t align with what the service agent allowed me to select as airports to fly out of. Nothing out of my city with a major airport.
Finally, my destination ended up flying me out of one of my selected airports INTO another one of the airports I selected as an airport I could fly out of. So basically I’m flying from one outbound destinations into another one of my outbound destinations.
The policy is written so you can’t dispute anything. To add, you have to buy TWO tickets. Maybe I just have bad luck. If you don’t like any of the elements of your package they charge you a premium to change it; more than if I would just book on my own.

Beware The Fine Print
We purchased a voucher through Groupon, and what is very much glossed over is the idea that you WILL NOT be getting your preferred travel dates. In order to confirm the dates outside our preferred window with my travel companion, I needed to complete a return phone call, which I did 1 business day later and now we have to pay an extra $100 per person for the same dates we were offered in the first place. This detail was NEVER mentioned while on the phone with the booking company.
Also, there are a bunch of additional "upgrades" or hidden upcharges that are sprung on you that are not included in the voucher. We were given a trip to Atlanta, but it was explained to us that in order to stay in actual Atlanta, we were going to have to pay an extra $70.
The people that I spoke with on the phone were nice enough, but the policies for this company are incredibly sneaky. If there is something in the fine print, you'd better believe that is the norm, not the exception.

Firstly, our Groupon promotion clearly explains that customers submit preferred travel dates, but these are not guaranteed departure dates. The offer specifically states that your preferred dates are used as part of the mystery vacations allocation process, after which our team works with you to confirm the closest available departure date based on airline and hotel availability. This information is displayed within both the "Travel Dates" section and the FAQs of the promotion before purchase.
Regarding the fare difference, airline prices are dynamic and can change at any time. When an itinerary is offered, it is based on live airfare and hotel availability at that moment. If additional time is required before confirming, we always do our best to hold pricing where possible; however, once fares change with the airline, any increase is unfortunately outside our control.
With respect to the accommodation in Atlanta, the mystery package includes a standard hotel within the allocated destination. Any optional upgrades—such as selecting a more central hotel or premium accommodation—are entirely optional and are only offered to customers who wish to enhance their stay. These upgrades are never mandatory, and customers are free to proceed with the accommodation included within their package.
Our Groupon listing also outlines what is included and what is not, including optional extras such as baggage, transfers, certain city or resort fees where applicable, and optional hotel upgrades, so customers can make an informed decision before purchasing.
We're pleased to hear that you found our team friendly and helpful, although we're disappointed that the overall experience left you feeling otherwise. We continually review customer feedback to improve both our communication and booking process.

They were accommodating when we didn’t like the first destination and then we settled on Orlando which is what everyone seems to be getting. We were hoping for a better trip and ended up having to pay $85 each for our desired dates. So all in it was $385 each for 2 nights in Orlando. We wish we would’ve just saved our money to book our own trip but we were wooed by the mystery so no regrets. They were accommodating but ended up having to be on the phone for an hour figuring everything out. Just a press your luck situation & we were hoping for a better tier but we are gonna make the best of it and enjoy!
