Disgustingly poor workmanship and service
I opted in on an sms recieved fro
m MTN home WiFi router contract, they sent me a debicheck message to approve, which I did. The router was supposed to be delivered to me in three business working days but that never happened, I called them a week later, at which I was told that an arrangement between me and their courier has been made which was nog true. I proceeded to call their courier company and they told me MTN had simply lied to me because the parcel was only getting picked up from MTN as I was calling. So courier company told me the parcel will be processed at their depot and sent to me the following Tuesday (+2 weeks later). On Tuesday afternoon the parcel arrived but their biometrics device was nonresponsive, so they advised me to call MTN and requested a manual delivery. I called MTN immediately while the courier was still at my place and was assisted by a call centre agent Who assured me that my request has gone through. 2:days later I called the courier for an update band was told MTN has not approved my manual delivery. I called MTN again and they kept giving me the run around despite having called them over ten times in one day, I left it for a whole week and called them today requesting an update at which I was told that my manual delivery has been approved, they even sent me an email stating that my manual delivery is approved ( another lie) because I then called the courier company and was told MTN had lied to me yet again.she told me that MTN lies to many of their clients.
It's going for a month now and i still haven't received my parcel which was initially an urgent order for my business.
I'm totally disgusted by they workmanship and service, iv never used MTN before and decided to give them a
Try. Worst mistake , today iv decided to escalate my complaint.
MTN Customer Service Complaint
MTN Customer Service Complaint
I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with my experience with MTN over the past few months.
I signed up for a month to month MTN Wi-Fi plan because my job relies entirely on having a stable, reliable internet connection. I was advised that this would be the right option for me, but from the very first month, I experienced nothing but problems.
My network was constantly being disconnected, and I even experienced issues with my router. I had to contact MTN countless times, so many times that even the agents I spoke to could see on their system how frequently I had been calling. Despite this, I was repeatedly given temporary fixes instead of a permanent solution.
As a paying customer, I expected better. I expected to receive the service I was paying for.
Eventually, after months of trying to resolve the problem, I had no choice but to start buying additional data on my Vodacom SIM and hotspotting myself just so I could continue working. I have lost thousands of rand doing this because MTN's service was unreliable.
One of the final agents I spoke to advised me to cancel the service and told me that I would not be charged a cancellation fee or any further fees. I returned the router to an MTN store on either 5 or 6 July and provided the required IRMS number and signed the cancellation paperwork.
Yet I am STILL receiving billing notifications.
I have subsequently been told that my cancellation paperwork was only processed on 24 July, weeks after I had already handed everything in. I am now being told that my account is still active, despite the fact that MTN has had the router back in its possession and I followed the cancellation process I was instructed to follow.
How can a customer be expected to continue paying for a service they are no longer using, with a router they no longer have, simply because MTN failed to process the cancellation timeously?
This entire experience has been incredibly stressful, frustrating and financially damaging. I gave MTN numerous opportunities to resolve the service issues before cancelling, and I continued paying while trying to get the problem fixed.
I expected better from a company like MTN. Instead, I have spent months making calls, dealing with repeated temporary fixes, purchasing additional data just to keep my job running, and now fighting billing issues for a service I cancelled and returned.
I strongly urge anyone considering MTN to carefully consider my experience. Keep every receipt, reference number, email and cancellation document, because getting problems resolved has been an exhausting process.
MTN needs to take responsibility for its customer service and internal administration. Customers should not have to fight for months to receive the service they are paying for or to stop being billed after returning equipment and requesting cancellation.

Please train people better at south gate mall. I went there to request assistant with my home router that no longer works and the person assisting me was visibly unsure of how to help and got frustrated when I asked questions like how long till i get my router back since u are talking it in for repairs since failing within 12 months of use. And said was bought online not at there store so I shouldn't make it his problem. Aren't all mtn customers mtn customers???? Incredibly disappointed
Disguised as a Mobile Contract renewal
MTN replaced my existing contract with a "similar" package, only for my bill to suddenly double the charges, pro-rata fees. To make matters worse, gaming and other subscription services seem to mysteriously appear on my account, inflating the monthly cost even further.
I've spent more time questioning bills than enjoying the service. Customers shouldn't have to constantly monitor their accounts to avoid unexpected charges.
What started as a straightforward contract has turned into real-time daylight robbery through confusing billing practices and unwanted subscriptions.
Absolutely disappointing and completely erodes trust in the brand.
BAD EXPERIENCE
I would never recommend MTN to anyone. This whole experience has been extremely frustrating, and I feel like I was charged amounts that were never properly explained to me. Even after settling my account, I still have no clear understanding of the statement. Very disappointed with the service and communication.
Poor customer experience
Poor customer experience.
This is the levels of customer experience expected in SA.
Pathetic
If I could give MTN South Africa 0 Star, I would.
If I could give MTN South Africa 0 stars, I would. This has been the single worst customer service experience I have ever had.
I submitted my written cancellation for my ILULA SME business contracts on 30 April 2026 at an MTN branch. MTN has since confirmed in writing that my cancellation was received and logged on that date. Yet they simply failed to process it.
Instead of taking responsibility for their own mistake, MTN continued deducting R858 every month from my account for contracts that have not been used since April 2026. Over four months, they took R3,432 because of an error entirely of their own making.
The most shocking part is that this wasn't a misunderstanding. MTN acknowledged that my cancellation was logged, but still continued billing me. I have sent emails, followed up repeatedly, provided evidence, and even gave them a formal deadline to resolve the matter. That deadline came and went without any meaningful response or solution.
No customer should have to spend months fighting to stop being billed for services they cancelled. No customer should have to chase a company to correct an administrative error that the company itself admits happened.
MTN has demonstrated a complete lack of accountability, poor internal processes, and an unacceptable disregard for its customers. Instead of resolving a simple cancellation, they have forced me to prepare complaints to ICASA and the National Consumer Commission and to consider legal action simply to recover money that should never have been deducted.
This entire experience has been exhausting, time-consuming, and completely avoidable.
I have lost all confidence in MTN South Africa. If this is how they treat business customers who follow the correct cancellation process, I would strongly advise anyone considering MTN to think very carefully before signing a contract. Getting in may be easy, but getting out is an absolute nightmare.
Number deactivated and reassigned…
Number deactivated and reassigned without adequate warning.
I am extremely disappointed with MTN’s handling of my long-standing mobile number. While I was overseas on a visiting research engagement, MTN deactivated my number and later reassigned it to another customer. I received no effective prior notice giving me a reasonable opportunity to prevent this.
This number was linked to my bank account, authentication services, professional contacts, and many essential personal accounts. The consequences are far more serious than simply losing mobile service. I now face major inconvenience, security concerns, and the difficult process of changing my number across multiple institutions while outside South Africa.
Customer service confirmed that the number had already been recycled and could not be restored. Although they apologised, no meaningful solution was offered.
MTN should provide clear advance warnings before suspending, deactivating, or recycling a customer’s number, especially when the consequences can affect banking, account security, and access to essential services. This experience has caused significant stress and loss of trust.
I will never recommend this company anyone!
MTN South Africa - False Advertising!!!
Reference number: 99e9071e-3707-408d-8a05-b888520ba0e6
We currently have five contracts with MTN, and the internet speed on all five devices is extremely slow.
We are only receiving 1.99 Mbps, while according to MTN the minimum expected speed should be 15 Mbps.
If this is not false advertising, then I am not sure what is.
Could you please advise whether you can recommend a reliable internet provider in the Hartbeespoort Dam area?
Also, why is 5G still not available in our area?
MTN Customer service is the worst
Worst service provider
Worst service provider; don't sign a contract with MTN. They get fraudulent companies to sell you "an upgrade" packages that are actually an additional SIM, and when you get your bill at the end of the month, seeing you are paying for two SIMs, they refuse to resolve the issue or reimburse you, and you can't cancel it. MTN's new way of just taking your money. They ignore you and take your money every month.
Payment allocation issue and rude consultants
I am beyond frustrated with MTN.
I contacted MTN because I had already paid my device account in advance, yet I continued receiving SMS notifications that I would be debited on 30 June. Instead of resolving the issue, I was told that my payment had been allocated to a completely different account. How is that my responsibility when I selected the correct account on the MTN App and paid exactly what was displayed?
To make matters worse, two consultants gave me completely different information. One consultant confirmed that MTN had received my payment and that it simply needed to be allocated correctly. Minutes later, another consultant insisted that MTN had not received the payment at all. Which version is the truth?
The service I received was unacceptable. The first consultant sounded completely uninterested, spoke as though helping me was an inconvenience, and simply opened a case instead of offering any meaningful assistance. The second consultant became defensive and raised his voice while I was trying to understand why I was now at risk of being debited because of MTN’s own mistake.
This comes after weeks of dealing with another MTN billing dispute caused by a misleading sales call. Instead of finally resolving my issues, MTN continues creating new ones.
Customers should not have to spend weeks correcting MTN’s errors, receive conflicting information from different consultants, or worry about being billed because of mistakes they did not make. MTN needs to take accountability for its billing systems and the conduct of its consultants.
Customer service
To be honest, I'd like to rate it 0 stars but I dont think thats possible . The server who helped us was on their phone the whole time watching Instagram reels. I acknowledge that there are moments when the computer is loading and they have to wait, but I dont think its appropriate to be doing that, especially as their volume was on and they weren't even trying to hide it. I think they could really improve with their customer service.
MTN ONLINE rude and unprofessional
MTN ONLINE rude and unprofessional. After multiple calls in the day I took the time to talk to them and while I was still talking about my contract they cut the call me and then someone new calls me.

Worst ISP to ever exist do yourself a…
Worst ISP to ever exist do yourself a favour do not get involved with this "business" in any manner my experience: around mid 2025 I subscribed to their Home internet package initially had no problem then the problems began Firstly the internet speed was so horribly slow it was genuinely better to just have no internet connection at all secondly when I decided it was time to end the service I took their router back everything inside the package and was told it would be cancelled following month I was not debited thinking I was finally done with this "business" I relaxed I checked my emails as usual I got an email from mtn telling me they glad I decided not to cancel and that my service will be continued for the next 2 months (mind u I dont have their Sim their router nothing of theirs anymore and clearly cancelled their service) i promptly sent them an email back including my id number name and detailed the experience I received a lackluster email back asking for my email again and this email came 4 /5 days later then they debited me again the next month I acted quickly reported it to my bank and still no email from mtn then in the same month they debit 1650 from my account and I have just noticed they've been trying to do this for a while now still no email still no communication worst isp ever I urgue you no matter what do not do business with these people what you looking for you will not get here but rather just scammed this business is blatantly a scam profiting off shady activity
They may have the fastest internet…
They may have the fastest internet speed, but their customer service is pathetic. I tried to subscribe to international calling, but after two hours of trying, went to get help at MTN Constantia Village. The service lady was unable/unwilling to help. She said she couldn't, I needed to go home and call them. I tried again and this time the customer service informed me they had no idea what it cost and how to get the subscription. I mean, what do they know?? Still no luck on their app either.
Wish I could make it less than 1 star
Wish I could make it less than 1 star. MTN South Africa is an absolute criminal that will just steal your money over and over again. Never ever open any form of contract or month to month plan with them. They will never let you cancel and just continue to steal your money for years
