Their sales team lied to me and sold me…

Their sales team lied to me and sold me a contract that wasn't what he said it would be. Trying to cancel the contract is the most frustrating experience. Customer care is useless, they cannot help. Every time I have had to call to find out what's happening and all they can say is they are 'escalating' the problem. Going into a store was pointless. Now I am stuck with a phone I don't want, paying for it AND having to fork out extra money on data every month because the contract what not what I was told and NO ONE is helping me!! I feel so frustrated. Please dont sign up with MTN.

I am extremely frustrated with MTN’s…

I am extremely frustrated with MTN’s customer service. For over 5 months, I kept contacting them about my account and was repeatedly told that it had been handed over to attorneys.

Today, I found out that it had not been handed over. I have already paid off one account, only to discover that another account was kept separate and has now accumulated to R17,784.70.

I have been trying to resolve this matter, but I am now expected to pay an amount I simply cannot afford within 3 months.

Very disappointing and frustrating service. Customers deserve clear communication, transparency and proper assistance.

Terrible service and a total breach of contract. MTN debits me the full R179 monthly fee for the Mobile Internet Gold plan (50GB), but only gives me 25GB on my phone. They take 100% of my money and deliver 50% of the service. I have been fighting with support for a week, and they just say they are "waiting for feedback" while keeping my data cut off. I have officially reversed my August debit order and filed a complaint with ICASA. Do not take contracts with them!

Useless subscriptions from MTN

I bought R350 airtime intending to buy data and my money was gone, to a subscription which mtn automatically made for me. Mtn should stop subscribing our numbers to useless things which keep on chowing our airtime. How are we supposed to pay for things mtn subscribe our numbers to while at the same we're supposed to buy their services? This is daylight robbery and should come to an end. They should not take us for a ride. I want my airtime back!!!

I have been trying to cancel my contract since April 2026. I made it very clear to the MTN agents that I wanted the contract cancelled, yet the cancellation was never processed.

How is this my fault when I clearly requested the cancellation and the agent failed to process it? I have contacted MTN multiple times since then, only to be transferred around without proper assistance or accountability.

I am now being presented with a large bill for a service I have barely been using, and the SIM card is currently blocked.

This entire situation could have been avoided if my cancellation request had simply been processed when I made it.

Very disappointing customer service. No accountability. 0/5.

If you are considering taking an MTN contract, my advice is to stay away and consider other options. I would not want anyone else to go through what I have experienced.

MTN support is terrible and tired of spam calls & sms's

MTN support is terrible.

Scammers got access to all of my account details and private information, I have with them. I can only imagine through MTN itself. They don't get back to my emails or phone calls and good luck contacting fraud department if anything bad happens.

The amount of spam i get on my phone number a day is alarming and can only imagine it has something to do with strangers having access to my account information...

DONT TAKE THE MTN CONTRACT !!

Terrible service on their Home 5G service with poor quality ZTE 5G modems!
Try to get support for defective modems - they will leave you down for days and the shops dont keep modem stock.
If you order online, the franchise shops are not interested in you as they did not make money on the transaction.
DONT TAKE THE HOME INTERNET SERVICE. It is plagued with support issues and event account debits on your account.
MTN support is bad !!

MTN Greenstone

MTN Greenstone — Pressured Me Into Porting, No Contract, No Handset, No Service
I switched from Vodacom to MTN after being let down by Vodacom's customer service. I'm now regretting that decision entirely.

On 4 July I went into the MTN Greenstone branch to sign up for a contract with a new handset. The consultant told me the phone I wanted was out of stock and I'd have to wait — but he was very persistent that I should port my number from Vodacom to MTN first, and that once the port went through he could log an application to order the handset in.

Against my better judgement, I agreed and ported my number. To be clear: I have not signed a contract. There is no agreement in place. MTN has my number and I have nothing.

Since the port, my Honor 7XD is asking for an NCK code and I have no service at all. I can make voice calls and nothing else — no data, no functioning line.

On 16 July I left work early to sort this out and had to phone MTN from my mother's phone, because my own is effectively useless. The consultant I dealt with at the Greenstone branch was rude and completely unhelpful. She did not know what an NCK is. She made no attempt to find out. I work in IT and was about to suggest a troubleshooting step we could try, and she wasn't interested in hearing it — she was clearly just rushing to end the call.

With no thanks to MTN, I have had to research the problem myself on the internet and work out how to resolve it without any assistance from them. If a customer with an IT background has to self-diagnose a porting issue because your own staff can't, that says everything about the level of service here.

So the position I'm in: nearly three weeks after MTN pushed me into porting my number, there's no signed contract, no handset, my phone won't take the network, and the staff can't or won't explain the problem, let alone fix it.

What I want:

My line restored to full working service, or a clear explanation of the NCK issue and how it gets resolved.
A firm answer on the handset — stock date or a written alternative.
Someone competent to contact me who can actually action this, not a scripted brush-off.
I left Vodacom because of poor service. Three weeks in and I'm seriously reconsidering doing business with you at all.

😡😡😡😡

I made an eftpayment to MTN for my WiFi as requested, they processed a debit order as well and now I'm having issues with my refund, they're requesting a bank statement which is not genenerated by the bank as yet for the current date, pdf proof of payment or transaction history is not enough for them, You confirmed that you can see the payment I made to you but refusing to refund my money. Unacceptable. And further more

Your Case BO0216164 is now closed. No assistance.

Dear MTN,

Dear MTN,
Terrible customer experience from MTN South Africa. They emailed me saying they will debit me in July for a contract I already communicated to close in May.

Furthermore, when I queried this, your employee was unable to provide a clear explanation as to why I am being charged for both the cancellation and a package from which I do not receive full benefits. This lack of clarity and accountability is unacceptable.

MTN RUINED MY LIFE 😡

*⭐☆☆☆☆ 1-Star Review*
I have never experienced customer service this poor.

MTN switched off my internet after a troubleshooting session on 12 July 2026, and since then I have had no internet access despite having 140 GB of data and an account that is fully paid.

To try to resolve the issue I have:

* Visited 3 MTN branches.
* Purchased a new SIM card for R150 because MTN told me to.
* Called customer support more than 5 times.
* Travelled over 800 km looking for assistance.
* Had multiple escalations opened with no meaningful feedback.

Every interaction ends with the same generic troubleshooting instead of someone actually fixing the problem. MTN has never been able to explain why my SIM can register on the network but cannot access the internet.

This has cost me time, money, fuel, leave from work, and business opportunities. Paying for a service that MTN has failed to provide is unacceptable.

At this point, I have lost confidence in MTN. I expect a full refund for the period I have been without service and cancellation of my contract without penalties due to MTN’s failure to deliver what I am paying for.

I cannot recommend MTN to anyone based on this experience.

MTN is such a scam-stealing money!

MTN is such a scam. After cancelling my phone contract, I was told I had to pay approximately R9 000 for the phone, otherwise I would be blacklisted. I paid the amount requested and asked for written confirmation that the contract had been cancelled. I was told they could not provide this and that I would have to phone in and request a statement.

After making the payment, I was assured that I no longer owed anything. However, the following month, the phone insurance (which was part of the cancelled contract) was still being deducted from my bank account.

After numerous attempts to resolve the issue, I had a family member visit the main MTN office on my behalf. They were initially refused assistance because they were not the account holder. After I sent written permission authorising them to act on my behalf, they were finally helped and MTN confirmed that the contract would be closed.

Despite this, MTN is still deducting money from my bank account through a debit order.

This has been an extremely frustrating experience. The lack of communication, poor handling of cancellations, and repeated incorrect information given by employees make it feel like customers’ money is being taken without proper accountability. Instead of resolving issues, the blame is passed between employees while customers are left to deal with the consequences.
