They have no idea what they're doing

I purchased a residential VPN with dedicated IP, at which point I realised that these guys have no idea what they are doing.

For a start, they don't use a concentrator, so the egress IPs have *open tunnel ports* so they are instantly detectable as VPNs.

Sure enough, even though I had a supposedly fresh dedicated IP, it didn't work to unblock anything.

Customer service, of course, didn't really know what they were talking about. When I pointed out the problems, they sent me links to a bunch of free and useless "Check my IP" tools, claiming that there was nothing wrong with them. Then, when I replied with a screenshot from IPInfo - a paid, enterprise tool that content providers actually use, which showed it as a glaringly obvious VPN - they claimed that they knew best.

It's an astonishingly amateur setup. There is no possibility of their residential IPs being useful, because no service that matters will be fooled by them. As for their other services, I don't know. If you just want a VPN, and don't really need any advanced features, maybe it's fine.

Total scammers!!

Total scammers!!! The price give you the impression of a one time purchase that you have to confirm manually and it turns out that is a subscription model that charges you every month. I tried to resolve the misunderstand with the support team of the company. No assistance or clear explanation from their side. They were super rude and there was no proper explanation. I myself have worked in customer support and I would have never bypassed the struggle of a paying customer in such a way. All in all you will be better off using a different provider!

No issues in years of use

Overall I have never had any issues with TorGuard in my years using it. I initially switched from another VPN provider since it didn't support port forwarding, as many others also don't. TorGuard's port forwarding is fairly straightforward.

The price is very reasonable as well and hasn't increased in my time using it.

I have occaisionally needed to change IP addresses since on a particular IP I was starting to get slow speeds, but I haven't had that issue in quite a while now.

Would absolutely recommend.

TorGuard Support was amazing

TorGuard Support was amazing, they made it look easy, thanks a lot.

Not sure about this trustpilot survey if its attached to the ticket support I had, it makes me think my good sentiment wont reach the agent who supported me.

payment issues

I downloaded the app, paid for it, but when I log into my account, the paywall appears again. I can't enable VPN. I wrote to support, but no one is responding.

Very poor support and no reliability

If you don't care much about the quality of the service, it is fine. If you have an issue, prepare for long never-ending conversations with support (about 4h each reply) and very little solutions.
Their data center are already sooo burnt out and blocked by many websites, you won't be able to use much streaming, banking sites, etc.
Also I believe they are based in Taiwan so... get to your own conclusions.
Too bad, their approach is good, their execution very cheap and results not reliable at all.

don't use their services

don't use their services. my email service has not functioned for more than 1 week. can't authenticate my other accounts connected to this email and can't receive important emails focusing on year-end finances. They are unable to fix it because they can't get "others" to do anything about it. If you can't fix a services, why do u offer it? I had to change all of my emails. I sent screenshots of the problem the first day - they responded - "maybe ur inbox if full" despite the fact that the screenshots indicated a completely different problem. It took 4 exchanges before they responded in a reasonable way and 4 more to get a "unfortunately we can't fix it on our end" and have no idea when it will work again. They gave me some responses that are meaningless to someone who just needs their email to work. they keep saying my ticket is answered and I have to reply "it's not". ridiculous and dangerous service

Going above and beyond when they did not need too

Despite my issue not being the fault on TorGuard, they bent over backwards to assist me to eventually to guide me to find a solution, something my ISP would not do. (Despite it being their fault)

Their customer service and tech support went above and beyond what I had expected and for that I am truly thankful for.

Customer of 7 Years Banned

Something went wrong and my account was auto suspended (shoot first ask questions later?). So I log a ticket.

The support is TERRIBLE.

Sequence of events:

1) Account Suspension
2) Logging onto website and logging a ticket
3) Customer update
4) Staff update - 3 hours later
5) Customer update
6) Customer update
7) Staff update - 6 hours later
8) Customer update
9) Staff update - 1 hour later
10) Customer update
11) Customer update
12) Customer update
13) Staff update - 10 hours later
14) Customer update

Comment on events:

1) Off the bat the staff respone times are extremely slow.

2) They suspended my service, sent no notification email they had done so. I had to log into find out and then log a ticket.

3) Initial troubleshooting is sending basic question one at time, these are independent, so they could have all been grouped in the one message. Literally for me "How many devices are you using", I respond, then 6 hours later "Did you share your credentials".

4) The only pertinent bit of information is in the 3rd response, which is a result of me taking over the troubleshooting. That is, 1000s of positive auths in a short period of time. Initial insinuation is that I have been sharing credentials.

5) They then start asking for screenshots from my computer of AV and Malware scans. We haven't even established my machine is the culprit, let alone the OS is Linux and the variety of ways you secure the machine result in text from logs, programs and REQUIRE precise timestamps to start.

Last few updates are me requesting more information so I can troubleshoot from my end. Eg what are the exact timestamps when these auths were supposed to have happened, were these from a single IP or multiple IPs (eg misconfig or DDOS): EG things they should be telling me unprompted.

6) End result is they provide no information for me to narrow down the issue. They say I am uncooperative and I intentionally attacked their system and that I am permanently banned now.

Where they can improve:

1) These are slamdunk tickets. I.e the 90% the 1st level support can handle. Use a template for sending out all the pertinent queries in one message give the huge response times.

2) Level up on the previous point: when suspending an account, send out an email notification, create the ticket automatically, and prepopulate it with a template.

3) Have a functioning chat feature. TG's redirects you to email. Again looks like staff issues, but in this day of AI chatbots it can fix a lot of the first level problems and automation.

4) Train staff to support all the OS's you purportedly support. As a Linux user, saying "run your AV and send us a screenshot" is not helpful. What do you want? a NETSTAT, a rootkit tester, syslogs? I need timestamps to send something pertinent. Or alternatively, pull Linux support.

5) Also, keep the same staff member on the ticket, instead of cycling people for responses. There is no ownership of a problem.

6) NEVER EVER accuse the customer of malicous activity, unless there is solid proof. For me that was a jaw dropper. I would have reprimanded any of my staff for suggesting that to a customer. Sure this is small stakes 30 bucks a year user. But it is unprofessional and invites lawsuits if the stakes were higher. You should also apply logic here, customer with 7 years of payments, perfect record and then they start acting maliciously???. The implication here is I was performing a DOS attack on them by re-authenticating contiously: insane.

At least on my end, I switched providers. But that accusation annoys me so much that I will log a case with the ACCC here in Australia. Even if I cant get my payment refunded, at least their name goes down in the books. I cant be the first customer with a bad experience, and enough strikes, you are fined or blocked form doing business in Australia.

I noticed they are postively reviewed here. This makes sense as if you asked me a few weeks ago, they would get 4 stars, occasional disconnects and sometimes abysmal speed. But when something did go wrong, they were not technically equipped to troubleshoot and then emotions kicked in and they banned me.

In conclusion: Give it a miss, support is terrible. If you don't believe me look at the low reviews here or just google search: it all comes back to support. Slow speeds and disconnects are tolerable if you have good support (to a degree).

But if you do bite the bullet, pay as slowly as you can, that is dont be tempted by the discounts offered with buying months or years in advance: you can be banned like that, even after years.

NB Somewhere between the slow responses I tried to escalate on X, they said DM them there, I did and they didn't respond.
