Volvo Cars have no safety features.

I took possession of a Volvo C 40 recharge July 2024, first year I was extremely happy with all aspects of the car as it was packed with so many advance features and was eager to explore them all, as an old electric sedan one of the features was that I could charge it at home at low overnight electricity rate, another of the features that was so amazing was the one pet drive, one of the other features of the car was that it was fitted with so many senses front and rear, those features made it impossible for you too crash a car as these sensors were connected to the breaking system, so if you went to near to an object the cardboard sense it and automatically inform you of an imminent collision, if you were to ignore these warnings. The car would apply to breaking system preventing you from actually damaging car.
so has the first year had passed I was confident in all aspects of how the car worked, so my family and I decided to have a day out to box Hill in Surrey, the first few miles from Croydon was an eventful as we got to Epsom where the area became more country fight, we got lost and I was happy that we had a satnav, so I employed the satnav to complete our journey. This satnav suggested that we were going the wrong way so I started to manoeuvered the car for a 3 point turn, as I came out of the three-point turn manoeuvre and employed the accelerator. There was no response from the car at that point there was a loud rattling sound and as this Sam was coming from the rear of the car I turned to look to see if possibly I had hit something although there was no indication in the car to say that I had done so, as I turned the car started to accelerate without any input from me on the accelerator pedal, as this behaviour from the car I tried to press the brakes. The car did not respond to the break. A frantically tried to steer the car. The steering wheel was a light non-response , as we were in a country lane the car run along a Bush verge demolishing them and eventually the car stopped after hitting a tree which was more substantial than the hedgerow that we have just demolished, none of the safety features in the car was employed no audio warning signals no lights indicating that we have just collided with the tree. No airbag was inflated, as my family and I was in shock not knowing why the car behaving this manner when it was supposed to be a safe car with multi safety features and none of them came to our aid , why the car was in the body shop having the panels replaced, as I was so concerned about the cars behaviour I contacted Volvo and told him about my experience, and requested that a senior Volvo mechanic to do a diagnostic appraisal of the car and why it behaved in such life-threatening manner, this report was carried out by this Volvo specialist engineer, after the incident the Volvo group company were constantly on the phone for me to fill out there report form giving all the details of the incident, I didn’t reply to the request as I was quite shaken up by the experience, eventually I did fill-in the report questionnaire, so after a week or so I was not getting any feedback from the Volvo engineer that I requested to make the day diagnostic of the car computer system, I was confident that there would be evidence of Iraq the car performance that day I was on the phone every day requesting this report diagnostic engineer eventually I was told that this report is not available to me. I was devastated that I requested this report at the end of the day. Volvo was denying me the result of that report, they then recommended that I go to the ombudsman to raise my complaint, I raise my complaint to the on bat and they took Volvo’s view that it was driver error, I dispute that vigourously but they refuse to acknowledge that the car was faulty and had any issues, I then googled Volvo C4 recharge, and I was devastated to find out that my experience with the Volvo C40 recharge has been well known to Volvo for some years, as in America and under the continent other drivers had experience the same situation as myself and my family, Volvo refused to take any responsibility for the malfunction of the car I have sent them the information from America and under continent that I was not an isolated case but they still refused to accept responsibility for incident, a Volvo card they built their brand around safety conscious customers, and that was the reason I purchased the Volvo as I am a very safety conscious Customer, and now that the car had failed Volvo refused to take responsibility for the incident, as I’ve said before the motor vehicle on Benjamin has taken Volvos explanation that there was not anything wrong with the car and it was driver error. All these other reports of a failure of the car in other countries. They refused to acknowledge that they have a problem with C4 recharge j

This letter summarizes the documented…

This letter summarizes the documented issues already provided to Volvo Car USA, which remain unaddressed.

---

1. Undisclosed Structural Wheel Repairs (Documented)

Volvo Cars White Plains delivered a vehicle whose wheels had undergone structural machining and welding prior to sale — repairs explicitly prohibited under Volvo corporate safety policy and NHTSA regulations governing aluminum wheel integrity.

The dealership’s own vendor sublet invoice (11 pages; only 3 pages were provided to me) documents:

• All four wheels on the vehicle were bent and cracked
• The dealership instructed the vendor to machine and weld the wheels rather than replace them
• Multiple other Volvo vehicles on the same invoice received similar prohibited repairs

None of these structural repairs were disclosed at the time of sale.

---

2. Falsified Forward‑Facing Invoices and Misrepresentation of CPO Status

Customer‑facing invoices produced by Volvo Cars White Plains omit the structural wheel repairs entirely. Several lines are marked “NO WORK PERFORMED,” despite the vendor documentation showing extensive sublet work.

Another invoice claims a “Certified Pre‑Owned (CPO) Inspection” was completed. When I requested the inspection checklist, senior dealership personnel — including General Manager John DeAngelis, Service Manager Frank Nolan, and Manager Davin Sanford — stated:

“There is no Certified Pre Owned checklist. That is for accounting and regulatory purpose.”

This statement directly contradicts the dealership’s own invoice, which states:

“PERFORM CPO INSPECTION AS PER GUIDELINES. COMPLETE CPO CHECKLIST.”

This discrepancy constitutes misrepresentation of inspection status and falsification of required documentation.

---

3. Retaliatory Conduct After Structural Failure

After one of the welded wheels cracked open, the dealership retained the vehicle for two months. Despite the vendor invoice documenting all four wheels as bent and cracked, the dealership refused to replace all four wheels.

When I declined to accept the vehicle back in unsafe condition, Volvo Cars White Plains attempted to impose storage fees.

This conduct represents retaliation toward a customer who refused to accept a vehicle with undisclosed structural repairs.

---

4. Evidence of a Broader Practice

The vendor sublet invoice provided to me represents only 3 of 11 pages, yet already shows:

• Multiple Volvo vehicles
• Multiple wheels
• Multiple machining and welding repairs
• Repeated “SOLD CAR, bent / cracked” notations

The volume of repairs documented suggests that the practice of machining and welding structurally compromised wheels may extend beyond a single vehicle.

---

5. Volvo Car USA’s Current Position

Volvo Car USA has been provided with:

• The vendor sublet invoice documenting prohibited structural repairs
• The forward‑facing invoices containing falsified entries
• The dealership’s admission that the “CPO checklist” does not exist
• The timeline of retaliation and attempted storage fees

To date, Volvo Car USA has not taken corrective action, initiated investigation, or enforced brand safety standards.

Given Volvo’s public commitment to safety, this lack of response is deeply concerning.

---

6. Requested Action

I am requesting:

1. Formal corporate investigation into Volvo Cars White Plains and Premier Collection
2. Review of all structural wheel repairs performed on customer vehicles
3. Audit of CPO inspection practices and documentation
4. Determination of whether Volvo Cars White Plains falsified repair and inspection records
5. Corrective action and remediation consistent with Volvo’s safety standards

These issues are not isolated. They represent a systemic failure in safety compliance, documentation integrity, and consumer protection.

VOLVO LEASE RETURN

VOLVO LEASE RETURN - BE AWARE - I have been leasing, 3 Volvos, zero issues until my 2023 XC90 lease return. I turned in the 2023 XC90 (in good condition, ~5,000 miles remaining) specifically to lease their new 2027 XC60 — staying loyal to the brand. A month after the return: a $224 "excessive wear" charge. When I asked why, I was told directly that it's because the dealership chose not to buy back the vehicle — not because of actual damage. I have condition-report photos showing the "damage" is a few small surface scuffs measured in millimeters. I regret making the switch. If you're leasing a Volvo, get your own photos at return and ask upfront whether wear-and-tear charges depend on the dealer's buyback decision — because apparently they do. Volvo does not care if you are a customer who is a return customer even when their service department sucks; you pay on time 100% of the time; are loyal even when there are other brands with better technology; take care of their vehicles etc. I regret leasing my 2027 Volvo from them.

My 18 month old EX30 has had an aknowledged battery safety issue for 10 months now which has reduced the range by almost a third. I appreciate it has been difficult for them to resolve the issue but their customer service has been appaling throughout the whole process, which is still to be resolved. Lack of aknowledging responsibility or any genuine apology. I would never have considered purchasing the vehicle with 150 mile range, I travel 15k miles a year. Parts are now available and two weeks after a request for a repair date, no response from either sales, service or manager.

Volvo EX90 – Released Too Early and Full of Problems

Don't do it! We deeply regret choosing the Volvo EX90. The car appears to have been released far too early, before either the vehicle or its software was ready for customers.

We have experienced repeated charging problems and numerous software issues, making the car unreliable and extremely frustrating to own. For a premium vehicle at this price, these problems are simply unacceptable.

Rather than feeling like Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, the EX90 feels like an unfinished product, with customers effectively being used to test it. We expected far better from Volvo, particularly given the cost and reputation of the brand.

We previously had an XC90 and much preferred it. It was dependable, practical and gave us confidence, everything the EX90 has failed to provide. We genuinely regret changing vehicles.

Our experience with the EX90 has been stressful and disappointing. Volvo should not have released this car until the charging systems, software and basic reliability issues had been properly resolved.

We wish we had kept our XC90.

Volvo EX90 – £1,250 a Month for a Car That Doesn’t Work

Extremely disappointed with our Volvo EX90. We are paying approximately **£1,250 a month for a car that we currently cannot drive**.

The vehicle has suffered serious issues, including charging problems, and it has now reached the point where it will not open, lock or drive. It is currently sitting in a garage while we continue paying for a vehicle we cannot use.

For a car at this price point, and especially one marketed as Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, this is simply unacceptable.

What has been equally frustrating is the handling of the situation. Despite raising our concerns and providing supporting information from a Volvo technician, we have been unable to get a satisfactory resolution.

We expected much better from Volvo and from a vehicle of this price and reputation. The whole experience has been incredibly stressful and disappointing.

**£1,250 a month for a car that doesn't work is simply not acceptable.** AVOID

Brand new XC 60 £71,000 was recovered by breakdown 2 weeks from collection. Volvo assist left us abandoned 100 miles for home. I rejected the car and requested a refund (according to consumer rights act 2015) 2 weeks on with no car all they only state they will respond within 8 weeks. Volvo are not just a terrible organization but they have no respect for UK law.

Cannot opt out from Volvo On Call

It is not possible to opt out of Volvo On Call service even if you don't use it. After a while a light "Volvo On Call service required" light came up. Technician explained that a battery has expired and needs to be changed which costs 240 euro. I don't use and don't plan to use Volvo On Call service. Still the message cannot be disabled and warning comes up EVERY time I start my car which is annoying and distracts from real warnings and real problems. This seems like forcing your customers to pay for features they never use.

Volvo Selekt failed me — basic checks missed, no leadership response, and I’m now considering getting rid of the car

I bought a Volvo Selekt approved-used XC40 expecting a premium, carefully prepared vehicle that had been inspected to Volvo's own advertised standards. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience.

Within minutes of leaving the retailer, a TPMS warning appeared. When I checked the tyres myself, I found that the pressures were incorrect and one valve cap was missing. These are basic checks that I would reasonably expect to have been completed as part of Volvo Selekt's 150-point inspection.

I also discovered that the car's modem had not been reset, leaving information relating to the previous owner still present in the vehicle. This should have been dealt with before the car was handed over and raises obvious data-protection and privacy concerns.

When I initially raised these issues with the retailer, they were described as "teething problems". I strongly disagree. These were not faults that developed after ownership; they were issues that were present when I collected a vehicle that had been sold to me as a Volvo Selekt approved-used car.

Communication since then has also been disappointing, with promised call-backs not taking place and responses taking considerably longer than I would expect from a premium manufacturer and its approved-used network.

What has been most disappointing, however, has been Volvo Customer Services. Rather than investigating whether the Volvo Selekt standards had actually been met, I was effectively told that the matter was for the retailer to deal with. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, I was directed towards the Motor Ombudsman as the route available to me.

That leaves me with a very straightforward question:

If a Volvo Selekt retailer fails to meet Volvo's own approved-used standards, who within Volvo UK is actually responsible for investigating that failure and ensuring that those standards are upheld?

I attempted to escalate the matter further and contacted senior Volvo UK staff directly on LinkedIn, including Nicole Melillo Shaw, Managing Director of Volvo Car UK, and Matthew Bench, Head of Commercial Operations at Volvo Car UK. I received no response.

I find that particularly disappointing. I wasn't asking for preferential treatment or making an unreasonable demand. I was asking Volvo UK to take ownership of a concern relating directly to its own Volvo Selekt approved-used standards.

I have also looked at Volvo UK's customer feedback on Trustpilot. At the time of writing, Volvo UK has a very low overall rating, with many negative reviews containing recurring complaints about communication, customer support and unresolved problems. I recognise that Trustpilot reviews are self-selecting and don't necessarily represent every Volvo customer. Nevertheless, the volume of negative feedback and the recurring themes are concerning and make my experience feel far from isolated.

What concerns me most is what this experience tells me about future ownership.

I purchased the XC40 because I believed that buying a Volvo Selekt approved-used vehicle would provide additional reassurance and that, if something went wrong, Volvo UK and its approved retailer network would stand behind the product and the standards associated with the Volvo Selekt programme.

Instead, I have experienced poor preparation, disappointing communication and, most importantly, a lack of clear accountability when I raised concerns about whether those standards had actually been met.

I genuinely like the XC40 itself. That is what makes this situation particularly frustrating.

I am now seriously considering getting rid of the car, not because I dislike it, but because I have lost confidence in the support I can expect from Volvo UK if a more serious or expensive problem occurs in the future.

For a manufacturer positioning itself as a premium brand, I find that extremely disappointing.

I have tried to resolve these matters directly and constructively through the retailer and Volvo UK, including attempting to escalate the issue to senior management. Having exhausted the opportunities I have so far been given to resolve this directly, I am now considering sharing my experience and the supporting documentation with relevant UK motoring and consumer media outlets.

I believe the questions raised by my experience — particularly concerning Volvo Selekt inspection standards, accountability, customer support and the way complaints are handled — deserve independent scrutiny.

I hope Volvo UK will take this complaint seriously, explain who is responsible for policing the Volvo Selekt standards when an approved retailer fails to meet them, and consider whether the customer-service experience being reported by many customers needs much more attention.

Too bad you cant give a zero review

Too bad you cant give a zero review. Have a 2020 Volvo for a year ERAD unit failed costing me €7,500. No coulance, no compensation of any kind just pay up! Not only that, i have been waiting 2 months already and what i have heard from the garage is that it could take even longer because in Sweden they have a backlog on these units, even worse is that they won't even provide me with a replacement car unless i pay €100 a day for one like WTH!! First time i bought a Volvo as have been told they are reliable cars and give a good service but in fact far from it. What a mistake, i am so appalled with Volvo and the way they treat and handle their customers, it is pathetic to say the least!

Volvo, a premium brand? Don't be fooled

Our 18 month old XC90 T8 Recharge car broke down at home and had to be recovered. Recovery agent caused £1700+ of damage during the recovery, which we have on video.
Vovlo have been worse than appalling, firstly they took 8 weeks (thier stated maximum resolution time) just to disclaim all responsibility and point me to the insurer who adminsters the warranty.
That insurer then took another 8 weeks, to simply write to ask for the evidence already provided to Volvo.
This damage was cause in February and it's now August, with no sign of a resolution.
Volvo may present themselves as a premium manufacturer ( particularly in the larger high spec SUV's such as our Hybrid XC90) but but when the viel is lifted the service level is worse than a back street dealer.
Their conduct appears to be to deliberately frustrate my claim in the hope I'll give up. Hardly the way to treat someone who is driving a car that listed over £80,000. The german brands and landrover wipe the floor with Volvo on service.
This was our first Volvo but will be our last, car is pretty good, but the Company stinks. Back to Landrover next.

Volvo Selekt

I bought a used XC40 from Volvo Selekt and took out the Renewal Warranty for peace of mind.

One owner, under 20k miles, and within one year it’s already needed a new A/C compressor, has a fault flagged on a battery cell module, and had worn brakes. For a premium car at that age and mileage, that’s disappointing, and it’s made me question buying another Volvo.

The A/C had been faulty for a while. I first tried Swiss Cottage, but their equipment had been out of action for months and they couldn’t do the work. I then booked another Volvo dealer specifically for the A/C, and the quote came back at roughly 15% of what I paid for the whole car.

The bigger issue is the warranty itself. There was a short gap between my old and new policy — a few weeks, purely admin around the renewal. The insurer has used that to refuse the claim, arguing the fault “might” have arisen in that window, even though it existed well before. They shifted burden of proof on me although my conversation with Volvo Swiss Cottage was verbal. I was essentially treated as if I’d timed things to game the policy. I hadn’t. Same car, same warranty, renewed in good faith.

Challenging the decision is its own problem. Car Care Plan administer the warranty and act as a call centre with no real authority to resolve anything. Long waits, no clear complaints route, and the main line just refers you back to them.

The impression I’m left with is that there’s no interest in keeping customers long term. I paid for a warranty, had a genuine fault, and was refused on a technicality — thousands out of pocket after barely a year. Why would I buy from them again?

I have had my last Volvo of my life

I have had my last Volvo of my life. My wife and I have had 7 new Volvos over the past 20 years. The experience with our 2023 XC-40 created such dissatisfaction with the brand we will NEVER own another Volvo. Electrical problems and no solution to fix them for months. No help from the local dealer, and absolutely no answers or help from Volvo USA. Volvo’s new price range compares to BMW and Mercedes, but the cars aren’t even close to the quality of those two brands. No surprise that their sales are way down!

Really poor experience with two…

Really poor experience with two dealerships. One (Swindon) offered me two finance plans that I'd said wouldn't pass the application and so impacted my excellent credit rating. Then they didn't bother to contact me to make a cash purchase of an XC40 for over a week and were too busy to speak to me when I called again. Went to another dealership (Oxford), lovely sales person, efficient etc. Paid for the XC40 went to collect, big reveal with it under a black sheet. The paintwork had been damaged by poor application of Supagard over tree sap and debris, there were other scratches to the body, debris in the boot and cup holders and water dripping from places. This isn't how I'd expect a brand new car collection to be. The very pushy Richard Grose took the vehicle around the back to buff the bonnet despite me saying I would come back on Monday as I had an appointment. He just stared at me. The buffing made things worse and created holograms and bloom. They told me to take the car home and 'wanted me to be happy'. I reluctantly took it home. I then called the following day to exercise my right to a 14 day rejection as it was a distance sale. The above Richard Grose asserted that legally I had to accept their offer to rectify the paintwork, this isn't true and in fact there was the consumer rights act 2015 right to satisfactory goods and as described. It became very stressful and required for me to pay for legal support to get them to accept my right to reject and I had to contact Volvo UK. They could have said that from the start. The car is uncomfortable anyway and lolls about on the road and rolls into Cornes and the breaks are scarily not very reactive.

I genuinely love my Volvo EX30

I bought my Volvo EX30 performance Ultra in May 2024. The problems started already at delivery:

The winter tires were loose in the trunk without any protection, with the charging cable tangled underneath. The car had extremely low charge.

The center console was stuck, and the car had to be taken straight to the workshop.

Later, Bilia installed Volvo's original dashcam. It never worked. After many emails and no response, it finally had to be removed. Bilia covered that cost, and I got back what it had cost. So far, so good!

After the removal, a new problem emerged – the seatbelts on both the driver's and passenger's sides stopped retracting. At exactly the same time. It's very hard to believe that this would be a coincidence.

Throughout the entire subsequent process, communication has been non-existent, with stalling tactics. Neither warranty nor Selekt helped. No one took overall responsibility. Not Bilia or Volvo. I was bounced back and forth without any answers.

If you're considering buying a Volvo, you should think twice. If something goes wrong, you're completely on your own. I have lost all trust in Volvo.

Despite all this, the Volvo EX30 is the most fun car I've ever had. I genuinely love my Volvo EX30. However, my experiences with both @VolvoCarSverige have made me seriously consider selling it, simply to avoid Volvo’s unwillingness to take responsibility for its own warranty obligations and the ongoing delays in its communication with me as a customer. #VolvoEX30 #VolvoCarSverige

Love the car, but Volvo UK are useless and expensive.

Absolutely useless and extremely overpriced.

I have owned many cars but never a Volvo. I have always liked the look of the S60 so I recently bought a used one.

The car has a FULL Volvo history so I was interested in keeping it up.

In the service book there are just dated and mileage so I assumed Volvo kept a digital online record of what was done on each service.

I was wrong, Volvo UK just told me I would have to call the garages that did the services, I tried a couple but got nowhere so complete waste of time and effort! I wanted to know if plugs & brake fluid had been done recently, nobody could tell me!

I visited my local Volvo Dealer but they said they couldn't see anything done at another Dealer (ALL Dealers were Marshalls!)

I asked how much a simple Oil & Filter change would be while I work out what else needs doing.... I was told OVER £600.... this is a mid-range Volvo, not a Porsche! I politely declined and a local garage that I trust are doing Oil, Filter, Plugs and Brake Fluid for less than Volvo wanted for an hours work and Oil/Filter.

Absolutely LOVE the car but Volvo UK gets 1☆
