Canceled flight for no reason and came…
Canceled flight for no reason and came up with ridiculous rules just to squeeze extra money out of passengers. If you have the option to choose another airline, I definitely recommend doing so.
My flight was cancelled and I was…
My flight was cancelled and I was stranded in Helsinki for 24 hours. When I tried to claim my reimbursement, they denied it by claiming it was unforeseeable technical reasons.
After I submitted a request at Airhelp, they again tried to deny it by claiming that Airhelp can't prove they are representing me "because of the anonymity of the internet".
Such a petty company.
Big disservice and absolutely unprofessional and predatory behaviour
My experience with Finnair has been extraordinarily disappointing, not only because of the original disruption but, even more so, because of the arbitrary and predatory manner in which the company has subsequently handled my reimbursement claim.
During the same trip, my baggage was delayed on BOTH the outbound and the return journey. This was not a minor inconvenience: I had to change my travel plans and purchase necessary items while waiting 4 days for my luggage. Nonetheless I understand that these things can happen. The real issue is the way Finnair has handled my subsequent reimbursement claim, in a manner that I consider arbitrary, opaque and bordering on deceptive/fraudolent.
Following my return, I submitted a reimbursement claim supported by the requested receipts and documentation. The expenses were incurred directly as a consequence of the baggage delay and, to the best of my understanding, were fully consistent with Finnair’s own published policy concerning reasonable and necessary purchases in the event of delayed baggage. I only bought some personal hygiene items and the cheapest available basic clothes(e.g.,underpants, socks, 2 t-shirts, etc.)
Finnair nevertheless decided to arbitrarily reduce my reimbursement by 75 €. The most troubling part is not even the reduction itself. It is the complete refusal to explain it.
I repeatedly asked Finnair to tell me which specific expenses had been considered unreasonable or unnecessary, which items had been rejected or partially reimbursed, and how they had arrived at their conclusion.
Their answer was essentially that, following their assessment, “the reimbursable amount was determined to be XXX euro.” That is not an explanation. No item-by-item breakdown. No indication of which expenses were rejected. No reasoning. No reference to any specifics.
These expenses arose because Finnair delayed my baggage, twice, and my claim concerns Finnair’s responsibility and Finnair’s own published reimbursement policy.
At this stage, the decision appears entirely arbitrary and I consider this kind of claims handling predatory in its purpose and effect: a company reduces a documented reimbursement claim by an unexplained amount and apparently expects the customer simply to accept the loss, knowing that many people will probably not have the time or energy to keep challenging a relatively small sum.
If Finnair believes part of my claim is not reimbursable it should be able to say which part and why. That is a very basic standard of transparency and accountability.
Baggage delayed on both legs of the journey was bad enough. Having my reimbursement claimed denied did not improve the situation. Having to repeatedly chase Finnair merely to look for an explanation for an apparently arbitrary reimbursement decision has made the experience considerably worse. Incurring in additional unfair 75 € loss will make it my worst experience with an airline until now.
I would strongly advise other passengers to stay away from this very unprofessional airline and the competent authorities to look into this kind of behavior.
Appalling customer service is terrible…
Appalling customer service is terrible policies, stay away
WORST EXPIRIANCE
WORST AIRLINE FOR HANDLING BAGGAGE. I flew with Finnair from Los Angeles to Helsinki, and they somehow managed to lose my luggage, even though I saw them take it off the plane before we were supposed to take off. Now they’re reporting it as missing. I will personally never fly with Finnair again
Great experience and support overall
Great experience and support overall. Friendly staff and great people.
Our experience with Finnair was a nightmare start to a holiday.
Our experience with Finnair was appalling. Avoid this predatory airline at all costs.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, my partner unfortunately missed her outbound FinnAir flight to Finland and had to book another flight with a different airline for the following day. Frustrating, but these things happen. What we did not expect on top of that was to discover that Finnair had then cancelled her perfectly valid return flight home simply because she had missed the outbound leg.
What followed was an absurd and stressful ordeal that consumed the beginning of a much-needed holiday. We spent hours on international calls, running up a substantial phone bill while sitting on hold, battling useless AI chatbots and speaking to customer-service agents whose repeated response was: “I don’t know, that’s just the policy.”
We subsequently learned that this “no-show” practice of cancelling return tickets has been enough of a problem that the EU is banning the practice, with new consumer rights coming into play next year. You would think that would be reason enough for an airline to phase out what has been identified as an unethical practice, but no, FinnAir are apparently happy to continue cheating their passengers until they’re legally forced to stop.
Instead, Finnair offered to reinstate the return journey they themselves had cancelled IF my partner paid the current fare difference AND a penalty on top, which added up to a higher total cost than the price of a new ticket. For a ticket she’d already paid for! Adding insult to injury, we were given a short deadline to accept this “offer” before it was withdrawn.
This is how the beginning of our holiday was spent: on hold, arguing over a return ticket we had already paid for and never asked Finnair to cancel. We couldn’t enjoy ourselves until we knew my partner had secured a flight home.
In the end, even though it added another night of travelling, she chose to take a train and ferry to another country and fly home from there rather than have to deal with Finnair any further.
Don’t let the complimentary blueberry juice deceive you. FinnAir are an exploitative and predatory company. It’s a racket. Like being forced to pay “protection” money to the person threatening to burn down your business, FinnAir use anti-consumer policies to demand more money to undo problems they themselves create. I will never fly with them again. Avoid at all costs.
Absolutely predatory company. All sorts of trickery to scam the client
I got SCAMMED by Finnair. I bought a round trip and I did not use the first flight (Helsinki to Rovaniemi) due to health issues of a family member. So I booked a new ticket the same way but a day later. Even though I paid for two flights in the first ticket, when I tried to fly back from Rovaniemi I couldn't believe that Finnair denied me flying back to Helsinki. They said my 2nd flight was automatically cancelled due to "terms & conditions". These terms are NOT stated at any prominent place and are lost among tens of pages of small font, meant to purposefully mislead the client with trickery. I was shocked that Finnair would keep me from returning home in a plane that was half empty. This is something ABSOLUTELY PREDATORY that not even Ryanair would do. I had to buy a new ticket for 160€. Honestly, I would have never expected that a company that represents Finnish values like Finnair would do such a thing. This is profoundly disturbing.
I must also emphasize that, for the first ticket, the price of buying each flight (way) separately was the same as buying them in a single ticket. So I could have just bought them in two separate tickets and then Finnair would have never cancelled my 2nd flight. So what difference would it have made for Finnair if I would have just bought the two ways separately? None. Did I get a lower price? No. I just fell for Finnair’s trap, so congratulations, your predatory trickery to squish money out of the customer worked perfectly. Plus my afternoon was ruined at the airport trying to solve this issue.
IF you have other options dont book…
IF you have other options dont book them.
Our only checked suitcase, containing belongings for our family, was delayed for two days in Iceland. We spent approximately €200 on basic toiletries and essential clothing, with receipts.
Finnair responded with an automated email offering only €50, without explaining how this amount was calculated. They later admitted they had initially assessed the delay incorrectly as one day instead of two, but after reassessment they still refused to change the amount or provide an itemized explanation.
After several attempts to resolve this directly with Finnair, I have now submitted the case to the European Consumer Centre (ECC).
Very disappointing, particularly because of the lack of transparency in the claims process.
Absolute scammers
Absolute scammers. They charged me €60 because, according to them, I was carrying two bags even though my ticket only included one. I had a small bag measuring 20 × 30 × 35 cm and a tiny handbag.
The receipt they gave me stated “bag retired at the boarding gate,” falsely implying that my bag was too large to be taken on board and had therefore needed to be checked in. That was simply not the case. I can only assume they worded it that way to protect themselves against potential complaints.
When I pointed out that the receipt did not reflect the real reason for the charge—the fee was supposedly for allowing me to take my tiny handbag on board, while my other bag was within the permitted dimensions for a small bag—I asked them to issue a receipt stating the correct reason for the payment. I was effectively told that I could either accept that receipt or be denied boarding.
An absolutely disgraceful company. Never again.
Finnair is the worst company we’ve ever…
Finnair is the worst company we’ve ever had the displeasure of flying with in our lives - our flight was delayed with little notice, and the crew was extremely unhelpful in helping us figure out the next steps. They refused to allow us to get our baggage despite our insistence that we had important medication in our hold luggage that we would need - side note, their customer service is appalling, people shouldn’t be treated like they’re somehow burdening staff by asking them politely to do duties associated with their job role. Our flight was then delayed again the next day, with everyone waiting at the gate - we only received the email that it was cancelled three minutes before we were due to take off. There was no announcement over the intercom or any staff at the gate, and the rest of us only noticed via the gate silently being taken off the departures tracking board. There is no allergen options or meal options on board, and almost every meal contains dairy allergens with no other option. After arriving in our destination, they have lost our bags and have been very little help. A truly terrible airline - avoiding it is worth the extra costs for other airlines.
Inequality affecting babies
I purchased two flight tickets: one for myself (an adult) and one for my baby (under two years old). This is the first time I have been charged for a ticket for a six-month-old baby, given that the child sits on my lap and does not occupy a separate seat. The issue is that, despite paying for the baby's ticket, the fare does not include a carry-on bag for essentials like diapers, clothes, a bottle, etc. Babies should have the same right as adults to bring their belongings in a small bag—especially when we have paid for their ticket. I hope you will take these factors into consideration when selling flights in the future.
Terrible website for booking!!
Terrible website for booking!!! When you announce your dates and class, a price is announced for the requested return ticket, but actually picking a flight is incomprehensible and after having fiddled with it for 10 min., the final price is totally different. Also, it is not clear from the beginning how long the layover is. I asked for help from a friend who is a travel agent, and he shared my view. I ended up buying the ticket on Expedia via BA/JAL which I really did not want to do, as I would rather support a fellow Nordic company. How many people simply give up, I wonder?
Zero customer service, questionable "operations"
Flights are being canceled on extremely short notice for no apparent reason. There is no information or customer service available. It is impossible to talk to a real person, everything is handled by AI. Finnair used to be a high-quality airline, definitely not anymore. Will avoid flying with them in the future.
So... maybe its not the agents afterall.
So, Yes Finnair is frustratingly difficult but today I spoke to a lovely agent after the company has clearly tried using AI as a first stop in their customer care instead of a LIVE agent. When i Finally got to speak to someone Margarita was so polite she not once became frustrated or impatient and I was asking alot from her Im not going to lie. She did what that AI agent could not. Calm my apprehensions and helped me solve an issue.
This is the WORST airline I have ever…
This is the WORST airline I have ever flown. I travel a lot and have never been so frustrated with service. The overhead compartments were so tiny that not even my personal item would fit and they would not allow it to be under my feet or under the seat of an empty spot. They asked me to take things out of my bag and put it in the overhead bin next to my bag so it would all fit. I told them I would not do that because my things would be lost. They were lot helpful or understanding. I will never do business with this company again.
Rude and unhelpful customer service…
Rude and unhelpful customer service staff. I wanted to check I could bring an item as the baggage I'd paid for. Without justification she just said no, no refunds or transfer, money lost. I'm dreading the flight if this is what the ground staff is like. The kind of service you'd expect from a budget airline.
we paid for our chairs which we didn't get and sit far from eachother
we paid for our chairs, somewhere in the middle, above the wing to sit together. We flew from Incheon Seoul , My wife on seat 60B and me on the last line against the toilet at 66D. I tried to fill in the claim form but you could only go to a certain point, and if you push 'continue' it didn't work. We flew often with Finnair but it will be my last time. Next year 4 tickets will go to another company. At least I should have my money back. But no way to get in contact with them.
Poor customer support
I needed to book a flight with my bicycle for a race. I spoke to customer support before to confirm before booking my flight, but after booking they said it wasn't possible to add a bike. A nightmare.
However, what will make me avoid this airline is their poor customer support. Took 1:30hrs to get connected on the chat, they have no solutions (other than book a new flight or ship the bike separately through postal service) and ended the chat while it was unresolved. I'm surprised a European customer support policy can be so poor. I'd happy pay more to be with a company who invests in their customer support - so if you're like me, avoid Finnair!
Finnair is smooth! (AMS > HEL > ROV & ROV > HEL > AMS)
I love Finnair!
I took the AMS > HEL > ROV and the ROV > HEL > AMS
The airplane from AMS to HEL and from HEL to AMS was very nice! I got some free blueberry juice, i watched a movie, you could also play some music, watch a serie, play some games and you got free earbuds.
There was also a flight cam and flight map that was very cool!
The flight attendants were very nice and helpful.
The booking and in-check progress was very smooth
The airplane from HEL to ROV and from ROV to HEL was smaller and didnt have all that stuff, in the flight from ROV to HEL they just forgot to give out their blueberry juice
The plane from AMS > HEL had some delay tho so i almost missed the HEL > ROV flight
But i'm very happy with Finnair. I definetly recommend it!
