The seats are so close together that I can barely breathe properly, and there isn’t even enough room for hand luggage. Thanks to the airlines, it feels like they’ve managed to squeeze 300 people into a plane designed for 150!
And it’s not just Lufthansa; it’s most airlines these days. Passenger comfort seems to matter less and less, while making as much profit as possible has become the priority.
Sometimes it feels like this world is designed for the extremely wealthy—the richest 2%—while ordinary people are expected to put up with everything, pay more, and have fewer rights.
It’s frustrating how basic comfort and dignity are increasingly treated as luxuries rather than something everyone deserves.

Want to shop at the airport? Don't fly Lufthansa

Lufthansa has discovered a new revenue stream: your airport shopping.

On 5 November I flew from Copenhagen to Houston via Frankfurt: economy to Frankfurt, business class onwards. I had one carry-on and one personal item, well within the rules. I even asked at check-in, and was told everything was fine.

Then I made a classic mistake: I went shopping at CPH.

At the gate, the shopping bag was declared illegal. It had to live inside my personal item. Once it did, my personal item no longer fit the sizer. The fee cost more than the bag, so I held a small funeral for my bag at the gate bin. Luckily I had a spare soft bag in my carry-on. I'm now considering packing a spare bag for the spare bag.

When I politely asked whether this was really necessary, a second staff member offered me an alternative: stay in Copenhagen. Threatening a passenger for asking a question is not funny, and not acceptable.

Here's the part that is funny: Ryanair lets you carry airport purchases on top of your cabin bag, and so do low-cost airlines like Wizz Air. Lufthansa, the premium choice, does not.

The cabin crew were lovely as always. But if you like to shop before you fly, choose an airline with a more relaxed relationship with shopping bags.

Worst Customer Service Ever

Worst Customer Service Ever – Absolutely Unacceptable!

Lufthansa has some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Emails go unanswered, and a claim I submitted 8 months ago is still unresolved, with no updates, explanation, or proper communication.

For such a large international airline, this level of customer service is an absolute embarrassment. There is no accountability, no follow-up, and absolutely no respect for customers.

Eight months without a resolution is beyond ridiculous. Lufthansa should be ashamed of how it treats its customers. Extremely disappointing and unprofessional!

Worst

I fly very often, and I can honestly say flight LH 2272 on November 3 (4 PM departure) was the worst flight experience I've ever had.

We specifically paid extra to bring our carry-on suitcase on board. Yet one of the flight attendants forced us to shove it under the seat in front of us, even though there was clearly free space in the overhead bins. I politely asked if I could at least swap it with my smaller bag, so the suitcase could go in the overhead bin and the bag under the seat. She refused, with an attitude I can only describe as unbearable: dismissive, rude, and completely unwilling to listen.

So we paid for a service we didn't get, spent the flight cramped with no legroom, and got treated like a nuisance for asking a simple, reasonable question. Lufthansa, if you charge for cabin baggage, the least you can do is let passengers use the space they paid for, and train your crew to treat customers with basic respect.

One star, and only because zero isn't an option.

Cheap German Hair splitters

Lufthansa used to be the German prime airline. Now it's a cheap firm with bad service. My teenage sisters travelled alone for the first time, and had a small luggage each that easily fit under the seat. The airline at boarding refused them entrance and also didn't let them pay in cash which I gave them for emergencies. Cheap airline, petty German 'hair splitters'

Forced gate-check on a full flight, again

I paid for a ticket that includes carry-on baggage. At the gate, I was told to hand over my bag because the flight was full. In my experience this happens again and again on Lufthansa: flights are packed, and passengers are routinely made to gate-check bags they paid to keep with them.
I paid for a service and did not receive it as sold. Lufthansa should either make room for the carry-on it sells or be upfront about it when selling tickets.

Worst stuff

Worst stuff. Especially considering that I called them before my problem occured because I feared what miglt happen. Extremly bad customer service. They did overcharge me at the airport to pay more and when I ask about my refund as a costumer which is my RIGHT, they dont answer or the let the ai-helper tell me nonsense. Boycott them.

Worst customer service ever

Their customer service is the worst I've ever experienced, offered a refund with no clarity, when I asked for clarity, they said they weren't offering a refund. Will not speak to you on the phone and take forever to respond to emails. If they respond to this asking me to get in touch, they aren't interested and its to try and dismiss this review only. Shambles.

Paying extra for nothing

For a round trip, I bought the inbound ticket as simple economy fare, for the return I payed more for a "fully flexible", that would allow me to reschedule my flight or get a refund. When I tried to get a refund they said it applies the conditions for the most restricted flight. That is, I payed extra for a service I did not get. Absurd. Calling Lufthansa means you're talking with someone with a strong accent in some Asian country. And they are lost.

Their staff is rude as hell

Their staff is rude as hell. My bag was .3 kilo over the 8k limit (on a 1 hour connecting flight to all of my other flights that have a 12k limit. I was like no problem, I have my jacket in there I’ll just pull it out. And she started screaming that I was not getting on the flight at all. They had to call extra people to come help me and move her to the side because she was so hysterical. The flight itself was worse and someone stole my carry on off the flight. When I asked about it one flight attendant spent 10 minutes looking for it before talking to another person who was like yeah some guy took it and left a couple of buses ago. Apparently they can’t contact the bus or airport from the plane and I would just have to put in a complaint at lost and found and miss my next flight. I still missed my next flight because they kept shifting us to different border control doors with one person checking passports and thousands (not an exaggeration) of people. They do not care- they said I could deal with my airline or live in the airport they don’t care. Needless to say, I will never fly with them again or suggest anyone else does. It’s not worth it.

Lufthansa cancelled both of my flights, then spent three days refusing to help

I write this review with regret, and precisely, because precision is what Lufthansa's handling of my case has lacked from the first hour.

I held a confirmed Premium Economy booking (reference BBVK9M) with Lufthansa: Los Angeles to Frankfurt on 26 October 2026 (LH457), connecting to Dubai on 27 October (LH630), with paid and confirmed seats, two checked bags, and — Lufthansa may wish to note — an upgrade bid I had placed in good faith on the second flight. On 23 October, Lufthansa cancelled the Frankfurt–Dubai flight, citing "operational reasons". It subsequently cancelled my 26 October departure from Los Angeles as well.

Cancellation is not the offence. Airlines cancel flights; passengers understand. The offence is everything that followed.

Over three days of telephone calls, Lufthansa offered me nothing that the law recognises as assistance. Under Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, a passenger whose flight is cancelled is entitled to re-routing "under comparable transport conditions" to his final destination "at the earliest opportunity" (Articles 5 and 8). What I was offered, repeatedly, was Economy class — a cabin below the one I had purchased — on routings with three stops and total journey times of some sixty-six hours, including on carriers such as EgyptAir. These were not comparable conditions, and they were not the earliest opportunity. They were an abdication, presented as a service.

Worse was the manner of it. On call after call, agents informed me that my voice could not be heard — and then continued to answer what I had just said. I asked, many times, to be connected to a supervisor or a manager. I was told one would be found; then that none could be found. In three days, no supervisor and no manager ever came on the line. I leave it to any reasonable reader to judge whether a company of Lufthansa's size simply has no supervisors, or whether a passenger was being managed rather than assisted.

The financial consequences — a non-refundable hotel in Dubai, a rental car, a business schedule built around a confirmed arrival — matter to me less than the principle. A passenger who has done everything correctly, booked early, paid for his seat, and complied with every instruction is entitled to honesty when the carrier's own operations fail. I received scripted evasion instead.

I will pursue the compensation due under Article 7 of Regulation 261/2004 through the proper channels, and, if Lufthansa does not resolve this, before the German conciliation board (SÖP) that Lufthansa itself names on its passenger-rights page. I make no threat in this review; I simply record that I know my rights, and that three days of being told "we cannot hear you" do not extinguish them.

I cannot recommend this airline. Not because it cancelled a flight — but because of how it treats a passenger when it does.

— Omid Ahmadi, Los Angeles

My luggage was delayed for three days

My luggage was delayed for three days. As a result, I had to spend €73 on cosmetics and toiletries while I was without my belongings.

I submitted my receipts and explained why I had made these purchases. Lufthansa rejected my claim, arguing that I had not adequately justified the need for them. I explained the circumstances again, only to have the refusal maintained.

I understand that airlines need to assess reimbursement claims. What i find annoying is their refusal to acclaim the need of cosmetics purchases after leaving you without suitcase for 3 days...and the need to explain to them WHY i need them like it's not obvious...

Lufthansa apologised for the inconvenience, but an apology does not resolve the practical consequences of a problem. I am left €73 out of pocket and with the impression that getting a claim fairly considered is harder than it should be.

I expected better from an airline of Lufthansa's reputation. This experience has significantly damaged my trust in its customer service and i'm not even mentioning the 1 hour delay of the flight. My advice to everyone is to stay away from that airline.

I gave 1 star but they desserve nothing , i have called them 5 days on the row to solve a prob for the tickets but so far they just passed from an agent to another and let us on hold and after 10 mins hangged up the phone. I don't know but is this a real company or a fake one. How come you are kidding with the people who trust you. Shame on you . We will never ever fly with Lufthansa again.

Lufthansa managed to lose my bags on a simple, straightforward route, and trying to get them back has been a Kafkaesque nightmare. Their tracking system is completely useless and has shown the exact same automated status for days. When you call, the representatives just read from a script, offer zero actual updates, and refuse to let you speak with a supervisor. It is clear they have completely outsourced and abandoned their baggage operations. If you actually want your belongings to arrive at your destination, do not trust this airline.
