How EON have treated my 85 year old Mum…

I persuaded my 85 year old Mum to have smart meters as her meters were very old and she also could no longer read them. Little did we know what an utter shambles EON would be.

It took two visits to fit the meters as the first EON Engineer didn't have the right spanner! So I had to be there on both occasions to support my mum.

The smart meters have been dumb from the start (7 weeks ago) and despite us sending photos of the meters, tags, readings a number of times when asked for by EON, still nothing.

We have sent manual readings to customer support ( I have to get these off the meters for my Mum) as the EON website only allows us to enter manual gas readings. If we enter manual electricity readings it either accepts them and they then disappear or it says something has gone wrong.

We have asked Customer Services for an electricity bill twice (based on our manual readings) and they just send a gas bill!

We raised a Customer Complaint but that just seemed to be dealt with by the same Customer Services team and again nothing has happened.

So here we are 7 weeks later and my Mum is stressed out about everything. She blames me for persuading her to have smart meters.

I guess the next step is talking to my Mum about contacting the Energy Ombudsman and / or changing to a more reputable supplier

If a loved one has a stroke and is incapable and no LPA in place they do not care. Just threaten you with late payment fines and keep saying they cannot do anything due to data protection. Awful company to deal with. Has made my life and my brothers life a misery all they care about is money.

Not the only customer to feel offended..

Further to the review posted by Oliver M for EON energy, we had exactly the same experience..always in credit then suddenly a demand that we treble our direct debit despite our efforts to be energy efficient, coupled with a notice of a massive one-off payment because we were not using as much energy "as predicted"... total hogwash which, for pensioners, leaves a really nasty taste in the mouth..what is going on here?

I've been a customer of Eon for around…

I've been a customer of Eon for around a year.
Up until very recently I couldn't have said a bad word against them as a company. Ok rates for their supply, good app.. that's all that's really needed.

Today though I got an email and I am paraphrasing here of course but it essentially said "even though your account is in credit and has been for the entire time you've been our customer, we're increasing your direct debit by three times what you pay now and you must also pay a one off payment"

I give very regular meter readings.
My account has always been in credit as I continuously use less than I pay for yet they estimated and calculated that because I moved recently then surely I will be using more.

This tiresome squeezing for cash that we're feeling from corporate bodies is genuinely fatiguing.

I had the same thing with Thames Water just a few weeks ago. It's deranged and delusional and not justified in the slightest.

I give all of the real world information required and yet at the flick of a switch I'm expected to pay far beyond my use of a service and beyond my means. It's not ok, it's far from ok.

Up until today I was a happy and quiet customer. But no, eon have joined the ranks of the rest of them

Absolutely disgusting experience from…

Absolutely disgusting experience from E.ON my 91 year old nan had nothing but hassle from you, we were leaving eon to join octopus because the prices were loads cheaper and she got nothing but letter after letter saying she still owed money which is distressing as it is never mind to a 91 year old woman! We paid the bill but unfortunately one of the references were wrong so they didn’t receive it properly so they sent my nan threatening letters continuously which I found absolutely appalling from an actual business, why couldn’t you just ring us and we would have sorted it?!? I wouldn’t even advise my enemy to join eon after this experience!

Renewed my plan at the end of September. A day before the new plan started they found a "shortfall" and wanted £200 one off payment or an increase of £15 per month on my DD. Not happy. Been with them since 2022 but have lost confidence in their renewal procedure. Likely to leave when the current plan expires.

Bring energy sector back into public hands

I have been in contact with eon through what’s app and by telephone since the 24 August to ask for a refund as I have switched to a different supplier and had money left over in the account. It appears that only when eon has raised a complaint about itself, which they did on 9 October, that they then have 8 weeks to resolve the issue. Found this out by raising a complaint with the energy ombudsman who can only act after eons 8 weeks are up.
What a ridiculous situation.

Very friendly technician when turning up to install new meters. Once there was a fault, their systems are not set up to work for the customer. Missing follow-ups, working on a schedule of 8 weeks when looking into fault searching. I've left for another provider. Would recommend not to be a customer of this company if ever you need anything fixed.

Awful customer experience

My experience with E.ON has been extremely disappointing. Since 1 September, I have repeatedly tried to establish an agreed Direct Debit, only to receive multiple written assurances from the same representative that were never followed through.

Despite raising a formal complaint, I continued receiving payment demands, was incorrectly charged a £15 late-payment fee and was contacted by the collections team. I've spent countless hours chasing something that should have been straightforward.

The lack of communication, accountability and follow-through has been unacceptable. I've completely lost confidence in E.ON and have decided to settle my outstanding balance and switch energy suppliers.

I would not deal with E.On again

I would not deal with E.On again. We contracted them for a PV and Battery installation. The sales process was fine, but at the point where installation was arranged they became very difficult to deal with. They changed the date, didn’t turn up when booked, would turn up out of the blue. Turned up without any of their materials and made out that that was somehow my fault. Their contractors were rude and disrespectful of my property. E.On promised a “green install” but contractors all turned up in the own vehicles and the equipment was delivered in a 10 year old ex Kwik Fit van. A 1-2 day install took about a month, only because we started to chase the contractors and subcontractor's ourselves. E.On would not respond to any calls (despite several promises to phone us back) or emails.

We are now nearly 3 months since the equipment was installed and have still not heard from E.On about DNO certification, meaning I cannot sell surplus energy. I have no paperwork certifying the equipment as safe, and have alerted E.On to incorrect installation (wrong wiring colour) and roof damage with no reply.

After several calls which were logged as complaints, and a recorded delivery written complaint which was recorded as accepted at their Nottingham HQ we have had ZERO contact from them. We raised an issue with HEIS, and E.On said we had never complained to them, despite all the evidence to the contrary, so HEIS closed the case, but told me E.On would be in touch. A week has now passed and to no surprise, they have not.

I’m hopeful that publicly shaming them might illicit a response. I now have absolutely no faith that their warranty is worth the paper it is written on, because if they can’t communicate during an installation, then how will we ever get repairs done.

I’m disappointed in the customer care…

I’m disappointed in the customer care that I’ve received from Eon recently having been a loyal customer for well over five years now after moving out of my house and purchasing a new one I knew I wanted to use Eon again as they had always had good deals and been fairly easy to liaise with when I had any issues, we come to moving into a new property and on the day that we moved in I compared energy deals across the market and found an energy deal by eon that I felt would suit us. This was the next Smart saver fixed 24 months version 7. I know this is the deal that I chose because I went directly on eon’s website signed up on their website portal and selected that deal specifically because that is what I wanted for our tariff. Fast forward to when Eon was setting up our energy deal I had an email to say that we were being set up with the tariff Net flex and I immediately emailed and asked why we were being set up on the flex tariff when I had picked the Next Smart saver tariff I was told they have not yet supplied our energy and so this would change once we were supplied then comes the day that we are supplied with our energy and again we are set up with the Next flex tariff as a customer, I would never select the Next flex tariff especially in the current climate of energy prices and I had fixed in as it was before the price rise in October. When I questioned this I was asked for proof as to what I selected and luckily I held screenshots of what I selected on the day despite this evidence and explaining and chasing prior to our energy going live I have not been honoured this deal and I’ve now had to select a different deal version 10 with higher rates despite this being no fault of my own. I was also told that I might not have selected the tariff that I definitely did select! I have been selecting my own energy tariffs for many years as a homeowner and know for a fact that all that was present on the screen was the Next smart saver V7 tariff and that is what I selected and locked in that evening before the price cap had risen. It’s very poor customer service to offer no sort of resolution other than just selecting a new tariff as I didn’t want a new tariff I wanted the tariff that I had chosen. I’ve looked for a different deal however the price cap has now risen so it’s very disappointing that this is the way a loyal customer has been treated. There’s been no form of compensation offered and there’s been no offer to see a resolution other than you just need to select a different deal despite having the evidence of those screenshots and clear evidence that I was chasing the deal that I had signed up for. Eon will know full well the reason they don’t want to honour this as the prices are now all higher. Im now a customer with them on the higher fixed deal in my new home and they have not even contacted me to send out an IHD which as a new customer here we will obviously not have. Disappointing as previously I would recommend Eon to family and friends. We’re in a new house with no internet etc so I don’t have the capacity to take a complaint further at this time but I was prompted for a review via email so have decided to be honest about this latest experience.

Pikey thieves

Pikey thieves, been paying double what I use energy wise since I joined and when I ask for the extra £450 back they keep fobbing me off and dodging the request to return that. saying we’ll get that processed and update you and then the same thing when you ask for an update.
Cancelling my contract and going elsewhere even if it’s 10% more expensive

Lording over my money like some sort of criminal banking enterprise

Smart Saver fixed works for me

Cheapest supplier I can find for my lifestyle on the current tart if if I am on. Switching tariffs is also really easy via the app should your circumstances change. I have found customer service to be good. Happy with the service to date. Many thanks. Providing prices stay competitive for my needs. Have no reason to switch. Currently in the Smart Saver fixed. I hope they bring out a new version of this when my current tariff runs out please Eon.

Rip Off

Wrote to me to say my current tariff is ending and I now need to pay double. My income doesn't double so how do their multi millionaire owners expect people to keep paying these unrealistic extortionate prices?
