Terrible type of subscription with hidden gotchas, use ChatGPT to help you understand your T&Cs
It takes me more than a month to finish a book. I usually go for self development books and I need to read them a few times for the concepts to sync in. So I stop my subscription from time to time while I'm listening to a book. The Standard plan is confusing as hell now. I had to ask ChatGPT to interpret what the Terms and Conditions were saying. And it seems like a terrible deal. You lose all access to your book unless you pay 5.99 a month. It's like paying for a storage place on a book shelf so you can put that one book and get a new book each month. All good as long as you keep doing it. If you stop, you lose everything. Thank goodness for ChatGPT to explain the deal I got. I'll now cancel this subscription. And I'll likely try to find other alternatives to Audible. I feel like Amazon is really dropping the ball with the customer obsession that they were so famous for (at least in the, now 14, leadership principles). So long, Audible.
I really didn't want to become this complaining person but...
So many online companies now hide behind useless chatbots.
For the fourth year running Audible has removed titles from series I have bought to access for life - well I say life, one year to the next will do. Audible no longer wants to hear from its customers - which is ironic based on it selling its service based on listening.
instead I either sit and type "something else/other" on constant loop with a very chatty chatbot who loves repeating itself - or leave a number that no human rings me back on
My fourth online company this year to fail to offer a decent customer services - am I REALLY this unlucky?
Thank god for chatbots I have yet to hear ANYONE mutter

Awful company I joined amazon prime and audible started taking money by default its impossible to cancel I ended up using my bank to block them.

payment on audible wasn't going through. After an hour on chat to support they couldn't determine what the error was and told me to contact my bank/credit card company. That's an hour of my life i won't get back and with [not] helpful error messages such as "Something went wrong, try again later" there's no way i'm going to be able to solve it.
Audible UK Customer Service a Waste of Time
Audible UK. Trying to get an order payment problem resolved was like trying to wade through treacle!!! Absolutely no help from customer service live chat - gave up as a waste of my time!
Quite shocked by how bad…
I'm actually quite shocked by how bad Audible's Customer Service is. I've been a loyal customer since 2019, often buying extra credits and making cash purchases in addition to my monthly membership. I've had 2 bad experiences over the 12 months where I've had to argue, convince, prove and beg for resolution of my issue/complaint. Although I don't blame the customer service agents personally, it's like they're trained/instructed to not give in to your request, or low-ball your recompense/compensation/refund. A simple request can easily escalate into a complaint and both times I've had to engage with Audible Customer Service, I've come away feeling, frustrated, unsatisfied and underappreciated.
Audible are theives
Audible are theives. 4 years I have paid for this. All my books are gone. 3 hours trying to sort it and no they cut me off. Yet tonight they took the subscription fee!. Theives. Dont trust them.
Six months no refund for duplicate charges
Six months, triple charge still unresolved - no refund from Audible
I've been an Audible member for 14 years and purchased over 360 titles, but I've been trying to resolve a simple billing issue since February 2026.
Audible triple-charged me £117.04 for the Defiance of the Fall series after their system failed during checkout. Two payments were initially rejected, then both cleared later, and I had to buy the books again in smaller groups.
Since then:
I've been told repeatedly that this is a "known issue affecting multiple customers", yet no one has contacted me in six months. I've received complimentary credits and free membership months, but not the actual refund I'm owed.
I'm posting here because every private attempt has failed.
I simply want the £117.04 refunded and a clear explanation why this has taken half a year.
I have been a member for about 10…
I have been a member for about 10 years, I would have given 5 stars up until June when my Amazon account was hacked, Amazon say there was no suspicious activity & they left it at that. I assume I realised what was going on& got off the phone before the scammers were able to get anything. I deleted my payment details for obvious reasons. I have lost the credit I had with audible. I can't contact anyone because I can't sign in to my account. All I can see is greed from both companies, loyalty means nothing. Sad because I encouraged lots of friends to try audible
Another customer scammed
Thankfully, this has ended up with a subscription to the far superior AudioBooks. Here are the shameful facts, however:
I set up a standard subscription, but no credits were available. I checked my bank statement and payment had gone through. I talked to someone on Live Chat who insisted my credit was available, and I "just had to find it". It was not there. I've purchased over 200 books on Audible so I know what to do. In the end, I clicked on a title and - without requesting any confirmation - I was told I had purchased the book as part of my new Premium Subscription. I asked that this be refunded and my Standard Subscription restored, since this was their mistake in the first place with the credit, and, secondly, with the unrequested upgrade. Nothing was done. I cancelled my subscription after wasting £8.99 on a service I had not requested and would never use.
The new format is awful
The new format is awful. You pay money to receive one credit per month, the book you purchase with the credit you only get to keep whilst you continue to pay a subscription. So you don't actually get to keep the book after paying for it which I find incredible. I would recommend to use another service or buy a physical copy to which you will actually own!!!!
Refund sorted quickly and professionally
Partner accidentally set up an account with one of my cards back in Nov 25 (we have a shared Amazon acc) realized her mistake and thought she'd cancelled it and set up a new one under her name. I noticed today they had been charging me each month. Spoke to an agent, explained the situation and they cancelled the account and refunded me all the payments which I had not signed in or used the account. So I can't ask for more than that, amazing service.
Will only update with further info if the refund doesn't come through, so if no more info added here, everything was golden.
Member of 16 years lost after misleading promotion and seven weeks of completely ignored complaints.
I have been an Audible member on and off since 2010 and have purchased approximately 130 titles. In June 2026 I received a promotional email offering membership at 99p per month for three months. I accepted, intending to purchase around 10 additional titles.
The email did not make clear that this was the new Audible Standard plan — a fundamentally different product from the credit-based membership I had used for 16 years which currently costs £8.99 per month. Under the new Standard plan, titles are only accessible while your membership is active. Cancel, and you lose them. Every one of my previous 130 purchases worked the opposite way: buy it, keep it forever. The email described the offer in terms indistinguishable from the old model. It also quoted £8.99 as the ongoing price - which indicates the original plan I have been on previously - yet the fine print said £5.99 — the cost of the quite different Standard plan. There was no explanation of why these two different ongoing cost figures were quoted in the same promotional e-mail.
When I signed up and visited the site, there was nothing to reassure me that my existing 130 titles were safe under the new plan's terms. I contacted chat in genuine alarm that my library was at risk.
The automated chat system then cancelled my membership without any confirmation step when I selected "Cancel Membership" as a topic I wanted to discuss. Before that, it had trapped me in a loop, repeatedly asking "What do you need help with today?" regardless of what I selected.
The agent who I eventually spoke with restored the plan and processed a refund. But when I expressed frustration, the agent told me "complaining is not a solution" and lectured me about it. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was refused. When I asked how to log a formal complaint, I was told no complaints procedure existed.
I then submitted a formal complaint by email to Audible's customer care address. Within one minute I received an automated reply saying the inbox is not monitored. I escalated to two Amazon executive email addresses. No response. I sent a follow-up two weeks later. No response. I sent a formal letter by recorded delivery to Audible's registered office. Confirmed delivered. No response.
Seven weeks. Four channels. Complete silence. I'm voting with my feet.
If you are considering Audible - you may want to consider the alternatives first:
For streaming only (not ownership of titles): Spotify Premium (yes really).
If you want to own the titles forever: Libro.fm (£7.99 per month - and titles not restricted to their app) or Kobo (£6.99 per month).
There are many more - including free eBook readers (such as Libby) from public libraries.

As soon as I have listened to what I have paid for I am closing my subscription.
I bought a sequel that has only recently been published to the first book I listened to about a year ago, so I needed to recap. I soon discovered that I had best listen to the whole thing again. When I moved from chapter two to three I found that the story had jumped ahead and that probably a whole chapter was missing. I am sure because I can remember exactly what happened in that gap. I contacted them and they removed the title and loaded it again anew, but this missing part remained missing. They gave me a free credit but did nothing about it and gave no explanation as to how this could happen.
I have also had books removed from my library without explanation but it could be political, but I did not get my money back.
As soon as I have listened to what I have paid for I am closing my subscription.

NO STARS-Set up new Audible…
NO STARS-Set up new Audible account, registered app to listen and straight away they locked my account for misuse of Amazon services. No way to contact, eventually phoned -customer service assistant total waste of time, did not have a clue.Gave me a number for department that cold take account off hold...surprise-NOT-the number does not exist.Cancelled card and asked bank to completely block Audible...will call again tomorrow to make sure they really are blocked after reading other reviews on here.
Audible used to have the best customer service department out there, they are now the WORST EVER.
Avoid this company at all costs-use the one that has drm files and supports bookshops-(LFM).
I have been an Audible customer for years-NEVER AGAIN!
Worst customer service / Enables Fraud
Worst customer service possible, I contacted them due to fraud using my card on their website and they tried to blame me for it and tell me it was my non existent family who used my card.
This card had been disabled already so I gave them the number of it and they said SORRY we can't do anything without the email associated to the account (the email the hacker used to make the account) obviously I am going to have this email aren't I.
This company does not give a damn about fraud and actively helps them use their site to commit fraud.
I got my money back through my bank, Audible is SHIT tier service that blames their customers.

I wish I had read the reviews first
I wish I had read the reviews first. I cancelled my subscription within 75 minutes of signing up. It is far from clear on the app how you discover which books are part of your subscription. I did a long winded chat with somebidy who clearly did not know his way around things. The number you are given puts you through to the USA who do not understand UK time zones. I was promised a call back which never happened
Customer service with @MarioMark…
Customer service with @MarioMark phenomenal. I had an issue (my own fault) and Mario quickly sorted the solution. I logged off before I had time to say thank you (again showing my lack of expertise). Thank you Mario!
