Sage Coffee Machine - Failed Repair
I have been debating whether or not to leave a review of my experience as I am not one to normally leave negative reviews of bad experiences. However, in this case for my own piece of mind, I feel obliged to leave a review and to warn others about using this company to repair their coffee machine, in my case a Sage Barista Express.
After 5 years of constant daily use and no problems, our machine was no longer dispensing water from the group head and there was no pressure.
I booked Syntrad through a third party booking app, and was then contacted to book an appointment. When visited, he seemed knowledgable and explained that the machine would need to be booked in, in order to fit a new part. The total cost of the repair was going to be £110 for labour + £51.60 for the part totalling £161.60. This in itself was a dilemma whether to proceed and in hindsight we should have just put the money towards a new machine.
The machine was returned after repair and Kaz was in a rush to get off, so there was a quick test at my property. While doing the testing, I did note that the steam wand was very slow but thought nothing more of it. We had a day of normal, nice coffee the following day and thought the machine was fine.
The following day, we noticed the machine would start to trip the fuse box in our property. This would happen 3 or 4 times, before finally working. I note that this had never happened in the previous 5 years of using the machine. As well as this, the steam wand would be painfully slow to heat the milk.
A week later and we were back to square one. The machine would not dispense any water and the pressure gauge did not rise. As well as this, the water was leaking through the bottom and back of the machine.
I contacted Kaz immediately with a video of the problem. The response was ‘there is no water in the filter. Why are you contacting me on my personal number, Is this a joke’. This was the worst moment of the whole experience for me and I couldn’t believe the attitude, after I had sent a simple video showing the machine not working. If the response was ‘sorry to see that, let me call you and see if we can diagnose the problem’ I would not be leaving this review. The reason I contacted on a personal number was because this was the number that was given to me himself when dropping off the machine. The water filter was full in the video, but leaking from the bottom and sides of the machine. After resending another video showing a full tank, the response was that it would cost £60/hour if it was something not related to their initial repair.
At this point, I had no interest in hearing back from Syntrad. If they are only concerned about additional money when £160 has already been spent then it shows a lot about their consideration for their clients. It is clear that the repair was not satisfactory and there should have been a full audit of the coffee machine while it was in the repair shop. The coffee machine should have been returned in full working order, which it was not. I have not received any further replies or any contact from to try to book in for another appointment. I feel very aggrieved at this experience, and we are now placing an order for a brand new Sage machine to move on from this.
