If zero stars were an option, even that would feel overly generous. I strongly advise avoiding this company altogether. They closed my partner’s account without providing any clear justification and retained the remaining balance. We were initially told the funds would be held for 30 days before being returned yet 57 days later, there has still been no refund.
Instead of resolving the issue, they continue to respond with vague, automated style excuses that offer no real accountability or timeline. This lack of transparency and professionalism is deeply concerning. I will now be escalating the matter further, as this experience has been nothing short of unacceptable.

Since I switched to Bunq a few months ago, managing my money has become a lot easier. Everything sits in one place, handling currencies abroad is no longer a headache, and the spending categorization tools make it easy to track where money goes every month. Support usually responds fast when a question comes up. More than happy to recommend this app.

@bunq you closed my account and are holding my money with no access and no communication.
Your app says I can withdraw funds as of April 29, but:
I can’t access the app
I received no email
I have no way to get my money
This is unacceptable. Please resolve this immediately or I will escalate to regulators.
I just want my funds returned.
Your support email is ai, please icneed human support.

Flagged as suspicious for paying my own rent
I’m an expat living in Europe with rental properties in Leipzig. I use my bunq account for completely normal things: collecting rental income, paying my own rent and bills, and occasionally sending money abroad via Wise.
bunq’s support team flagged my account under “flow-through activity” (Chapter 10.2 of their T&Cs), claiming money coming in and going out constitutes suspicious behaviour. When I pointed out that this is just how bank accounts work — money in, bills paid — I was told the assessment had been made by a “specialised team” and couldn’t be revisited.
So apparently, being an expat who receives rental income and pays international expenses is enough to get treated like a money launderer. Everything I do is legal, documented, and completely ordinary for anyone managing finances across borders.
The support agent (Finn) was polite, but ultimately had no power to do anything. The decision was final, unappealable, and frankly insulting. I was told to “stop using bunq for these transfers” — transfers that include paying my own rent.
If you’re an expat, a landlord, or anyone whose finances don’t fit a single-country, salary-in/groceries-out mould, be warned: bunq may treat you the same way.

I've wanted to try this bank and send 1k EUR via p2p transfer, getting confirmation from the support team beforehand that this won't be a problem. They didn't ship me my physical card, so I used apple pay and there was no problem with that. But at the end of the very first month, they just blocked my account. Out of the blue. Without any warnings whatsoever. Well, at least they let me transfer the leftovers of my money.
But that's a complete disappointment anyway, when financial institutions like this are on the market, advertising themselves as a hassle-free, "bank of the free" yet you can't rely on them.

There is a certain love to be had for transparency and some sense of honesty in the current market. Bunq has both, and on top of everything else the iOS app (can not confirm for Android) is extremely pleasant to use. Fast, simple, descriptive and above all devoid of the usual headaches. I've used their customer service twice, and both times my problem actually got remedied!

Arbitrarily places people on safety mode using AI severely restricting access to funds. Then good luck actually talking to someone to sort it out. The only way I did was file a formal complaint. The AI bot support did not help at all, but is good at coming across condescending.

Horrible onboarding process for business accounts. We're an NGO and it's been three weeks of running in circles to proof that we paid 600€ to the notary from our personal accounts. We've sent many different documents, payslips, etc., and nothing is good enough, it's a farce. Also, their personal data protection doesn't exist - they wanted me to send my payslip to my colleague to upload through her app. Unbelievable really.

I've been trying to transfer funds from Bunq since 26 March 2026. It is now 22 April. The transfers are to my own bank account from which the funds were initially sent to Bunq. I initially attempted to withdraw just the interest earned on the account. This triggered Bunq safety mode which allows withdrawals of €500 per day. The safety review takes up to 5 business days to complete. I tried again on 7 April to transfer some funds. Bunq triggered a second safety review of another 5 business days. I tried again on 16 April to transfer €1,000 to my own bank account and again Bunq triggered a third safety review of another 5 business days. It is not possible to reach a human at Bunq support, they use an AI bot. I made a complaint to Bunq support on 16 April and they sent a link to a report form to make a formal complaint. I tried again on 22 April to transfer €1,000 to my own bank account and again it seems that my Bunq account is still in safety mode with a €500 daily limit. This makes a total of 4 weeks in safety mode which is entirely unreasonable.
I have used other providers in the past and my funds were returned within days of the withdrawal request.
Do not use Bunq for deposits.
UPDATE 24 APRIL 2026
After 4 weeks of stress my Bunq account was returned to normal on 23 April and I managed to recover my funds from Bunq on 24 April.
The trigger seems to have been my comment on their Reddit r/bunq weekly support megathread which seems to have elicited a response from a human rather than a pretty useless AI bot which they use as their support desk. You can see the useless AI bot copy/paste response below.
Please be warned any unsuspecting depositors that bunq may hold onto your money for weeks on end.

I have only had my Bunq account for three months and initially signed up as it seems to be very flwxible and pays interest on savings.
The main downside is that I find the app layout confusing compared to other online bank accounts I have used. I would like the home screen to show me a list of my accounts with the current balances, then clicking on an account should take me to recent transactions. As it is, I have to search through the app to find the balance of a particular account. I also had trouble comparing the different levels, I wanted joint accounts, but I could find nowhere in the app that told me I needed a paid account level.
Most definitely, apart from savings interest, the most useful feature has been the 24x7 text chat feature. It maybe AI but it understands my questions, explains things to me in my own language and best of all, resolves issues promptly.
Long may it continue :)

I used to be bunq customer several years ago. I closed my account and removed my app from my phone in early 2025. (really happy to get away from that horrible "bank") I still got a little bit of interest payments from bunq up to February 2025.
I have asked them to provide me with a postal statement of interest for the tax office for 2025 - unlike every other bank I know bunq refuses. Instead I was told to re-install the bunq app, re-identify myself etc etc.
why? They are just greedy bank - I am sure it wont break the bank (sorry for the pun) to simply post me an interest statement for 2025.
I offered that they could email but they won't do that either. How difficult can you make it for your customers???

So far I am very happy with Bunq's services and all the additional options like Crypto, Stocks and also the bonus system. I only have some difficulties when paying bills when I have to give a description or receipt number

I don’t have to deal with paperwork or branch visits, and real-time notifications help me stay on top of cash flows. Sending invoices, tracking expenses, and exporting data all happen with a few taps. Plus, it’s much clearer when you can create multiple IBANs for different budgets and taxes.
"Your response is a standard template that ignores the facts. You claim a 30-day review for 'outstanding payments,' but my case involves personal funds and a verified Western Union refund, with NO pending transactions. Furthermore, the Kifid (mediator) sent you my file on March 19th, and you have ignored them for a month. The DNB (Dutch Central Bank) has already intervened publicly on LinkedIn regarding this case. Stop hiding behind scripts and comply with the regulator's instructions immediately."
