Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 41 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently struggled with unexpected extra charges, frustrating vehicle mechanical issues, and exceptionally long waiting times at the rental desks. Many consumers also reported being left stranded without adequate transport and dealing with unhelpful or outright dismissive personnel. However, some customers also noted that certain staff members provided extremely polite, professional, and welcoming service during vehicle pick-up and drop-off operations. These visitors truly appreciated quick check-in procedures, smooth transitions, and clear guidance regarding vehicle condition and insurance tolerances. A few travelers even experienced exceptionally smooth transactions when returning their vehicles at specific locations.

Dishonest Billing!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Enterprise/Alamo at Levi, Finland (at Kittila Airport). Upon arrival, we had to wait 30 minutes at the rental desk because no one was there, even though they were supposed to be open at 9 AM.

We rented a car for six days, and the agent told us that for the return, we just had to park in the car return area and drop the keys in a mailbox at the airport. On the return day, I saw an employee in the parking lot and handed them the keys directly. I had rented the car on a Sunday at 10:45 AM and returned it on Saturday at 10:25 AM—within the agreed rental period.

That evening, I received an email with an extra charge for an additional day, claiming I had returned the car at 11:45 AM instead of 10:45 AM! Even worse, they stated they would automatically charge my Visa card for this incorrect fee. This was completely false, and I had photo evidence of the time and mileage when I returned the car.

I had to send multiple emails to dispute this fraudulent charge, which wasted my time and energy. It is extremely dishonest of Enterprise/Alamo to operate this way. I do not recommend this company, and I will never rent from them again! Avoid at all costs!

Discrimination treatment at Berlin airport Alamo car rental

I booked a car online with Alamo Car Rental to pick up from Berlin Airport. However, when we arrived to collect the car, there was an issue with my husband’s driving license, and they refused to rent it to him. We accepted their decision without argument.

I then suggested renting the car in my name, as my driving license was valid. Shockingly, they refused, stating, “You are together, and we are not renting it to you.” When I asked if there was any issue with my passport or license, they confirmed there was none but simply said, “We decided not to give the car to you.”

I asked for the policy stating that they could refuse service under these circumstances, but they provided no valid reason. Instead, they repeatedly insisted, “We just don’t want to rent it to you.” Their behavior was dismissive and unprofessional.

This was an incredibly distressing experience, especially as my 79-year-old mother was with us, exhausted and waiting for a solution. We were already dealing with the emotional burden of traveling to attend a cousin’s funeral. Instead of empathy or assistance, we were met with what felt like discriminatory treatment.

Ultimately, we had to seek out another rental company, Europcar, and after a two-hour delay, we were finally able to rent a car. Alamo did not offer any apology or explanation for their refusal.

This experience was deeply disappointing, and I feel compelled to share this complaint. I hope Alamo addresses this issue to prevent others from facing similar treatment.

Avoid Alamo & Normandie Toll Scams

Avoid Alamo & Normandie Toll Scams – A Nightmare for Tourists!
🚨 WARNING for anyone renting a car from Alamo and driving in Normandie, France! 🚨

I recently rented a car from Alamo and used the A13 highway in Normandie, where I encountered the worst toll system in France. Unlike normal toll booths where you can pay by cash or card, this toll is completely remote – meaning you MUST pay online within 48 hours or get hit with insane penalties.

I specifically called Alamo customer service before returning the car, and they gave me false information, telling me I could pay at the end of the rental—which was completely wrong! Now, because of their incompetence, I’m being forced to pay two separate penalties:
1️⃣ A fine from the French toll company for "non-payment" (even though I had no way to pay at the time).
2️⃣ An extra Alamo fee just for passing the charge to me—despite them misleading me in the first place!

💰 Alamo is profiting off their customers' confusion instead of helping them. Their customer service was useless, and they refuse to take any responsibility.

🛑 BEWARE: If you're driving in Normandie, pay your tolls online IMMEDIATELY within 48 hours to avoid this scam. Alamo does not provide a transponder and does nothing to help customers avoid these surprise fees.

I will never rent from Alamo again after this experience. They treat customers like walking wallets, with zero accountability. French and American travelers alike – avoid this trap! 🚨🚗💸

Shocking scam by Alamo / Enterprise

Shocking scam. I booked and prepaid a rental car with my Visa Debit Card on the Alamo France website as I usually did for local Alamo rentals in Toulouse. I arrive at 3 am in Paphos, Cyprus as booked and they refuse to "accept debit cards" and that their policy is to block 1250 Euros for ! But if we pay 50% surcharge of 90 Euro they can reduce the block to 650 Euros !!

I had to wait until dawn to get transport to Paphos and then on to Nicosia 200 kms away. I got a rental from Petsas one of the local family rental car companies with a Visa Debit Card and they only blocked 200 Euro on the Debit Card no problem.

The person at the counter at Alamo Paphos said it's not his problem and I should check with "my broker Alamo France". When I asked if they are the same company and he said no.

They are refusing to refund my money or to apologize.

When I raised a complaint on Alamo France website it redirects me to Enterprise UK, who then redirect me to Enterprise Cyprus. Who stated that they never accept Debit Cards. And then they redirect me back to Alamo to see the conditions which don't mention anything about not accepting Visa Debit Cards.

I am following up with my bank and with Visa to get confirmation on what is our recourse if a Visa merchant doesn't accept Visa Debit Cards but only Visa Credit Cards.

Needless to say this is the last time I use Enterprise, National Rent A Car, Alamo or any of their affiliates since this is their corporate policy in dealing with customers.

Make sure you get in writing from the office where you are planning to get a car of the exact conditions before you book and part with your money.

Mediocre service 🤮

Unprofessional attitude from their staff at the airport of Montpellier. It took me over an hour to get the car. Some of the staff looking at me and saying that they are not in charge. The tank was not fuelled at 100% amd i redlfuelled over the initial level since it’s hard to maje it on purpose. I get the feeling that it is done on purpose. Please avoid them if you can 🤮

Absolute crooks

Absolute crooks ! For a 200 Euros rent, they charged me 1200 euros for a supposed scratch on the rear bumper, it could have simply disappeared with a little car polish. It seems that it is Alamo's modus operandi as I have seen multiple reviews with the same comments. Avoid at all costs, should be banned from this Rental business ! Go elswhere, pay a little bit more and avoid to be robbed !

9 Seater rented from Alamo Toulouse…

9 Seater rented from Alamo Toulouse Airport. Vehicle was inspected upon collection. When returned the first thing the person inspecting the vehicle did was open the door, step in and looked at the roof, pointing to a dent and scratch. It was almost as if she knew it was there. Are Alamo scamming people?
One of the photos I took when vehicle was collected shows the dent (if you zoom in) Now in a dispute with them. I see there is an almost identical review re Alamo dated a week later.

Alamo is scamming customers with damage…

Alamo is scamming customers with damage reports for damage to roof. When receiving the suv you cannot see roof but when returning the staff are showing damage to roof immediately. They are playing a game here. Its all known. Do not use alamo/enterprise until they fix the issue. I was charged 2400 extra euros for something i didn’t do. They now have charges to 5900 for a slight dent behind roof rack that i can’t see without climbing car. I am 6 feet tall so should be able to see this. At no point did attendant inspect roof other than walk by like me. Given car was in bad shape sounds like they are trying to pass off repairs to others

Bad customer service !

We made a vehicle reservation at the Las Vegas Airport agency. The contract number is as follows: 468200869. The car rental was scheduled from 9/8/2024 to 9/7/2024 for a total amount of $2,138.65.

On 9/25/2024, we had to exchange the car, and the Alamo agency at St. George Airport made an error and closed the contract (they didn't realize the mistake and they didn't have an other car for us so they allowed us to leave with our first car...!). I was then issued an invoice for $1,356.62.

We returned to the Alamo Agency in Las Vegas Airport to try to change the car again. The manager noticed the mistake made by the St. George Airport agency and created a new contract (number 468414558 – $725.98 paid on-site). He assured us that we would be refunded the difference between the original price of the first contract and the amount on the invoice at the time of the contract closure error, which would be $782.02.

However, after numerous follow-ups with customer service, we still have not been refunded. We are extremely disappointed with this situation, which is causing us significant inconvenience!

Claimed imaginary damages

I rented a car from Sep 23rd to 27th from Nice to Marseille with Alamo. I had no issue with it. 20 min after giving the car back, I received an email stating that there were damages to the car (scratches to the front bumper) without any evidence (picture/video) or any details (size of the scratches). Alamo claimed 275 euros for it. As i had originally paid a 250 euros caution, they should have charged me just the additional 25 euros but ended up charging me 91 euros (no justification or breakdown).
Since then I've been asking for evidence of the damages and explanation for the additional 91 euros charges, I've been calling all possible phone numbers and sent numerous emails. Customer service laughed at me and refused to help. It feels like I've been scammed (as I guess most tourists won't bother disputing the claims).

Alamo marseille.

Alamo marseille.
Worst rental company. They gave me a car with engine light on and told me that it was okay to drive and that their was no issue. Car broke down on motorway putting my family at risk.
Wasted 1 day to get a new car. They said they would refund me some of the rental days. Never got anything.
To top it up, they try to make me pay for their faulty car as well.
Easy jet should stop having them on their list of rental company

Room for improvement

Regards the Alamo at Bordeaux airport.

The queues went out of the office on arrival so had to wait in the rain for more than 30 minutes. Another staff member would have made a big difference.

Instructions on leaving the car park and for returning to the car park need a big improvement. There is a really, really sharp corner on the way out of the car park that people need to be warned about about before they leave ( some hazard tape and warning signs might also help ). Many hire cars had damage above the rear passenger wheel showing this is a recurring issue. The car we were given had damage to the bodywork at this position.

On the way back into the car park there is a confusing barrier and there was no instructions on the need to be in the left most two lanes.

Stay away from ALAMO

I would like to warn against using this car rental! We booked a car in July 2024, at Marseille Airport. After we signed the contract, the worker told us that we would get a contract on e-mail and stupid us, we left the car rental. The AGREEMENT was NEVER sent to us. While making a payment, we were told that part of the sum is a refundable deposit.

We returned the car after our holiday, at 4am in the morning, so there was to no way to fix it. After our holiday, we were waiting for the return of the deposit. They didn't return it. We complained to the platform Economy Car Rental and finally we got the invoice from ALAMO showing a different sum of money that was agreed at the desk, no copy of agreement was provided, no deposit was mentioned. It's a violation of customer rights.

ZERO STARS

ZERO STARS! AVOID AVOID AVOID!

20km onto our drive the engine warning lights came on and the vehicle went in to limp-mode on a very busy motorway heading out of Marseille airport.
We had to arrange our own breakdown as Alamo refused to do it. It took two hours to turn up after many phone calls back and forth with Alamo.
The breakdown service wouldn't take the vehicle as it was "drivable" in limp-mode. This is the agreement they have with Alamo.
So back onto a very busy 130kmp motorway at 18kmp which is all the vehicle would do.
Managed to get off at the next junction without getting killed. More phone calls to Alamo to get a replacement vehicle, with always a promise they would ring back but they never did. Limped 35km to the hotel trying to use back roads to avoid accidents. Eventually at the hotel another phone call and again a promise of a return call from management. Guess what? The office closed and no call was recieved.
This is the worst company of any kind I've ever dealt with EVER.
LET'S SEE WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS!
Oh, and I had a 95year old in the car with me

UPDATE - No return phone call in the morning and when I rang them again "surprise" they have no record of my phone calls.
I took matters into my own hands and drove (in limp-mode) to the nearest Alamo office. I was then told that there are no cars available and would have to drive back to where I picked it up from. This would have been impossible due to the engine being stuck in limp-mode. After having a very forceful conversation with the staff we were driven to what amounted to a back street garage with empty beer bottles, litter and an old mattress strewn all over the lot.
We were given a much lower spec vehicle which was badly damaged on every panel and bumper, filthy on the inside and out and not fully fuelled up.
No help was proffered to us to try and resolve what was Alamo's issue with a faulty, dangerous vehicle.
No effort was made by Alamo staff to get us a vehicle which worked.

THE WORST COMPANY I'VE EVERY DEALT WITH!

They charged a lot of money for a superficial scratch on the bumper which I genuinely had no idea about, was minimal scratch, so if you want to avoid such fines choose a reputable company

Well Done Alamo at Toulouse Airport

I booked a car for a week from Toulouse Airport (via VIP cars). It was the cheapest which surprised me as they are normally quite expensive.
The young man at the pick up desk was excellent - perfect English spoken and clearly explained all the contract features, damage policy etc. we ended up getting a bigger car which was a bonus.
On returning the car yesterday, the young lady was very quick and thoroughly checked over the car and confirmed that the deposit will be returned.
Having had nightmare scenarios with the likes of Goldcar, it was a very pleasant experience to use Alamo.
PS: the only annoying thing is that it is difficult to find a fuel station near the airport (not Alamo’s fault obviously)

Stay away from Alamo

We ordered a full size SUV, and when we arrived it was not available, and they tried to downgrade us, which we refused, and then got an upgrade instead.
Then the wanted to charge us 4 times the deposited which was stated in our rental agreement, and they also wanted to increase our own liability to the double if what was stated.

I told the man that it was not acceptable, and then he started threatening us that we just couldn't get the car unless we accepted the new terms.
Since I had three kids with me and it was 21 in the evening we were forced to accept.

I would warn people about Alamo

Dishonest and despicable

This is the worst car rental situation I have ever experienced in over 15 years of renting cars in numerous countries. My friend had a booking via CarFlexi. She wanted to pick up the car at Gare du Nord in Paris, however when she went to book it, pop-ups appeared guiding her towards Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport, offering a discount. After making the booking 2 months ago, she went to pick up the car and was out right refused the rental of the car as she did not have a plane ticket! This was not clearly stated in the conditions! Even more shocking was that the employee at Alamo did not even offer to move the pick-up to Gare du Nord.

The car was needed to get me to Toulouse for my wedding. In the end, I ended up having to pay triple the price so over 1,600 euros with another company as we were booking on the day.

This is dishonest and absolutely shocking behaviour. Alamo, you have caused me as a bride complete stress and despair the week of my wedding. Shame on you! Please never use Alamo and Car Flexi, they are both dishonest and totally despicable!
