Alan Jiang a partagé ceciIt's a big moment for micromobility in APAC! After years of friendly competition, Beam and Neuron are joining forces. It's a partnership that feels both natural and deeply aligned, combining two teams who have long shared the same mission: to transform the way people move in cities. Zachary Wang and the Neuron Mobility team have built a truly impressive business, and it's been a privilege to watch their journey unfold alongside ours. From our early days building in the same city, often crossing paths at city hall meetings or in the field, it was clear that we were driven by a similar conviction that micromobility could meaningfully reshape how cities move. Now we're on the same team. Together, we will be operating nearly 100,000 vehicles across 9 countries and enabling over 36 million trips annually. More importantly, we'll be better positioned than ever to partner with cities and shape the next chapter of sustainable urban transport. https://lnkd.in/gY2aRv_sSG’s Neuron Mobility, Beam to merge as APAC e-scooter leaderSG’s Neuron Mobility, Beam to merge as APAC e-scooter leader

Alan Jiang a partagé ceciVery excited for Beam to partner with the City of Darwin after a competitive tender process, and big congrats to the team who has worked incredibly hard to bring Beam to citizens and tourists visiting the capital city of the Northern Territory! Sarah Taylor Khoa Pham Tom Cooper Andrew Dodd Ashan Sanjeeva Michelle L.Alan Jiang a partagé ceciWe're delighted to have won a two-year operational license to operate in Darwin, following a competitive tender process for a new permit led by the City of Darwin. We know that many people in Darwin already rely on e-scooters and e-bikes as a reliable mode of public transport, and we see this as the optimal time for us to be introducing new technology and new vehicle types. For the first time, seated e-scooters will be introduced to Darwin from 1 December, alongside our safety-first e-scooter and e-bike fleet. We will also be introducing AI-powered road surface detection and drink riding deterrence technology. In addition to technology and safety upgrades, we look forward to bringing initiatives such as our Booster program, working alongside local businesses to drive traffic to their doorstep, and our concessions pricing program, to ensure shared micromobility is affordable and accessible for all. Alan Jiang a partagé ceciEvery year 1.35 million deaths occur on roads globally. But in Oslo - multiple years have gone by with 0 traffic fatalities. How did they do it? "By making it more difficult to use a car in the city, officials in Oslo have seen multiple years go by with zero traffic fatalities. The city imposed congestion pricing and other tolls, as well as increased parking fees, to make it more expensive to drive. It reduced speed limits across the city and installed “heart zones” where driving is banned in areas around schools. Helsinki did much of the same, and the city has seen a 75 percent drop in traffic deaths over the last 30 years, as noted by Harvard Kennedy School visiting fellow (and Verge contributor) David Zipper." https://lnkd.in/gzchTE45 #VisionZero #micromobility #CitiesForPeople

Alan Jiang a partagé ceciGreat discussion with Ka Kay Lum on the potential of Micromobility 2.0 in APAC, and how things are playing out differently from the early bike-sharing days!Alan Jiang a partagé ceciRemember that it was only in 2017 that bike-sharing folks like oBike and ofo landed on our shores? And how its bikes were dumped everywhere? They eventually retreated from the international markets they expanded to and decided to focus on their home market China. Singapore's micro-mobility startup Beam wants to bridge that last-mile connectivity gap by offering e-scooter and e-bike sharing services. It recently raised a US$93 mil Series B to help it double down on that ambition. I spoke to Beam's co-founder and CEO Alan Jiang (ex-Uber and ofo) to find out what's different with this second wave of micro-mobility and how the team navigates different rules set by governments and local authorities. https://lnkd.in/g2Ty8H6b

Good time to celebrate a little, as the market is doing my job for me. Thanks to AIMA - The Alternative Investment Management Association having me at Emerging Manager Outreach and China #Quant Spotlight, I gained valuable information and network over two full days. The rooms are full of #entrepreneurs and #founders in traditional Finance, who shared candidly about the journeys of setting up the funds, hiring, operations, IT systems, fund raising, structuring, tax benefits, policies, investing…etc.. I shared/bragged with fellow investors on my top-up trades, and those not investing with me (yet) brought up the AI bubble million dollar question once and again. Assuming many of my connections who interact with me here are not from finance/equities, a few points (definitely not exhaustive): - 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲: In 2000, 12% of the tech sector was loss-making; today, that figure is only 4%, with leaders like Nvidia delivering triple-digit revenue growth - 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐬: Today's AI leaders maintain net profit margins near 28%, compared to Cisco's 17% at its peak, providing a much larger cushion for a potential market correction - 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞: Leading manufacturers SK Hynix and Micron have confirmed that their entire High-Bandwidth Memory production capacity for 2026 is already sold out under non-cancellable contracts - 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩: The bubble argument often rests on a lack of software revenue to justify hardware spend. Been overlooking hedge funds for a while, as picking hedge funds from a private banking shelf didn't seem to demonstrate our unique value proposition as much as other activities, but that should change now. I also love the photo with Olivier Klein Chief Technologists of AWS, and Sunil Gupta the Data Centre Man of India. It is awesome to continue to get first hand information from the speakers, and not only read about them on research papers behind screens. It was especially enjoyable when many other attendees seemed to be introverts from investment banking research or portfolio management backgrounds, so I wasn’t obstructed too much getting to them after their respective sessions. #Macquarie Asia Conference thanks for having me. Alan Jiang a aimé ceciAlan Jiang a aimé ceciWhen the news media covered some stories that make people feel that "justice has been served", such as a guilty verdict in a high-profile criminal case, it could trigger widespread societal psychological shifts. I find public mental health intriguing lately. It analyzes how the masses were impacted by population-level stress, collective trauma, and societal trust. Some I find interesting to put together even though we probably heard of them all already. ⚖️𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘺: People have an inherent psychological need to believe the world is fundamentally orderly, predictable, and fair. ⚖️𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘺: Public trust in authority is driven less by the outcome of a case and more by the perceived fairness, transparency, and dignity of the legal process itself. ⚖️𝘊𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘌𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘺: Large populations can experience shared emotional states that diffuse rapidly through mass media and social networks. ⚖️𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘰𝘳𝘺: Long-term, repetitive exposure to media narratives shapes how individuals perceive reality and assess personal risk. ⚖️𝘝𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘻𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘝𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯: Media consumers can experience secondary trauma from watching others suffer, but they also experience psychological relief when those traumas are structurally validated. Alan Jiang a aimé ceciAlan Jiang a aimé ceci5.5 years @ TikTok and on 8th May '26 - I called it a wrap! Before I tell you what's coming next - Here's to everything that made this journey super exciting! I joined TikTok Shop when the entire team could fit in one room - and not a big room. My onboarding was basically "here's your laptop, figure it out, we launch next month." We launched. And then that thing went from "this might work" to systems that scaled to billions of users. If you've never seen a GMV graph go vertical, it does something to your brain. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻. I came in to write code, and somewhere along the way I ended up in customer calls pretending I was a PM, sitting in marketing meetings pretending I understood branding, filing patents and thinking "wait, I'm an inventor now?", and leading teams where I learned that the hardest part isn't writing the code - it's aligning two smart people who are both right. Then I did something my friends still question. I left all of that and moved to TikTok Wallet. Money platform, another 0-1 problem. Had a chance to work with some of the best people. The engineers who made me smarter every single day. The PMs who rejected all my proposals but somehow became my best friends in the process. You all started as coworkers and became the group chat I check first thing in the morning. You know who you are. 𝗧𝗶𝗸𝗧𝗼𝗸 isn't the easiest place to work. It'll stretch you, test you, and occasionally make you question your life choices at 11 PM on a Sunday. 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁. 𝗦𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘄? I've spent years building things that work at massive scale, shipping products across regions, turning messy problems into systems that just run. The next chapter is about taking everything I've learned and pointing it at the biggest gap I see in technology right now: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 #AI 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀. I'm not going to spoil it, but I will say this - 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴, not the demo, not the ppt, the actually-works-in-production part, you're going to want to follow along. Alan Jiang a aimé ceciAlan Jiang a aimé ceciAfter 11 years, I am turning the page. Carlyle has been the best job I’ve ever had. It taught me what excellence truly looks like: high standards, deep trust, and a long-term view. I had the privilege of working with extraordinary colleagues across New York, D.C., and Hong Kong, helping raise more than $26 billion across 16 strategies, building stakeholder partnerships, and serving LPs who became mentors and lifelong friends. This business is not just about capital; it’s about fostering and building partnerships founded in trust, and that trust accelerates outcomes. So, what’s next? Every so often, an idea comes along that feels undeniable. I’ve found one. I am currently focused on building something new...thoughtfully, deliberately, and for now, in stealth. I am grateful for the journey, the people, and what lies ahead. Onwards. 🚀 #NextChapter

Bridging the gap between capital and execution remains one of the most significant challenges in venture growth today. Traditional venture capital often provides funds but leaves founders to navigate execution alone. Meanwhile, many startups struggle to translate investment into scalable operations and sustainable growth. At Mandalore Partners, we've developed a hybrid model that combines strategic capital deployment with hands-on operational support. This approach ensures that alongside funding, startups receive tailored guidance on strategy, governance, and scaling. For example, in the insurtech sector, startups partnering with us have not only secured the necessary capital but also improved their product-market fit and accelerated customer acquisition through our active involvement. This model acknowledges that capital without execution is an incomplete equation. Real growth emerges when investment is paired with expertise and sustained support. For founders and investors alike, adopting this integrated approach can create greater value and resilience. How has your experience been balancing capital and execution in your ventures? Share your thoughts below. #VentureCapital #VentureCapitalAsAService #VCaaS

Two main observations from my SF trip: 1) founding a company is fame now and 2) founders are getting younger and younger. Silicon Valley is turning into Hollywood and creating its very own Mickey Mouse Club in the process: an industrialised pipeline of teen founders. 1) Silicon Valley is turning into Hollywood: In a market that is as competitive as it has ever been, founders need to differentiate. Using consumer tactics, AI startups reach tens of millions in revenue over the course of months. Builders are becoming famous in the process. Many product launches now include Hollywood-level launch videos. Influential VCs are advising their founders to become Twitter-famous. PR manifestos herald the age of the "going direct”, making communication the founder’s job. 2) Founders are becoming younger and younger. The median age of founders in YC’s most recent batch was 24, down from 31 just a few years ago. This has a few reasons: 1) AI gives young folks superpowers and radically brings down the barriers of building a product. 12-year olds are now vibe coding and use their unfiltered imagination to build apps and games. 2) Second, starting a company is now a desired career path (which is AWESOME). 3) VCs are pushing earlier and earlier to get access to talent and build ownership at digestible prices. They are now scouting talent at the best high schools, maths olympiads and science competitions, often with the goal of convincing gifted teens not to study at university, but to start a venture-backed company instead. 4)Young founders worry that AI erodes the value of their intelligence. They are (half) joking that is the last window to escape the permanent underclass, i.e. the last time to build up wealth before their worth will be eroded by artificial general intelligence. Hollywood first invented a format for the industrialisation of teen talent: the Mickey Mouse Club. The MMC was a children’s TV show that made the career of countless Hollywood legends, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake. However, the mental toll that child stardom took on the stars was immense and famously ended in meltdowns, drug addiction and shaved heads. In the fierce race for returns, the superpowers and pressures that AI is bringing upon us, and an increasing search for fame, we are industrialising entrepreneurial teen talent in the same way Hollywood industrialised teen performers. In the end, Silicon Valley will likely gain new breakout companies. And if entrepreneurship is something that enables teens to do more of what they enjoy, great! The world certainly needs more incredible entrepreneurs. But the venture capital machine is unforgiving. It aims for a narrow set of excellence. It copiously rewards greatness and swiftly moves on from its failures. It will relentlessly and carelessly forget about most of us, so it’s up to us to make our young years worth remembering.
