Abstract
Il existe des machines (imprimantes 3D) au moyen desquelles on peut assembler, par différents procédés, des composants micrométriques formés de divers matériaux. Si toutefois on démonte ces pièces formées de composants massifs, généralement dans le domaine millimétrique, et si on les assemble par des structures régulières de barres et de surfaces planes en structures portantes correspondantes, dans le domaine micrométrique, et qu'on laisse ouvertes celles-ci, on obtient une réduction de poids et une économie de matériau. On peut améliorer et ajuster la stabilité, c'est-à-dire renforcer ou affaiblir dans une direction ou, pour des pièces sollicitées thermiquement, telles que des moteurs à combustion interne, dont la surface est sensiblement augmentée, obtenir également davantage de refroidissement. Au moyen des imprimantes 3D actuellement commercialisées, on peut produire des pièces de boîtier en matériau à microstructure pour des appareils mobiles tels que aspirateurs, téléphones mobiles, ordinateurs, lunettes, coques de malles. Si l'on augmente les dimensions des imprimantes actuellement commercialisées tout en gardant leur précision, on peut produire des carrosseries automobiles et des composants d'aéronefs en matériau à microstructure.
