Abstract
The invention provides a glycolide/ε-caprolactone copolymer which is excellent in strength and flexibility and which can give knots that are tight and little come undone (namely, that are excellent in ligation stability) when used as a suture; a process for the production of the same; and sutures made by using the copolymer. A glycolide/ε-caprolactone copolymer which comprises glycolide units and ε-caprolactone units at a mole ratio of 70:30 to 80:20, characterized in that in 1H-NMR (solvent: 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol), the integrated signal value ratio (B/A) of a signal (B) in a δ range of 4.20 to 4.30 to a signal (A) in a δ range of 4.09 to 4.17 is 1 to 10 and that the copolymer contains a diol having five or fewer carbon atoms in an amount of 0.1 to 0.4% by mole based on the total molar amount of glycolide units and ε-caprolactone units.
