Abstract
A novel electrochemical display device that by convenient member construction, can realize bright white presentation, high-contrast black and white presentation and full-color presentation. The display device is characterized in that an electrolyte is contained between counter electrodes, at least one of the counter electrodes provided with a polymer film containing a metal complex having a ligand of organic compound, and that the polymer film contains at least two kinds of metals and compounds capable of coordination with the at least two kinds of metals, the compounds linked with each other via any of the metals, and that the polymer film exhibits at least two colored states depending upon oxidation or reduction reaction of the metals, and that the ratio of coating with the polymer film based on the surface area of the electrode provided with the polymer film is in the range of 20 to 80%, and that the electrolyte contains silver or a compound containing silver in its chemical structure.
