Abstract

A novel electrochemical display device that is capable of realizing bright white display, high-contrast black and white display and full-color display by convenient member construction; and a method of driving the display device. The display device is characterized in that an electrolyte containing any of compounds of the following general formula (1) is interposed between oppositely arranged electrodes, and that the color condition is varied by driving of the oppositely arranged electrodes.
