  • triethylene glycol diacetate is rejected for taste reasons and triacetin preferred. It is strictly required that the plasticizer used in each case, and consequently the preferred triacetin, exclude water as far as possible. Therefore, the suppliers always state the water content, which should be less than 0.1% by weight. The maximum value of 0.1% by weight of water in the commercial triacetin guarantees its long-term storage without decomposition. Otherwise, hydrolysis creates acetic acid. In addition to the sensory test, the water content test is the only one that is carried out in the tobacco industry when plasticizers are used.
