Abstract
L'invention concerne un procédé de réduction et de fusion d'un composé renfermant un métal, ce procédé consistant à amener un lit de fusion (15) comprenant un mélange du composé renfermant un métal et un agent de réduction approprié se présentant sous une forme particulaire dans un récipient chauffé électriquement (11) contenant un bain (18) de ce métal à l'état liquide de sorte qu'une zone de réaction se forme dans le lit de fusion (15) dans lequel, d'une part, le composé renfermant un métal est réduit, et dans lequel, d'autre part, une zone de fusion (23) se forme au-dessous de la zone de réaction dans laquelle le métal réduit est fondu; et contrôler ce processus de façon à ce que pratiquement toute la réduction de ce composé renfermant un métal ait lieu dans la phase solide. L'invention concerne également un appareil pour la mise en ÷uvre de ce procédé, comprenant un four d'induction (10) de type canal à compartiment unique (11) dans lequel sont effectuées la réduction et la fusion, ce compartiment (11) étant au moins pourvu d'un orifice d'admission (13, 14) du lit de fusion (15); au moins d'un orifice d'évacuation du produit métallique liquide; et au moins d'un orifice d'évacuation de tout laitier se formant au cours de la réaction.
