  • one or more zone of activatable material is activated to shield their eyes from the direct or reflected rays of the sun, but without substantially blocking the field of vision of the driver. This is done continuously and dynamically as the vehicle and the sun change their position relative to one another, so that the shading is always positioned to shield the eyes.

Abstract

L'invention permet de protéger les yeux (12) des occupants d'un véhicule (18) des rayons directs du soleil ou des reflets (14) qui pénètrent à travers le pare-brise (16). Le dispositif est constitué d'une enveloppe normalement transparente (20) accolée au pare-brise (16). L'enveloppe comprend une couche normalement transparente de cristaux liquides activables conçue pour pouvoir adapter de manière sélective ses propriétés de transparence en fonction des signaux transmis par un champ électrique. Un dispositif (42) permettant d'établir la position du soleil transmet des signaux afin de communiquer la position du soleil (14) par rapport au pare-brise (16). En réponse à ces signaux, un champ électrique est appliqué à des points sélectionnés (32) de la couche normalement transparente de cristaux liquides activables afin d'activer et de modifier les propriétés de transparence de ces points. Ainsi, il est possible de protéger de manière sélective les yeux (12) des occupants d'un véhicule (18) des rayons directs du soleil ou de ses reflets.
