UNITED STATES ABNER A. BEVIN, OF EAST DESIGN FOR 8 HAMPTON, CONNECTICUT.
LEIGH-BELLS.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,730, dated February 6, 1877; application filed January 18, 1877. [Term of Patent 7 years.]
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABNER A. BEVIN, of East Hampton, in the county of Middlesex, State of Connecticut, have invented a new and original Design for Sleigh-Bells, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to a new and original design for sleigh-bells, and has for its object to so construct th same as to impart an sesthetic appearance to the bell; and to this end the invention consists in constructing the hell with a curved or semi-cylindrical upper portion, a straight or inclined annular portion, and a cone-shaped lower porlion, as will more fully hereinafter appear, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which--' Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved sleigh-hell, and Fig. 2 a vertical central section of the same.
Referring to the drawings, the letter A represents the sleigh-bell, which is cast in a single piece, with the opening a, collar 0/, and lugs b, by which the bell is attached to the usual strap or other device for holding the same; and B represents the usual clapper or sounder. 0 represents the ordinary vertical slot, and c the circular or other shaped openings or holes. The body of the hell is formed during its manufacture with a curved or semicylindrical upper portion, d; in cross section, an annular straight or inclined central por tion, c, and a cone-shaped lower end, f, in which the usual vertical slot 0 may be made; but, of course, instead of a vertical slot, the body of the bell maybe constructed with a series of circular or other shaped openings.
As thus constructed, a neat and aesthetic appearance is imparted to the bell, and when a series of the same are attached to the de' vice for holding the same, they present a very attractive set of sleigh-bells.
Having thus described my new and original design, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a sleigh-bell, having the curved portion 01, annular straight or flat portion a, and cone-shaped portion f, substantially as described and shown.
