MATCH BOX.
APPLICATION FILED AUG.18. 1909.
Patented Apr. 4, 1911.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT FELDRA, 0F JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR 'IO JULIUS HASSLOGH, VICTOR SWANSON, AND JOHN M. OEST, ALL OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY.
MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 4, 1911.
Application filed August 18, 1909. Serial No. 513,416.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT FELnnA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match- Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates especially to that class of match boxes designed for carrying in the pocket, and has for its object the provision of a combined match box and ash receiver of simple and effective construction.
To attain the desired end my invention consists in certain novel and useful combinations and arrangements of parts, and peculiarities of construction and operation, all of which will be hereinafter first fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a match box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a like view with the movable portion of the box raised up. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 4 is an end elevation, looking from the left of Fig. 3.
Similar numerals of reference, wherever they occur, indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
1 is the main portion of the box, having an end cover 2 hinged at 3. This cover is provided with a cigar tip cutter 4. Hinged at 5 is the match carrying portion of the box arranged to be closed into the part 1 by opening the cover 2, or held upright, as illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4-. of the drawing.
6 is the match compartment and 7 is the holder for ashes, which receives the same when the box is closed, the front 8 of said compartment being open.
When closed, as in Fig. 1. by raising the cover 2, matches may be taken from the box, in the usual manner without moving the part 5 of the box, and in operating the cigar tip cutter the severed portion of the cigar will fall into the compartment 7.
When opened to the position illustrated in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, the device makes a very convenient match safe and ash receiver, as the matches are easily reached and the entire body of part 1 of the box is open for the reception of ashes. In closing the box after being so used, the ashes is shaken to the side of the part 1 opposite to the compartment 7 and when the part 5 is closed, the ashes will be entirely within said compartment 7.
Having now fully described my invention, What I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A match box consisting of a body entirely open at one side and at each end, a second body having a compartment therein open at one end only, and a compartment open at one side and at one end, hinged to the first mentioned body and arranged to close therein, and a cover adapted to fit over the end of both of said bodies, substantially as shown and described.
2. A match box consisting of a body open at one side and at each end, a second body hinged by one of its ends to one end of said body, the second body having a compartment closed except at the end of the body opposite the said hinged end, said second body also having a compartment open at one side which is closed by the said side of the first body when the two bodies are brought together, and a cover member hinged to the first body at its end portion opposite the said hinged portion and adapted to fit over the end of both bodies when closed together.
In testimony whereof I hereto atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT FELDRA.
Witnesses:
ARTHUR M. Pmnon, EVA Honon.
