COMBINED SMOKERS MATCH-BOX AND CIGAR-TIP CUTTER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 642,520, dated January 30, 1900.

Be it known that I, FRANK FONTNEAU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleborough, in the State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Smokers Match-Box and Cigar-Tip Cutter, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a convenient cigar-tip cutter in connection with and sliding between two parallel perforated plates secured to the back of the body of the box, as hereinafter fully set forth.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of a match-box provided with my improvement, the box being shown in its opened condition. Fig. 2 represents the same with the box closed. Fig. 3 represents an edge view. Fig. at represents a top view with the cover raised as in Fig. 1.

Fig. 5 represents a side view of the sliding perforated plate of the cigar-tip cutter.

In the accompanying drawings, A represents the body of the match-box, preferably made in oblong form, as shown in Fig. 4, the

cover B being hinged thereto at the point 0,

a projecting spur d and a spring e being provided, as usual, to properly hold the cover in its opened or closed positions. To the ears f, at the upper rear corner of the cover, is j oint- 3 5 ed the plate 9, providedwith the perforation h, having a beveled cutting edge 1?, and also with the slot j. The rear edge of the bodyA of the box is provided with the parallel plates la it, each provided with a beveled perforation I Z, the perforated plate 9 being arranged to slide between the said plates 70 k, and the said perforations Z Z and it being made to register with each other when the cover B is in its opened condition, as shown in Fig. 1, and out of register therewith, as shown by the dotted circle h in Fig. 2, when the cover is in its closed position. The perforated plate 9 is held between the plates 70 k by means of the pin m,which passes through the slot j. When the cover B of the box is opened to the position shown in Fig. 1 and the tip of a cigar inserted into the registered perforations Z Z h and the cover B forced down to the closed position, as shown in Fig. 2, the tip will be severed from the body of the cigar.

I claim as my invention The combination of the body of the matchbox, with the parallel plates at the back of the box provided with the opposite perforations beveled at their upper edges, the sliding plate pivotally jointed to the cover and held between the said parallel plates and having a perforation beveled at its lower edge, and registering with the perforations of the parallel plates when the cover is in an opened condition, and adapted to cut off the tip of the cigar upon the closing movement of the cover, substantiallyas described.
