cigarette and match boxes.
1n the hitherto known cigarette and match boxes of that kind the closure for the match receptacle has generally comprised a portion of the outer relatively slidable portion of the carton within which the compound cigarette and match receptacle slides, from which it may benoted that if the carton is inadvertently opened in a particular position the matches fall out of their receptacle.
This invention relates more particularly to combination cigarette and match cartons of the general type referred to but of the variety in which the match receptacle is provided with a hinged closure over which the outer portion of the box slides.
In the combination cigarette and match carton made in accordance with the present invention the lid of the match receptacle is acuptcd to remain closed by means independent of the relative position of the slid .ing cover, and in all positionsof the box when opened even should the lid be under the match receptacle.
in carrying out my invention I provide the match carrying member with a lid or closure which has a bent over flap or lip whichfrictionally engages the wall of the match receptacle opposite to the hinge.
in order that the present invention may be better ruiderstood and carried into practice,I append the detailed drawings in which Figures 1 and 3 are perspective views respectively of a cigarette case or carton with a tray for matches. in a closed and open position, constructed according to the prel'crrrd form of my present invention.
As is obvious from the said drawings, the form oi the casing is similar to the conwational drawer case or carton in use at the prcscl'it time. The cigarette receptacle A is provided near one'of its ends with a tray B which forms an inclosure for the matches. The said matches are perfectly isolated from the cigarettes by means of a cover or flap C havinga turned over portion C and the lip E shown in broken lines which on closing the casing overlaps and closes the compartment for the matches. At one or both ends of the drawer a coarse part is formed, D, so that the matches may be easily lighted.
It is obvious that the relative sizes of the cigarette and match compartments may be varied, without departing from the scope of the present invention.
hen the match receptacle is closed the lip G engages and is frictionally held against the inner side wall of the receptacle opposite the hinge and the lip E is pressed down upon the flap C.
I claim:
1. In a combined cigarette and match box, the combination with a tray, of a transverse immovable partition dividing the same into a cigarette and a match compartment, a cover hinged at the outer end of the match compartment and having its edge opposite the hinge bent forming a tongue adapted to frictionally engage the partition within the match compartment and to be held thereagainst, and a slidable outer casing for inclosing the aforesaid parts.
2. In a box of the class described, the combination of a slidable outer casing, a receptacle for cigarettes of greater length than such cigarettes, a supplemental tray for matches fitted within the same between the cigarettes and the end wall of the m meepem tacle for cigarettes, a supplemental tray for matches fixedly secured to said receptacle and Within one end of the same, said match tray having a cover hinged to its outer Wall and'a lip extending upwardly from its inner wall and adapted to be bent and overlap the said tray cover when the sfidable outer 0:1
ing incloses the aforesaid parts.
