IMPROVED vSASH-HOLDER.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent N0. 96,701, dated November 9, 1869.
T0 all whom zt may concern:
Be it known that I, JosnUA HowLAND, of-
Ashland, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to Y the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of awindow provided with my invention; Fig.
2, a similar section of the upper sash.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe fully its construction and operation.
The sides of the sash are provided with vertical grooves7 which terminate near the upper end of the same, and are of sufficient size to admit the spiral springs D D, the lower ends of which rest on brackets d d.
d represents a spring-bolt which passes through an orifice in the side of the sash, and isl provided with a spiral spring, d2, which is held by a plate, E, which latter is pivoted at its upper end and provided with slots e e,
which fit over the bolt (Z and a screw, d, there by holding the spring in the sash. The brackets d are provided with slots, by which they are attached by set-screws, and are adjustable vertically.
The operation of my invention will be readily understood. To lower the sash the bolt d is withdrawn b y means of its projecting end, and the sash depressed until the bolt springs into another orifice and confines the same.
If thespring d2 is broken, another may be inserted by swinging aside the plate E.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The slotted plate E, in combination with the spiral spring d2 and bolt d', substantially as described.
2. The spiral spring D, in combination with the adjustable brackets d, as and for the purpose set forth. l
