STAPLE-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE G. RICHARDS, a citizen of the United States, residing near Bolckow, in the county of Nodaway, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Staple-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to fastening devices and more particularly to the class of staple holders for use in concrete posts or posts constructed of cement or other material.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a staple holder which is adapted to be anchored within a' cement post so that the staple or other fastener may be readily and easily attached without damaging said post for the stringing of fence wire or the like thereon.
Ileretofore where posts of cement are employed considerable difliculty is experienced in attaching staples or other fastening memhere to the post for the reason that the attaching or fastening members are very readily withdrawn and eventually become loose in the post.
Therefore the invention aims as a further object to provide simple means for overcoming this difficulty so that the staples may be readily and easily attached to posts made of cement or other similar material. In gen eral the invention comprises a metal plug of a peculiar construction, which plug may be securely anchored or positioned 1n the mold in which is formed a post or other article composed wholly or partly of cement or other material and when hardened will support or be used in hanging fence wires orthe like.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a staple holder which is simple in construction, thoroughly efficient in operation and inexpensive in the manu facture.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the'accompanying drawings which disclose the preferred form of embodiment of the invention, to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same, and as brought out in the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings :-Figure 1 is a side elevation of a post with the invention applied thereto and being partly in section. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary front elevation. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of one of the plugs removed. Fig. 4: is a sectional view thereof with the staple in position in the same.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawings.
In the drawings, the numeral 5 designates generally a post which comprises a body portion of cement or other plastic composition which is formed while in a plastic state in a suitable mold and then allowed to become hardened. Embedded within the mold at one side face of the same are staple holders 6, which are arranged at suitable intervals apart throughout the length of the posts and these holders are embedded within the composite body of the post while the latter is in a plastic state and being molded.
Each staple holder comprises a cylindrical body 7, preferably formed of metal and provided with a tapered rear end 8, terminating in a fiared circular button terminal 9, which latter serves as an anchor to hold the staple holder firmly within the body of the post when embedded therein.
The opposite outer end of the holder 7, is provided. with an annular flange or rim 10, to form a circular head 11, having a co11- vexed outer face 12, and this flange 10 lies contiguous to the outer surface of one side face of the post when the holder is mounted therein.
Contained in the body of the holder are spaced bores 13 the outer extremities of which open through the convexed face of the head 11 and the inner ends diverge outwardly from each other as at 1 1 and open through the sideof the body 7 at diametrically opposite points thereof, and these bores are adapted to receive the two legs of an ordinary staple 15, which latter when driven in the holder will have its legs spread apart to diverge outwardly with respect to each other correspondingly to the curvatures as at 14: in the bores contained in the holder. It will beobvious thatwhen the staple is secured in this manner it will secure a fence wire 16 to the post.
It is obvious that there will be no possible chance of the staple or its holder becoming loose or accidentally withdrawn from the composite body of the post, thereby effecting a secure support and fastening medium for the fence Wire.
What is claimed is 2- The combination with a fence post formed of plastic material, of frusto-conical shaped plugs embedded in the post at one facethereof, each plug containing rearwardly divergmg bores opening through one end thereof and through opposite sides of the same, an-
nular flanged terminals formed at opposite extremities of the plugs and projecting laterally beyond the sides of the latter, each plug having its outermost flanged terminal protruding beyond the face of the post, and a staple having its legs passed in the bores in the plug, the bores of the plug being of corresponding diameter to the leg portions of the staple.
