INSULATOR,
No. 593,689. Patented Nov: 16,1897.

HNSULATOR.
SIECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 593,689, dated November 16, 1897.
Application filed March 17, 1897.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS F. REMBE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Haverstraw, in the county of Rockland and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insulators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in insulators; and the object of the same is to provide an improved insulator which may be attached in any place where it is desired to support the wire, the same being so constructed that the wire may be readily secured thereto and prevent slipping therefrom.
The invention consists in the novel features of the construction hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view of my insulator, looking at the same from the front thereof. Fig. 2 is a similar view looking at the same from the rear.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 indicates the base, which is rounded at its ends, and raised centrally therefrom is a similarshaped head 2. This head 2 is formed with a spiral groove 3 for receiving the wire 4, and perforated at 5, through which a securingscrew passes, which also passes through the base and serves to attach the insulator to the desired object.
Raised from the base 1 at the endsthereof are the lugs 6, which are formed at their front ends into the hooks 7, which serve to hold the wire and preventthe same from slipping from the grooves in the head. The upper edges of the lugs are inclined rearwardly (No modehl and downwardly toward each other, so that the wire may readily be inserted between the lugs and the head to wind the same upon the head. One of the lugs is formed with the projection 8 adjacent its hooked end, so that the wire rests thereon and is prevented from becoming displaced from the spiral groove.
It will be understood that the hooks prevent the wire from slipping from the groove should the insulator be placed in an inverted position.
From the above description it will be seen that I have produced a very efficient insulator, which is capable of being readily attached in any desired position, and which securely and positively holds the wire which is attached thereto.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
An insulator comprising a base having its ends rounded, a head raised from the center of the base, said head being formed with a spiral groove, lugs raised from the base on opposite sides of the head and formed of the same contour as the head, said lugs having their upper edges inclined rearwardly and downwardly, hooks formed in the lugs, a projection raised from the base adjacent the hook of one of the lugs, and means for attaching the insulator to a support, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LOUIS r. REMBE.
