This invention has for its object to provide a smoking pipe which will be free from clogging either by the lodgment of tobacco in the draft opening or by the accumulation of nicotin or other liquids in the draft passage, and thereby assure'a free draft at all times. Y

In these drawings 10 representsa pipe bowl which has a shouldered tubular bushing 11 tightly fitting in its bottom and flared at its upper end to keep it in place, the flared portion conforming with the cavity of the bowl and constituting the draft opening thereof. Thisbushing receives with a tight working fit a removable plug 12, which preferably has a knurled head on its lower end by which it may be easily turned and which is desirably threaded in the tubular sleeve for a short distance above the head to keep it in place. The upper end of the removable plug 12 is reduced and then slighty enlarged and rounded toform a bulbous tip 13 partially closing the draft opening and causing it to assume an annular form. of the bushing and upwardly in the. bowl member to communicate with a condensation well 15 at some distance from its bottom. The condensation well is inclined and at its upper end forms a stem socket to re-. ceive the lower end of a stem member 16,

while at its lower end it is tapered and-communicates with a discharge opening 17 in the bushing 11 which is normally closed by the stem portion of the removable plug 12 but which is freely accessible for cleaning purposes when the plug is removed.

The mouthfi piece 16 has threaded in its lower end a tubular nipple 18 which. extends some distance above and below its threaded- 'connection to project into'the enlarged con- 'densation portion of the mouth piece and into the condensation well 15 respectively, the former projection being designed to carry the draft passage above condensation liquid which may form in the mouth piece to prevent the liquid interfering with the draft, and the latter projection serving as a flattened thumb hold 19 by means of which the nipple may be easily turned. An opening 20 is ormed in the lower end of the mouth piece to drain liquids therefrom into the condensation well 15. With the construction there is no danger of fla es of tobacco becoming lodged in. a small draft opening, as with smoking pipes of the usual construction, for the draft opening formed between the bulbous tip 13 of the plug 12 and the flaring walls of the tubular bushing 11 is of an annular form' and thelodgnient 10f one or more flakes of tobacco therein would 'notinterfere with the draft as it -would be practically impossible I for this annular opening to be entirely closed in such a manner. Any obstructions which might become lodged in the draft opening may be freely removed on removing the plug 12.

Besides a free draft being assured by the formation of the draft opening of the bowl, the interference by liquids'of condensation or saliva is effectively prevented by the provision for collecting them in the lower end of the condensation well below the communication of the draft passage :14 therewith, also by theformation of the nipple 18 e of this invention is .thenipple 1-8.

The advantages of a free draft at-all times and'accessibilityfor cleaning are provided by this invention withoutdetracting from the appearance of the pipe, the head of the removable plug 12 only being noticeable and that being adapted to'have an orna-J mental appearance. 7

What I claim as my invention is:

l. A smoking pipe, comprising a bowl. having a draft passage, a tubular bushing fitting in the bottom thereof with a flaring end forming the draft opening for the bowl, a removable plug fitting in the'bushing and having a rounded end standing in the draft opening to render said draft opening annular in form, the'draft passage of the bowl member communicating with the interior of the bushing beneath the draft opening.

2. A smoking pipe, comprising a bowl member having a bowl with an opening in the bottom thereof extending entirely through the bowl member and a condensation well having a double connection with said opening at points one above the other, the lower connection being at the lowermost portion of the condensation well, a plug fitting in said opening closing communication between the lower connection with the condensation well and said opening and aving a head on its end smaller than the opening leaving an annular draft opening in the said opening between the upper connection with the condensation well and the bowl, and a stem fitting in the condensation well.

5. A smoking pipe, comprising a bowl member having a condensation well therein communicating at a distance above its bottom with the draft-passage'leading from;

the bowl, a stem member fitting in the C0111 densation well and having a condensation chamber, a removable tubular nipple threaded'in the lower end of the stem member and project-inginto the condensation chamber thereof, therebeing an opening inthe' stern member leading from the condensation chamber to the condensation well of' thebowl member.
