Description
EDITH MONTGOMERY, OF SYRACUSE, NEBRASKA.
CLOTI-IE S-I-IANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 1908.
Application filed. December 20, 1907. Serial No. 407,336.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDITH MONTGOMERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Otoe and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a clothes hanger designed especially for use in small closets and spaces under stairways etc.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings in which I have shown a perspective view of the invention.
In constructing my clothes hanger I employ a piece of wire which is twisted upon itself to form a centrally supporting standard A to the upper end of which is connected a ring B. At the lower end of the standard A the wire of which it is composed is bent in opposite direction and also twisted upon itself to form supports C each of which are angled at their ends to form hooks C The wire is then carried outwardly and in opposite directions and twisted upon itself to form two supporting arms D arranged at right angles to the arm C and also bent therein to form supporting hooks D By means of this construction the standard A and the arms C and D are all formed of the one piece of wire bent upon itself. To the ring B is secured a second piece of wire which is bent upon itself and twisted to form a supplemental standard E and at its upper end this wire is bent to form eyes E which are arranged opposite each other and are slightly inclined out of a horizontal plane in order that screws may be passed through them more readily in order to secure the device to'a ceiling. By
dividing the supporting depending standard into two sections A and E and connecting them by the ring B supporting arms may be more readily rotated so as to bring any of the said arms within easy reach. The ring B also practically forms a hinge which when the device is not in use permits the standards A and E to be folded over upon each other thus reducing their combined length and saving room in shipping, packing and storing the device.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the kind described comprising a sectional standard each of said sections being formed of a single piece of wire twisted upon itself, the lower section having radially extending arms carried by its lower end, said arms terminating in hook members and being each integral with the standard, the up per section terminating in oppositely arranged eyes, and a hinged connection between the two sections.
2. A device of the kind described consisting of a standard formed of a single piece of wire bent upon itself and twisted, said wire at the lower end of the standard being extended radially and twisted upon itself to form four supporting arms, each of said arms terminating in a hook member, a supplemental section formed of a single piece of wire twisted upon itself and terminating at its upper .end in two eyes, said eyes being inclined out of a horizontal plane, and a ring connecting the two sections.
EDITH MONTGOMERY.
