ANDREW WEISZ, OF COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO.
CIGARETTE-PIPE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 2, 1908.
Application filed July 16, 1907. Serial No. 383,981.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW WEISZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado S rings, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
The resent invention relates to certain new an useful improvements in smoking apliances and more particularly to a novel form of pipe which may be termed a cigarette pipe since the tobacco being smoked is held in a long roll.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive pipe of this character which is so constructed as to enable the various parts to be readily taken apart and cleaned and thereby prevented from becoming saturated with nicotin.
For a full descriptionof the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawin s, in which:
Figure 1 is a side e evation of a pipe em- Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the tubular casing.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to'in the followin description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
-- tudinal sections w 1ich are oosely connected Specifically describing the invention the numeral 1 designates the stem which is provided with the usual longitudinally extending opening 2 and has the mouthiece 3 at one of its extremities. The opposlte end of the stem is enlarged as indicated at 4 and is designed to engage an end of the tubular casing 5'wl1ich is arranged in alinement with the stem land is designed to receive the tobacco or other material being smoked within the pipe. It will also be observed that the inner end of the tubular casing 5 carries an annular rib 6 which is designed to be engaged by a pair of spring. catches7 upon the stem 1, the
tubular casing being thereby securely locked against accidental dis laeement. This tubular casing 5 is also re erabl formed in longiedge thereo along one pair of adjacent edges by any suitable means such as the hinge joint 8 while the opposite edges are designed to be locked together by a sprin catch ,such as that indicated at 9. It wil thus be apparent that the tubular casing can be readily detached from the stem and the two sections thereof opened so as to ex ose the interior of the casing for any desire purpose.
The outer end of the casing 5 is shown as closed by a erforated disk 10 which has one f hinged to the casing at 11 while the opposite edge carries a fingeriece 12 for manipulating the perforated dis In the operation of the pipe the tobacco is placed within the casing 5 and lighted in the usual manner, the smoke being drawn through the passa e 2 in the stem and the air entering the pipe through the perforated disk 10.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a pipe of the character described, the combination of a tubular casing formed in hinged longitudinal sections, a stem applied to one end of the tubular casing and dis osed in alinement therewith, and a erforate disk hinged to the o posite end of t e tubular casing and adapte to be swung over the same;
2 In a pipe, the combination of a stern, a tubular casingdetachably connected to the stem and formed in two hinged longitudinal sections, and aclosure for the end of the tubular casing, the said closure. being pivoted upon the pintle of the said hinged longitudinal sections of the casin 3. In a pipe, the com ination of a stem, a. tubular casing detachably connected to the stem and provided with a rib, and catches upon the stem designed toengage the rib.
4. In a pipe, the combination of a stem, a tubular casin formed in hin ed lon itudinal sections and etachably applied to t e stem, catches carried b the stem for engaging the casing, and a per orated disk closing the said casing.
.In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW WEISZ. a. 8.1
