To @ZZ 007mm, t may concern Be it known that l, STEPHEN H. SIMsAn- MN, a citizen ot the United States, residing iu the town et lVest Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Cigar-Tip Cutters, ot which the following is a specilication.
My invention relates to a class ot new and useful improvements in cigar tip cutters specially' designed as personal ornaments or watch charms whereby the mechanism, when not in use, is completely concealed and the purpose ot the article unapparent.
rflic objects of my improvements are attained b v the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing` in which- Figure l is a side elevation oi the casing, housing the mechanism. Fig. 2 is a crosssection iatwise oi: the casing having the mechanism in position with one orn the spring-retaining-tongues removed. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the narrow side ot the casing with the spring-retainingtongues in position, which prevent complete withdrawal of the mechanism therefrom by their action against the involuted margin ot' the casing. Fig. il is a side view or" one ot the scissor-blades removed.
A represents a hollow shell or casing have ing two annular internal communicating compartments ot varying size through the larger of which a segmental opening with involuted margins T is provided tor entry and withdrawal ot the blades. The smaller compartment serves to house the mechanism, when closed or not in use, and has integral therewith the ring 8 for attachment to a watch chain or any other suitable suspension.
The interchangeable blades l and 2, Figs. 2 and 4, are pivotally connected atter the fashion ot scissors, having beveled semicircular cutting faces 7o b conveniently placed between the ringer tips a a and their pivotal connection or tulcrum at 5, so that when the blades are withdrawn trom the casing and extended by the U-shaped band spring 4, Fig. Q, secured in slot 6 on the outer sides thereof, as shown, an opening is provided, through which a cigar tip is entered and snipped ott by compression ot the blades.
As referred to, the opening in the casing A, Figs. 2 and 3, through which the scissorblades are withdrawn has an involuted margin a, forming a rod-like ridge, against which two spring-retaining- tongues 3, 3, with everted free ends being attached on each side oi' the lblades at the pivot 5, strike and prevent complete withdrawal ot' the mechanism Jfrom the casing; or when entered therein, stabilize the pivotal end ot said blades, thus avoiding lateral motion, since the mechanism herein described is otherwise loosely housed within the casing, where it is retained by the action ot the U-shaped spring d in passing the constricted portion thereof.
The scissor blades l and 2, Fig. Q, are provided with finger tips a a, by which they are manipulated, either in withdrawal trom the casing or in shipping the cigar tip, as stated; and are so designed that, when the blades are entered, the opening in the casing A is completely concealed from view.
Having thus described the operation and mechanism of my invention, l claiml. A cigar tip cutter, comprising a hollow irregular casing, having an opening therein vith involuted margins, a pair of scissor blades with beveled semi-circular cutting faces, superimposed upon each other, pivoted together andl slidably mounted in the casing, finger tips iirmly attached to manipulate the blades, a U-shaped band spring secured to and operably connected with each of the blades, said spring being adapted to pass through and abut upon either sido of the constriction in the casing and two spring retaining tongues laterally attached at the pivot of the blades and having their tree ends everted against the sides ot the casing to stabilize the blades.
2. A cigar tip cutter having a pair ot scissor-blades with beveled cutting faces, pivoted together and slidably mounted in a casing ot two annular communicating compartments of varying size, a U-shaped eX- panding band spring attached outwardly to the blades between their pivotal connection and the linger tips and two spring retaining tongues with everted tree ends secured on opposite sides ot the blades, all entered and housed in said casing.
3. rPhe combination in cigar tip cutters having a casing, an opening in the casing with involuted margins, a. pair oi' cigar tip cutting blades pivoted together and slidably mounted in the casing, finger tips firmly attached to the blades, an expanding band spring holding the blades in open position etV Signed :it Test Hoboken. in the County of i-lldson und State of New Jersey this tenth 19 day of March, A. D. 1913.

und housed Within said easing by Coueton against the constriction thereof and springretaning tongues, secured on opposite sides of said blades, With their everted free ends engaging the involuted margins of the opening of the Casing to prevent complete Withdrawn] of the blades n operation from sind casing.
