Abstract
A cigar cutter mainly formed by a bottom sheet, a left blade, a right blade and an upper sheet. The four sheets are locked by a stud, while the left and right blade are movable with respective to the bottom sheet. The centers of these sheets have holes which are aligned. When a cigar passes through the hole, the two blades can move inwards to cut the cigar. A skilled design mechanism is formed in the four sheets so that as the two blades can be received within the two blades in a storage state. When it is desired to insert a cigar into the holes of the sheets, the two blades can be compressed inwards, and than the blades will resilient outwards by resilient forces of springs.
Description
- The present invention relates to cigar cutters, and in particular to a cigar cutter which has two blades at two sides. The blades can move inwards to a fixed position and to cut a cigar and moreover, the two blades is movable outwards by an easy operation with slightly force applied thereto so that a cigar can be inserted into a hole in the cigar cutter for being cut.
- Many cigar cutters exist in which one or two blades push through a cigar. Such cutters can be appropriately called guillotine or double-guillotine cutters. These types of cutters suffer from the deficiency that they can crush, squash, or otherwise deform the cigar as they cut it. They can also tear the wrapper leaf or the endcap of the cigar as the blades are forced through the cigar.
- In one prior art a cigar cutter, the cigar cuter comprises a frame with a slot and a hole therethrough, said frame having two sides which are parallel to each other, said frame being teardrop shaped, which slot has a rectangular cross section, and which hole is perpendicular to the slot and is sized to accommodate a cigar tip; and two blades, each blade with a hinge end and a cutter end, said cutter end having two edges, the first of which said edges is sharp and the second of which is dull, said blades hingeably coupled with each other and said frame and operably mounted so that said blades slide through the slot in said frame and effectuate movement of first edges of said cutter ends of said blades across each other scissors-like, said blades crossing at the hole in said frame.
- Furthermore, in another type of cigar cutter exists in which a part of the cigar cutter can be pivotally displaced with respect to another part of the cigar cutter. In the course of this pivoting movement, the cutter's blades are subjected to a rotational movement corresponding to the pivoting movement and concurrently to a translational movement, thus progressively effecting the cutting of the cigar. In the alternative, the cigar cutter includes a lever that is turnable. By pivoting the lever, the cutter's blades are moved circularly in a hypocycloidal path. Both embodiments produce a peripheral cutting action at the same time that the blades penetrate into the cigar.
- In view of the art, a need exists for a cigar cutter in which the application of a squeezing force causes the cutter's blades to cut a cigar in a manner intended to avoid substantial deformation and tearing of the cigar.
- Accordingly, the primary object of the present invention is to provide a cigar cutter, which has two blades at two sides. The blades can move inwards to a fixed position and to cut a cigar and moreover, the two blades is movable outwards by an easy operation with slightly force applied thereto so that a cigar can be inserted into a hole in the cigar cutter for being cut.
- To achieve above objects, the present invention provides a cigar cutter mainly formed by a bottom sheet, a left blade, a right blade and an upper sheet.

The second spring 900 is installed between a left edge of the throughhole 701 of thepad sheet 700 and a right edge of the rightelastic sheet 803 so as to retain the rightelastic sheet 803 to the pad sheet. A perspective view of the assembled cigar cutter according to the first embodiment of the present invention is illustrated inFIG. 8 . - Operation of this embodiment will be described herein. Referring to
FIGS. 9 , 10, 11 and 12, as theleft blade 300 andright blade 400 move inwards to be within a space formed between thebottom sheet 10 and theupper sheet 20; to an extreme position, the protrusion of the leftelastic sheet 801 will buckle the recessednotch 407 at the lower edge of theleft blade 400 so as to retain the leftelastic sheet 801 in position. The leftelastic sheet 400 will retain the rightelastic sheet 500 in position. As illustrated inFIG. 4 , the cigar cutter of the present invention is formed as an oblong shape. At this moment, the restorespring 600 and the second spring 900 are at a compressed state. The halfround cutting edge 404 of theright blade 400 and the halfround cutting edge 504 of theleft blade 500 will overlap to seal the round hole 201 101 of thebottom sheet 100 or theupper sheet 200 so as to cut a cigar (not shown) passing through the round holes. When a further compressing force is applied to theleft blade 300 and theright blade 500, the two blades are compressed further, while thespring 500 will suffer from a greater compressing force. When the compressed force applied to the two 300, 500 is released, the restoreblades spring 600 will apply a resilient force to the two 300, 500 to make the twoblades 300, 500 move outwards. Since leftblades elastic sheet 801 is made of soft material, the protrusion of the leftelastic sheet 801 will unbuckle from the recessednotch 407 at the lower edge of theleft blade 400. Thereby, the cigar cutter is at a releasing state as illustrated inFIG. 11 andFIG. 12 . The operation is very easy and only a slight force is needed for unbuckling operation due to the installation of the spring. - The present invention is thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the present invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the following claims.
