Be it known that I, ALFRED SoHroKER- LING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Cutters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in cigar cutters, and more particularly to that kind or style thereof which may be carried in the pocket, or suspended as a charm from a watch chain, the object being to provide an article of this kind which while simple and economical to construct, will be el'licient in use.

lVith these and other ends in view, the in vention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my improved cutter. Fig. 2 is a similar view thereof partly closed. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing the cutter entirely closed. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a detached view in elevationof one of the sections.

By reference to the drawings, it will be seen that my improved cigar cutter consists of four blades, each having the same outline or contour as the other, the adjacent edges of the assembled sections being sharpened to form cutting edges, the four sections being so pivoted or hinged to each other that the edges willl effect a shearing cut. As these sections are of the same shape, a description of one will suflice for all.

The upper or outer edge a of each of the sections A, is preferably curved, so that when said sections are assembled, as illustrated in Fig. 1, the cutter will be circular in shape. The sides b of the section A converge toward the center, the inner cutting edge 0 having its central portion also curved or recessed and sharpened to form a cutting edge, the curvature of the cutting edges of the several sections when properly assembled, producing a circular hole or opening f in the central portion of the device.

One of the converging sides I) of each section, is extended outwardly to form an attaching ear (1, whereby to overlap the adj a cent section and be properly pivoted thereto.

The four cutting sections A are pivoted near their outer curved edges one to the other by means of the pins e, so that when any two of the sections are by a slight pressure forced toward each other, the cutting edges of all four sections will come together, as illustrated in Fig. 3, completely closing the opening f between the sections and causing the cutting edges to effect a shearing cut on the end of the cigar previously placed in said opening f.

It will be understood from the foregoing that the article is very economical to construct, in that the sections are provided with. the same outline or contour, and can therefore be rapidly stamped out by means'of a die, and readily and easily assembled.

If desired, one of the sections may be provided with a ring 9 whereby the article may be suspended as a charm from a watch chain.

It will be understood, of course, that the article may be formed of any desired metal and ornamented in any pleasing way.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A cigar cutter consisting of four sections, each of which has a curved outer edge, each section having a sharpened inner edge, each of said inner edges having a central curved portion and straight end portions, the end portions of one section being adapted to contact with the end portion of the opposite section when the device is manipulated, the sides of each of said sections converging toward the center and one of said sides being extended outwardly forming an attaching ear, the latter overlapping the adjacent sections and pivoted thereto, substantially as described.
