CIGAR AND L JIGARETTE ASH RETAINER.
Application filed July 6,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARs'rnN H. KATTEN- nnno, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar and Cigarette Ash Retainers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a smoking tube and has reference more particularly to a socalled cigar and cigarette ash retainer.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a simple and practical device in which cigars, cigarettes and even loose tobacco may be confined for smoking purposes and particularly one which will retain the burnt ashes and thus overcome the inconvenience caused when the ashes are permitted to be scattered around the room or blown in the face of a person while riding in a motor or the like Vehicle.
A further object of the invention is to so construct the invention that the device may be inexpensively manufactured and sold to thetrade as a novel and desirable article.
In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 isa side elevation; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is an end'view; and Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are cross sections on the lines 4+4, 5-5 and 6-6 respectively of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, I propose to provide a tube within a tube with the outer tube 1 constructed in sections 2, 3. and 4, the section 2 constituting an end closure having perforations 5 and-threaded as at 6 to the section 3. The section .3 constituting the main part of the outer tube andthreaded as at 7 to the section 4 which The various sections of the outer tube may be produced 7 from any suitable material and the same maybe of any desired size. Arranged within the outertube is the inner tube '1, which is Specification of Letters Patent.

of .a smaller diameter than the outer tube and having a series of lugs 8 and an annua lar ring 9 around its circumference to space in the outer tube by the end closure 2. The
same also has a perforated closed end 11 and an open opposite end the peripheryof which v bears against the end closure.
The perforations in the closed end 11 establish a communication through the tube and the bore 12 of the mouth piece 4 so that a draft may be produced through the cigar, cigarette, or loose tobacco carried in the device. While some of the perforati0ns5 communicate with the cooling chamber 10 to produce the proper cooling effect the annular ring 9 and the shoulder 13 on the end 11' bearing against the shoulder 14 on the inside of the mouthpiece will go to make up a tight joint at this point. The tube 1 may be produced from any suitable heat resisting material.
I claim:
A device of the character described in-
